Few things about the legal news today:

Mueller thought they lost the manafort trial imo. That's why they hustled to get the Cohen plea ready.

The manafort case has nothing to do with trump. That was never the point though. The goal was to get leverage so they could try to get manafort to say whatever they need him to say. We know Mueller doesn't care if any of it is true or not. Just needs it stated

That's the full court press they're putting on right this very moment. At the same time, Trump's team is likely considering a pardon, that removes all such leverage.

Cohen is and was nothing. The best he can do is some obscure meaningless campaign finance law, and that's on their best day. The importance there is this gives Dems hope of impeachment should they get their blue wave. And it gives them their campaign slogan nationwide for midterms.

Bottom line none of it really means anything for this president, IF we were dealing with an objective investigation. We know the opposite is true. It's nothing more than a coup in broad daylight, and these two developments ensure it's not going away anytime soon.
a pardon is probably the dumbest thing Trump could do. Eats up all his political capital and still guarantees Manafort & Cohen prison time. if you plead guilty for defrauding the IRS good luck defending yourself against state tax fraud which cannot be pardoned.

By the way, in the case of Cohen, they have to prove he did it specifically to influence the election to be an FEC violation. That means they have to prove that Cohen nor Trump would have never made the payment if it weren't for the election. That's a tough sell.

Porn star threatening to come forward and out you to the world? Election or not, 99% of the people with the means makes the payment to keep her quiet.

I didn't say pardon Cohen.

Pardoning manafort would be smart as it takes all Mueller leverage away. If a state prosecutor wants to run with it (when they haven't up till now) then even if they win the penalties won't be as much.

Plus Trump's pattern of handling these threats in this manner work for him.

OH boy. CNN really thinks they got him now. Realistically, what would be the normal penalty for a campaign finance violation? Probably just a fine, right? CNN is acting like this is a huge development that could take him down.

I don't think Mueller has leverage with Manafort. Manafort just spent millions defending himself in federal court, where there's a 95% conviction rate, facing 18 counts. He knew deep down inside that he was never beating all 18. If he had information to give up, he would have done so already.

Yes. It's a $130K violation. Obama's campaign committed a $1.8M violation. It was fined $350K.

If he thought he couldn't win, he'd never spent that money. Would've just made an open plea.

Plus my guess is trump assured him of a pardon if he lost.

Just to be clear, Cohen is also charged with tax evasion on top of campaign finance violation. The majority of the jail time he's facing is for the tax evasion, not the campaign finance violation.

If he honestly thought he could win, then he's the dumbest person ever, especially after the judge banned any and all mention of the DOJ previously denying to prosecute the case. That was his main defense.

state tax fraud is 20 years. that is life for manafort.

Our co-conspirator in chief boys, drain that swamp!
It's an FEC violation. Not to mention, it's yet to be proven. You hate due process, don't you? They now have to prove that the only reason Cohen paid Stormy off was because of the election.Which there's a history of Trump paying women off when there wasn't an election. That's going to be tough to prove. And if they do prove it, the Trump campaign gets hit with a fine. Don't cream your pants just yet.

Trump supporters are the Louisville fans before they turned on Rick. Impenetrable echo chamber.

Looks like the only thing posters here want is somehow some way criminals get off. Why am I not surprised?

From what I know, it was a weak case. Have to try. I've seen worse cases go to trial. I've tried numerous ones with facts way worse than this.

Federal court is tough. There's a reason the feds are successful and it's not just because they're good

Just because they won't report this to you guys on CNN. The jail time Cohen is facing is mostly for tax evasion. Campaign finance is small potatoes.

It was a $130K payment to Stormy, so a $130K violation. For comparison sake, the Obama campaign committed a $1.8M violation. The punishment? A $375K fine.

East thinks this is an echo chamber and Levi isn't surprised because you both are ignorant of the facts.

Obama 2008 campaign fined $375,000

President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign was fined $375,000 by the Federal Election Commission for campaign reporting violations — one of the largest fees ever levied against a presidential campaign, POLITICO has learned.

The major sticking point for the FEC appeared to be a series of missing 1,300 contributions totaling more than $1.8 million.

Looks like all the libtards are coming out of their rat holes to celebrate the Manafort and Cohen verdicts. Don't see any of them commenting on the murder by an illegal immigrant though. Hmmmmm.

No one wants criminals to “get off”. What we want is equal justice under the law where a political party isn’t tipping the scale.

This isn’t about convicting Trump, or Justice. It’s about damaging a President, and preventing the next outsider from running.

The Presidents lawyer was raided! That doesn’t cause you concern in the least bit?
Probably not, since you don’t care that the Govt leaked personal info and names of people caught in surveillance, or leaked classified info, surveilled an incoming President, or lied to get FISA warrants, or lied under oath.
