It is not true that "most" of the native Spanish speakers in this country are here illegally. That is a gross exaggeration.
As for assimilation, it is unclear to me whether Spanish speakers have assimilated to the extent that the Italian, German, etc. people did (or did no do) 100 plus years ago. Obviously I was not around then. I do live in South Florida, though, and have a good handle on native Spanish speakers in Miami-Dade County, which are something like 70% of the population. Sometimes in Miami it is hard to find someone in a store or business that speaks English. The kids and grandkids of the original Cuban exilees are fully assimilated (and run the city of Miami and Miami-Dade County), but even then they sometimes prefer to speak Spanish in social situations. It may be that Spanish speakers are less inclined to "assimilate" than the European immigrants of many years ago.

There are many cultures here. One is most dominant. That doesn't mean if you're part of/identify with a smaller one that you're not assimilated. We wouldn't have media in multiple languages if those languages weren't part of the overall culture.

It's fine if you want to speak Spanish. But you need to know basic English as well. It's as much for those that immigrate here as it is for anyone else. I've had two careers where I've seen the direct affects of people who can't speak English. I was in law enforcement for 5 years. I dealt with people many times as a cop who couldn't speak English. It's extremely dangerous for both them and the police officer when they can't understand one another on a basic level. My second career has been in IT. I now work for a large school district and I see everyday the struggle that teachers have dealing with students who can't speak English. All of their time is spent attempting to communicate the most basic concepts and they have little time to actually teach. Not sure what you have done in your life, but anyone with real world life experience understands that communication amongst people is the most important thing for a society. It sounds all warm and fuzzy to say, "Oh yes we let people speak whatever language they choose because we are so wonderful." In practice it's a BS philosophy and does no one any good. Again, people can speak to each in any language they choose, but if you want to live here as a permanent resident, knowing English should absolutely be a requirement. And it should be our national language. The fact that it isn't is a huge problem.

I've been trying to find the answer to how much spending was reduced by cutting the year-end spending package from 1500+ pages to 118 pages. Many here where giddy over that change. Surely it saved money. Why else were they giddy? Anyone?
Today I learned from Chip Roy thru the WSJ that the 118 pages of spending was the same as the original 1500+ pages of spending that Musk & Vivek were up in arms over. Apparently that's quite the victory for MAGA. For Congressman Roy & me, not so much. At least it saves some paper.

Show me where 20% of Americans prefer to speak spanish when only 19% are hispanic or as the charts say other. That could include many other ethnicities.
By the way, unofficially there is an American language as I speak it and so do most intelligent Americans.

False. We have media in other languages because of left wing and some supposed 'independents" agenda of changing our culture. There should be no need for it, speak American or get out.
Well, since most Americans speak English by far, it makes sense that most intelligent ones do.

Throw people out because they don't speak American? That's ridiculous. What percentage of people who've ever immigrated to this country spoke English when the did? Outside those from British Isles, I'd say very few did. Of course we forcibly assimilated slaves. And many countries have multiple languages.
