Dealt with the French a lot as well with one Belgian unit I worked with and traveled to France spending a week on the French Riviera. Expensive as hell but beautiful. They too are arrogant (the worst I think). I lived in a Brit housing area and bought a lot of my groceries at the NAFI which is a brit PX/Commissary. Most of our television/radio programming was BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Service). Worked with the Scots too (brits by association they say) but they were much better towards us.

Same sht different day for Ukraine. Since 1991 the home of the least trustworthy, oligarch-run govt outside of Russia. Make a deal, launder the money, reneg. Use one side against another, wear them down, make a deal, launder the money, reneg. Kiev loses all bargaining power if we as a govt RECOGNIZE the 4 states/regions declaring INDEPENDENCE in exchange for resources.

Screw the extreme western part of the country. Let the oligarchs have it and its bankrupt govt.

If the eastern regions become independent, Kiev can't use them as bait/pawns/hostages to leverage more money.
