Perry is unplayable in a game like this.

I agree Perry is not ready for big time games this year. But a kid that scored over 5,000 points in highschool can't be written off. He needs to get stronger and learn some defense, which he didn’t have to worry about in highschool since his offense more than cancelled any defensive deficiencies. He could be a different player next year.
Lyon County excelled at 1-2-2 zone defense, as their man defense was used only sporadically.

Perry and Noah will hopefully be serviceable for 10 mins a game in the future. Pope has to play who is he has available. It certainly sucks for those two because they kinda got thrown to the wolves as freshmen who are obviously not SEC caliber players at this point.

I think he’ll be able to be a solid contributor off the bench his Jr and Sr years. The way this year has went down sucks but the experience could work out in the long run in years 3&4 of Pope’s tenure when these freshmen are ready to contribute in their roles.

Why can’t popes guys go 30-35 min a game especially in a big game? One stretch game on life support.
You push Butler like that and he’s potentially out. He’s hurt.
You push Carr like that. Out. He’s hurt.
Play Oweh and Williams I agree. I just do not believe there is a good answer.
If those 2 go out now. We are totally screwed.

Somehow or another, Travis Ford at 5ft 9 became more than serviceable. But it was as a 4th yr JR, 5th yr SR. Give the kid some time to develop.

I always thought of Perry as a 3 point shooter in college. He has lots of other limitations at this point but he can shoot. Maybe he turns into a Cameron Mills type guy.

We need them for the future. You’re not reloading in the portal every single year to win a championship. You have to have holdovers.
The problem is, the holdovers of Perry/Noah/Chandler are not close to being athletic enough, offensively skilled enough, quick enough, or good enough defensively to be guys to contribute to a championship. We need numerous great players to win championships, and those three making up 25 percent of the roster is going to be a problem unless they are players 11/12/13.

A fair point, but there is a significant speed difference between those two. It was the quick feet that helped Ford overcome the size disadvantage. Perry doesn’t really have that to work with.

And, unfortunately, quickness ain’t something you can learn with experience. Either you got it or you don’t.

So you think Chandler isn’t athletic with potential? And you think Noah doesn’t guard as well as everyone outside of Amari and Butler? He’s probably our 2nd best per min rebounder. Guys dont just peak their strength, speed, or athleticism at 18-19 and the difference in speed isn’t seconds. Its tenths or hundredths. But I do know I’ve watched our skilled athletes get sent home by slow, unathletic teams of veterans the last several years.

And pope can’t read the game. Game in game out we are giving up big runs because one guy breaks us down. It takes pope 3-4 possessions to figure it out and that’s why we lose. Go back and watch the games. It’s always a spurt we give because of a bad lineup and generally one player. This isn’t a skill you learn or develop it’s inherent in great coaches.

By now we should have a tightened rotation and defensively Perry can’t be in it.
Yep, it's hard to watch but him being throne into the fire will be very beneficial for Ky next year. This team is limited but most know that Pope did a very good job putting a roster together. Our starting 5 healthy can play with anyone but then it's a major drop off. Next year Perry won't be expected to do so much and he'll be much better as will Noah and Chandler.

Why not play zone when Perry and Noah are in the game like the 2-3 instead of the 1-3-1 where your trying to trap the ball, these guys arent athletic enough to play a trapping zone. Just dont make any sense to me. Pope hasnt changed defensive looks very much this year which i dont understand. They need to teach these guys how to get in a defensive stance and dive for loose balls instead of just bending over and trying to pick up balls, we've lost many posessions by not not getting on the floor this year, Unacceptable!

Ha yeah.

The vast majority of freshmen aren't very good.

We clamor for guys in the portal who in their freshman season we would've labeled not SEC caliber. Chaz Lanier, for example, averaged 1.7 PPG and shot 30% from 3 as a freshman at North Florida.
Speaking of Lanier- he was interviewed last night and said he came to Tennessee to play for a coach who would develop him. I thought it was a slap in the face to the North Florida coaches. They developed him into a guy who was all conference and good enough to transfer into the SEC. Just tell the truth. It is about the money. It is legal now.

Honest question for you, Jaxson is out, Kerr is out, and Butler is 1 injury to that shoulder away from being done for the year and then there’s Carr. Who is your backup plan in Butler goes down for PG and sub for breaks? Pope’s gotta try to win and get minutes for guys to get em up to speed. It sucks but…….

I guess no one remembers John Pelphrey playing early in his career. He was so overmatched it was unbelievable. I remember one game he had a triple dribble because he was so flustered. Would anyone say he didn’t have the ability to play in the SEC? Granted it was a different league but those teams were a couple of bounces from cutting the nets down.

We lost a game against an elite team. It is not doomsday. This team can still win some games in the tournament.

I hate losses more than anyone but a return to dominance is on its way. Give it time.

Yea, let's blame Perry. He played 7 mins. Butler & Oweh got dominated yesterday. Who was guarding Pettiford yesterday. He's 6'1 and got where ever he wanted. Who was guarding Kelly? 27 pts. Who did he score those on? It wasn't Perry & Noah. You can't be soft and play defense, I don't care how quick you are. how many times did our guards drive in the paint just to miss a layup?

I honestly hope he does I just don’t know if he can do enough to be a great SEC player or not. We have to recruit over him until he’s ready at least. I like the kid and want him to do big things.

You have to go ahead and recruit over Perry, Noah, and Chandler, end of story. If they catch up..and I hope they do, great! But the train has to move forward.

By the way, whether it be at UK or somewhere else, my guess is Perry and Noah will be much better basketball players than Chandler. I’m not trying to be mean but he’s a 21 year old freshman and he’s so far behind it’s not funny.

Preparation for each team begins in practice.
How did Richie, Sean, Deron and John succeed against some of the better teams?
They had Jamal, but I don’t see a big disparity of talent between that team and this one.
We just don’t look prepared at tip.
Is it injuries? I guess, but how do you beat a Tennessee team twice?
I thought having Butler back improved us but he doesn’t appear healthy.
The attention to detail is definitely missing.

It’s not Perry’s fault just like it’s not popes fault he was offered the job. Neither are near ready and both have big deficits.
