It's gonna be great for rich kids parents who are already in private school ....do very little for middle class kids....and will be terrible for poor kids/special education students.
How much of a voucher or tax credit does every kid in Ky get? Right now the state pays 4k per year per student for all public school students. Are they going to get that full amount?
Even if you get the full 4k that won't mean jack shit if you have little to no money to begin with. Tuition at Trinity High in Louisville is about 15k per year. You think most families in Louisville have the other 11k sitting around? Or 22k sitting around if they have two kids in Trinity???
And you don't think Trinity will start raising their tuition if they know their families already have 4k ready to go?
Then the lower and middle income families will scream for more $$$ to keep up with the wealthy, rise in tuition and $$$ the government is footing for vouchers. It's already happening in Florida.
Guess what happens next?? They have to keep increasing the voucher allotment because now the public expects it and needs it to keep up with rising tuition rates.
Then the best part of all....it becomes a permanent big government program that requires more and more tax $$$$ every year.
All the while...the underfunded public schools are left with less money than ever to teach the kids that are too poor, too neglected, too problematic or too disabled to perform in a private school that can kick out anyone they choose at any time. Oh...yeah the private schools will now need voucher money for busses and transportation eventually too.
You think public schools cost too much $$$ and are going to just completely go away? Just wait....
Now you will be paying for public schools AND private school tuition with no accountability and the ability to raise tuition any time they want.
You're gonna love that Big Ass government voucher program as a taxpayer. 😂
The measure is a continuation of a decades-long push to expand school choice in Florida, a move Republicans support and most Democrats have fought as they advocate for more oversight and accountability for private schools that get state-funded vouchers.
