And pope can’t read the game. Game in game out we are giving up big runs because one guy breaks us down. It takes pope 3-4 possessions to figure it out and that’s why we lose. Go back and watch the games. It’s always a spurt we give because of a bad lineup and generally one player. This isn’t a skill you learn or develop it’s inherent in great coaches.

By now we should have a tightened rotation and defensively Perry can’t be in it.

Perry definitely hurt us, but I’m not sure Chandler is ready for this type of game either, and playing Butler for 40 minutes isn’t realistic especially when he’s still working back in after missing several games. Realistically, what solution do you think Pope should come up with?

Let Oweh and Brea run the point. Perry cannot play. Period. I know this board loves him cause he lives in the state but he cannot play in these types of games. He's gonna get rolled

Butler hasn't come out since Perry played those 2 min and he looks fine to me.

The first 10-15 minutes isn’t where the issue will show up in if there is one. I’d worry about him still having gas in the tank to close out the game if he gets overextended earlier on.

I mean cmon bro. It's March, this is against number 1..these dudes make 6 figures or more now. It's time to go ball. Period. Can't be worried about overextending. Either he can go or he can't. If he can go then go.

No one was b!tchin about these guys in the Tennessee game. Or chandler in the Vanderbilt game. Geez they’re 19 years old
Most of them are only used to 1 and done mercenaries. They don’t realize most competitive teams have guys who take a couple years to develop. Most 19 year olds aren’t anywhere near peak and will develop a ton with strength, agility, & speed training. They aren’t guys who are going to be NBA bound but they’re the type of support guys who put up 8-10 ppg as JR/Srs and knocked our future NBA freshmen out of the tourneys in the past. We need them for the future. You’re not reloading in the portal every single year to win a championship. You have to have holdovers.

"Why is it taking these guys so long to develop, why arent these freshman better"
That’s it. When you look up career stats on some of these seniors and 5th year guys who are studs that teams grabbed in the portal, you see that they might have averaged 2-5 ppg on pretty bad teams. There are big jumps from their freshman to sophomore years and then again from sophomore to junior years. It takes time to develop really good older college players.

Ha yeah.

The vast majority of freshmen aren't very good.

We clamor for guys in the portal who in their freshman season we would've labeled not SEC caliber. Chaz Lanier, for example, averaged 1.7 PPG and shot 30% from 3 as a freshman at North Florida.

you really can't see the difference some of the other teams freshman younger and better
Yeah many are but many aren’t. Majority of really good teams in the country don’t have freshmen as significant contributors. Most aren’t playing anything but slop time in blowouts or a few spot minutes. Injuries have forced UKs hand. High level freshmen aren’t going to be around long enough to develop. You get them 1-2 years max. We have to have guys that’ll stick around 4 years and contribute as juniors and seniors.

Sadly I agree. Noah should play but Perry is getting abused. From now on Butler, Oweh, Williams, Carr, and Brea need 30 minutes a game. Almonor, Noah, Garrison, and Maybe Chandler for a breather here and there. It’s time to play the best of what we have all game if we have too.

I think getting Nate Ament is huge honestly. We need to start pulling in elite freshman. We need guys who are older to carry while they develop but by the time conference comes around guys like Tre Johnson at that level make a huge difference on the floor. At worst we need better athletes who rebound and play defense. If we had a guy like Richmond that stuck around in our class he would be a huge bench piece for us. He could play in the SEC.

I agree Perry is not ready for big time games this year. But a kid that scored over 5,000 points in highschool can't be written off. He needs to get stronger and learn some defense, which he didn’t have to worry about in highschool since his offense more than cancelled any defensive deficiencies. He could be a different player next year.

Brea and Butler played over 30 minutes today. Brea played 38.

Oweh played 20 due to foul trouble.

Brea and Oweh played over 30 last game. Butler maxed out his minutes since he fouled out.

Pope is playing our starting wings more.

We need to stick with our starters longer to start the game. Bare minimum, don't make any subs until under 15 minutes. Maybe even see if we can push till closer to the under 12 break. Subbing out our starters before we even got to the under 16 break is what led to our demise today.
