A decade ago (sheesh) I worked at a Save-A-Lot. The number of people on food stamps then was mind boggling. The majority of people that had food stamps greater than $800/month would buy pop, chips, sweets, and the most expensive meat in the store.
I once had a woman come through my line bragging on the phone about how smart she was. She said all of these fools in here are slaving away and I get money just for being single and having kids. I’m for helping people who need it (and are legal citizens but that’s another can of worms) but these system gamers make me sick.
And for those who are on it because they need it, the minute they try to pull themselves out of that situation, they lose all benefits and can’t get by. This system is set up for failure and to keep you reliant on the government.

My wife worked at Save-A-Lot in Lawton OK about 19 years ago and she saw many like that one bragging in the same manner. Some would even talk about buying food stamps from others for real cheap (as discussed in an earlier post) and therefore saving more of there own money they actually worked for. She had seen many drive up in SUV's she knew they should not be able to afford if they were actually on food stamps. One time it was a brand new black Cadillac Escalade.
It's amazing how easy he makes it looks. Competency and honesty is all it takes yet it's such a rare combination it's shocking when you see it.
Not surprising sadly. I remember seeing people who had nice cars, brand name clothes, and brand new cell phones on food stamps.
I met my wife at Save-A-Lot. She worked in the tobacco shed. People would come out of the store after spending $700 in food stamps (with $700 left over) and walk over to the shed and drop $200 on cartons of cigarettes. It’s insane.

Aren't food stamps on cards now & tied to one name requiring ID? I realize stores can still cash them.
Not 19 or 20 years ago. Even though it started about that time, it took time to implement it fully in every state. That is probably why they went that way, to cut down on fraud.
See that’s the thing. We don’t have a ton of data dealing with real world application yet. The FDA won’t even fully approve them. We have no idea what the long term effects are, and we are still realizing possible short term effects. You may have seen enough to satisfy yourself and that’s fine. For me personally, I need more.

I’ve seen people pay with Food Stamps and go out and drive away in an Escalade or Tahoe. And this was years ago. Not the stamps Andy is passing out now. It’s ridiculous.
Now apply the same to fraud. Way fewer cases of fraud in an election than inactive voters. But y’all are passing laws to address that “issue”.
Saw a story about the 96 Olympics when the USWNT beat hated Sweden and then China for the gold medal. Watched them stand with pride while the national anthem was played.
Today you have 3/4ths of the team kneeling during the anthem, and all of them wearing BLM warmups. Not sure I could tell they were the American team unless I knew who the players were already.
Just fascinates me how these players think they are doing anything to help anybody. I am not for kneeling at any time, but I can understand an American's right to do it. And I can understand if you choose to do it for your pro team, or on your own or whatever. But doing it while you are at the Olympics representing the USA to me is unforgivable. I am a huge USWNT fan but I have come to terms with the fact that it won't bother me at all if they get knocked out in the group stage.

Knew a guy years ago that share cropped on a mans farm. The renter got food stamps of $400 per month and paid like $20 for them. He borrowed a country ham from farm owner, took to Houchens and sold it, told them to save it as he would be back to get it, took the money, bought his food stamps, went back to Houchens and bought the ham back and returned it to the owner. This happened in Tompkinsville.

I personally think healthcare is a human right which is why I advocate for that policy. But yeah currently our society sees getting treatment when you’re ill as a luxury for those who can afford it. All those things are monetary interactions in our hyper capitalist society.
