SCIENCE DUDE, I give you a lot of grief on here, (rightfully deserved) but you are probably an ok dude, just fell for the lefty propaganda.
Hope one day you open your mind and eyes, amd see what the real problems are. It ain't the religious right anymore, those nuts had their heyday in the late 80's early 90's, when everything was 'satanic' and what not.
The real problem now is woke-ism, amd the radical left. And its infiltration into ALL of our institutions. Government, corporations, education, pop culture. Everywhere. It's vile, sick, and disgusting, and pretty much racist as hell.

You're so FOS. Most Elementary teachers in Kentucky didn't even get a plan time guaranteed until a few years ago when they were given 24 minutes a day.
NOBODY gets 2 hour long planning periods unless you serve as an athletic director or similar position at a high school. I've never had more than an hour plan and 22-30 minute lunch in my life. That lunch time also includes walking kids to/from cafeteria and lining them up.... essentially it's 15-25 minutes most days.
It's also more like a 7 hour day by contract. Most schools require having to arrive 20-30 minutes prior to homeroom (ten minutes before students arrive) and not leave until all buses depart.
If you only logged 6 hours you musta been one of those deadbeat teachers that showed up after kids were in the building and beat the buses out the door. I worked with 4 or 5 clowns like you over my 32 years. Nobody liked them.

Spot on. I get so sick of hearing the non stop teacher bashing and repeating of right wing propaganda that all the teachers and public schools are teaching critical race theory, gay pride, and indoctrinating kids.
I've worked in public schools in Ky for 32 years and NEVER seen anything of the like. We were always too damn busy to even think about all that nonsense.
We tried to teach kids the state approved curriculum, how to treat others with respect even if they are different from you and how to be a good citizen.
We said the Pledge every morning and had Fellowship of Christian Athlete meetings once a week before the school day.
The right wing has decided over the last decade that teachers are now the enemy of the state. Sadly, this is eerily similar to other countries like modern day Afghanistan and pre WW2 Nazi Germany. If you know your history....it's a piss poor sign of the future of our nation.
When you mix the far right assault on education with the far left assault on our police you end up with a poorly educated society with a high crime rate. Think it's bad now....give it another decade at this rate. We will be a third world country with a Gucci belt.
That shouldn't be met with blank stares but more education. Since that's what you were there to supposedly receive. 'White' people aren't born any more racist than anyone else. But if you're a member of the majority in a given society things are slanted in your direction such that you both directly and indirectly benefit from just being part of the in-group and often otherize anything outside of that. It's a heck of a lot better to be Han Chinese in China than to be a Uyghur. Neither of those groups are 'white'.

The hatred and vitriole towards the profession is out of control. The kids don't wanna learn anymore either and discipline is out of control as well. These kids hear all this outside and inside the home. Many have lost all respect for teachers and following the rules in school. Why should they listen to those lazy, stupid, good for nothing teachers???
Same thing is happening in our society to our cops. A good chunk thinks the same about cops so why listen to them or follow the laws?? You see it every day on Tik Tok or YouTube.
You'd see the same thing in schools if we were allowed to video our classes and post it.
The right trashes our teachers....the left trashes our cops. Good luck living in that society fools.

If you're logging data and running reports on your own time your employer is stealing time from you. And if your argument is "teachers should stop complaining because everyone works more hours than they're paid for" then congratulations you just realized the entire system needs reform.
And no one should be expected to spend their personal money to do their job. If education is publicly funded teachers should not be spending one dime on the supplies they need for their classroom. Just like you shouldn't be expected to spend one dime on anything your employer requires of you to do your job.

Dude, have you ever seen the back to school lists teachers send out? Those things read like a Walmart inventory sheet. No teachers are out buying markers or pencils for their classes, that's garbage. And if they do, hopefully they are clever enough to write it all off come tax time.
I don't know, met plenty of teachers without the common sense God gave a parakeet, so maybe they don't know about this thing called the 'teacher supply closet'. If there is a shortage of supplies, generally it's because so many teachers et al steal all the supplies for their personal use. Seen it, hoss.

I think the issue is people see what’s going on in the college ranks and believe it is trickling down. I’m sure it does in some cases, but it’s not the norm, at least in Kentucky, Tennessee, and most of VA. There are between 3.5 to 4 million teachers in the US. If it was so common, we’d be blitzed with 24/7 news stories on every conservative platform. Instead, we only hear of a handful every few days and they’re all from liberal strongholds. Like you said, it’s similar to the defund the police movement. Growing up, I never knew or cared who my teachers voted for. I didn’t even know if they had spouses. Most kids still have no idea and don’t care to. Nowadays, if they thought you were cons/lib then they’d act the opposite to try and make you mad. I believe most people have no idea how a school operates or what curriculum is taught, which is why I encourage all parents to take part in being involved with the schools and attend school board meetings. There are bad teachers, just like bad doctors, nurses, or cops. But for the most part, they just want to teach state standards, have their kids succeed, And make sure the kids don’t live in an abusive home. Heck my wife’s school is a great school, and they have to watch the bathrooms all day because kids are destroying property to get likes on TikTok.
I can assure you your experiences cannot be applied across the entire country. Teachers certainly need to buy supplies for their own classrooms, especially in low income districts. I believe the tax write off for supplies is capped at $250, but it's not like writing that off gets you your money back. You're saving like $50 in taxes if you write off the full $250. You're still spending you own personal money. And if no teachers needed to spend their own money on supplies that tax deduction wouldn't exist. But it does, so that should tell you it's a common enough occurrence.

Nope. If you must know I'm a 34 year old self employed consultant. I just think people should be fully compensated for their work. Nobody owes their employer anything, because when the rubber meets the road they won't be looking out for you.
Some on the far left do go too far with the anti-cop rhetoric. You're seeing anti-law enforcement sentiment across the political spectrum these days though. The right wasn't all "Thin Blue Line!" on Jan 6th. It's the damn War on Drugs. Most of the country does or has smoked weed. It shouldn't be a crime. If cops were hunting down burglars and rapists the public would be behind them. We're not burglars or rapists. But our only interactions with police are negative because a large swath of the population are considered criminals just for smoking a plant.
So now socialism means being fairly compensated for your work in a free market economy?
