There are media guidelines from the CDC on how to cover high profile suicides to prevent copy cats and contagion effects. Not sure why we can't do something similar for mass shootings to prevent copy cats.

My first thought is to not buy the narrative hook line and sinker, and to actively question the narrative. Second thought is objectively, independently evaluate the facts. Generally with something like this, you see the narrative before the facts.
Obviously the shooting is a tragedy. But if you already have evaluated his political positions and background and have thoughts on the shooters politics, you are the problem.
