Government is not our friend. To many people have learned to depend on government to take care of them. People feel better about themselves when they earn something. Government is like fire, a dangerous servant and a fearful master.

Everything I got in life I worked and earned with no help from anyone. I used empty beer cans cut in half and hose clamps to fix the hole in my muffler. I cut my milk/juice with water to make it last longer for my kids. I unloaded banana boxes off a semi for extra cash. I drove a piece of shit car that leaked water every time it rained on my head thru the sun roof. I've cleaned out the grease trap in a fish restaurant sink.

Seriously...I am a retired teacher. Forgot to mention that one time when my kids were little and my wife was staying home with the kids because I didn't want them in daycare we were so f'ing broke I almost stold cans of food from my Thanksgiving food drive. I didn't do it but wanted to because I was so broke. But f teachers right?

I dunno about that. My brother in law is a former drug addict without a high school diploma. His wife, the same. Neither from a family with money. They moved and got clean. Lived in a junky trailer park and worked multiple part time small jobs. She got a GED, college degree and is an RN. He worked with a landscaping business until starting his own commercial painting business that now has contracts all over the outskirts of Nashville. They live in a nice subdivision in a 500K house with anything they want. I’d say the American dream is doing well if you’re willing to do what it takes.
And are they the norm or the exception? For each of them how many didn't make it out of those circumstances? You know the answers to these questions.

Sadly they’re the exception. But where we disagree is the reason why they are. It would take writing a book to really get into it but I don’t think it’s just because people are lazy. It’s much deeper into the psyche of where we are as a society and our fear of change. Some people are actually happy with their situation. Others want to but are unwilling to do what’s necessary, while some just don’t have the knowledge of how to start. They may not own their own business or have a 500K home, but they will have an opportunity to achieve a life better than what they currently have with some security. And isn’t that what anyone wants. To be happy and have some small sense of security?

I support mandates for government agencies/hospitals that receive government $$$$. I support private businesses that choose to have a mandate of their own.
Never supported government mandates of vaccines for private businesses. That is a huge government overreach and was struck down by the Supreme Court as it should have been.

Whether or not we want to admit it there are huge flaws in our system. As you said so many people only need a small helping hand in one way or another to unlock their potential. In the richest country in the world we have to be able to provide that stability.
