I get what you are saying but I am not that far left that California suits me at all. I just miss the Ky I have spent my whole life in. It used to feel like home.
It used to be a right leaning moderate state. It was historical more Dem than Pub, but they were moderate Dems. They weren't passing crazy left wing laws left and right.
We'd vote in some Dem governors.... We'd vote in some Pub. It was a pretty moderate political climate overall with no one party passing apeshit culture war laws. Individual groups of Kentuckians like union workers, teachers, trans and gays weren't the target of BS political laws. Do we really need trans laws for the 50 or so trans kids in the entire damn state?? Really??? That's the pressing need in Ky today???
It is never good when there is a monopoly on state power but that's where we are.
I just don't even recognize my state anymore and miss it.

Two of the past four KY governors were Republican, both one termers, prior to Ernie Fletcher we didn't have a Republican Governor since 1971, so I don't get this "We'd vote in some Pub, We'd vote in some Dem" nonsense. by and large throughout the history of our state, we've had far more Democrat Governors.

People have irrational fears.

No one is in danger in this country for who they are or what they believe. You have better odds getting struck by lightning than you do being attacked or killed for your faith, skin color, or sexual orientation. It happens, sure but it’s very rare in the scheme of things.

Politicians and media generate fear, create victims and oppressors, people pop off and the politicians and media cycle it and profit from it. Rinse and repeat.

How about instead of jumping the gun and pumping kids full of hormones and puberty blockers and surgically removing parts of their naturally born anatomy the first time a boy plays dress-up or plays with a Barbie doll, We give their brain more time to develop through their confusing, formative years and get them copius amounts of therapy until they are legal adults and able to make their own decisions with a brain much closer to being fully matured.

Jesus was ignoring self serving and incorrect Pharisaical interpretation of the law.

It was man made religiousness and self righteousness. We see it today as well often in more fundamental congregations that create rules and regulations outside of what God says. The church your friend attended likely had a bit of that id guess. I knew a church where if a man didn’t wear a tie on Sunday, he was a little beneath every other man on the spirituality scale. This is how the Pharisees operated.

People of all races, genders, sexual orientation and ethnicities have been beaten just for being who they are throughout history. There are a whole bunch of White people and Asians getting beaten these days simply for being white or Asian. Far more than Trans people per capita I would assume as well. People having issues with other people not like them has been a thing since the dawn of history. Not condoning it, but it's no reason to put all the focus on one group over all the others.
