I think he graduated from Calloway County in 1968. Also Jim Youngblood from Mayfield was pretty good played at Georgia. What year was Stan?
Know you were speaking high school, but in the 60s, Greg Smith
of Princeton became a good NBA player. Logged 8/9 years and more
PT than many on those on the list. Greg and Dwight were some of my favorites along with Haskins at WKU in the late 60s.
The Smith brothers are often overlooked in discussions such as these,in some ways they are like the Harrison twins 2 or 3 generations before Aaron and Andrew. They were good ones and Dwight was the star, not many thought Greg would make it but he did. Chris Whitney and Bird Averitt and Greg Buckner all were from Christian County and all played pro basketball. George Hart was a superstar in the late 40's for Frances high school in Crittenden County.
Good topic. Not the biggest expert on this sort of thing, so I have nothing to add myself. But here's a summary of what everyone's come up with so far, I think. (Feel free to amend. I'm not sure why 6th and 7th regions are combined above.) Still missing a few nominees for five of the regions.
1. Joe Fulks, Dan Langhi
2. Frank Ramsey
3. Rex Chapman, Butch Beard, Corky Withrow, Patrick Sparks
4.
5. Jim McDaniels, Clem Haskins
6 and 7. Darrell Griffith, Allan Houston, Wes Unseld, Tony Williams, Charlie Taylor, Brandon Bender, Paul Yaden, Dujan Wheat, Q, Terrance Farle
8.
9. Dave Cowens
10.
11.
12. Reggie Hanson, Kenny Davis, Leonard Coulter
13. Frank Selvey
14.
15. Kelly Coleman
16. Larry Conley, OJ Mayo

Who is Darrell Griffin? Sheesh...
Anyway, Bender, Farley Bush and Spillman have no business on that list.
1a. Darrell GriffITH
1b. Wes Unseld
3. Allan Houston
Played there.Don't know if anyone has mentioned Richard Travis yet. He graduated from Bowling Green High Street H.S. in 1965, and played his college ball at Oklahoma City University. During his junior and senior years at OCU, Rich finished No. 7 and No. 6 in the nation, respectively, in points-per-game scoring average among all D-1 players !
I'm pleased to "nominate" Rich Travis as the best player ever to come out of the "old Fifth Region" - now the Fourth Region, I think - which includes schools in several counties in and around Bowling Green. Rich was a good guy who beat us (Franklin-Simpson) by one point in the finals of the 17th District Tournament in 1964 on a last second forty-footer from right in front of the scorer's table in the old Bowling Green High gym on Center Street (which all of y'all old guys from South Central KY will probably remember).
Good friends with Lisa Harrison during the day. She could ball.Top "HIGH SCHOOL" Player...has nothing to do with post-HS career...going with the two regions here in Jeff Co...
6th Region I'll go with Lisa Harrison from Southern Hign School.
7th Region hands down is Manuel Forrest from Moore High School.
My dad always talked about him. Said he broke his right arm and practiced with his left so much that he could really score either handed.I've heard old-timers say that George Bryant was the best they ever saw
6th and 7th have always been loaded. Chuck Williams and Ron King from Central, Mike Redd from Seneca, Winston Bennett from Male, OLD timers say Ralph Beard was amazing player.
All time Jefferson County: Griffith, Unseld, Houston, Silliman, and Winston Bennett.

Butch Beard played for Breakenridge Co. if memory serves me correctly, which was in the 4th region when he played. They were later moved to the 3rd region.Butch Beard was from the 4th Region, many said the third, which is wrong. Butch has to be #1 in the 4th.
7th Unseld or Griffith, nobody else could carry their jock.
16th Larry Conley, almost won a 2nd title by himself.
10th Gerry Calvert, Bobby Jones, Ronnie Lyons, Darius Miller, Chris Lofton. Hard to chose #1, I saw them all.
11th Jeff Mullins, the Goose.
Yeah, guy was HOFer based on what he did AFTER he left U.K. And we all know what he did while he was here.Definitely older, but I cannot believe Cliff Hagan hasn't been mentioned yet re: 3rd region.
Just admit your were being rehabilitated through basketball.A lot of people prolly don't know Joe Fulks invented the jump shot, I saw him when he was at the Kentucky state penitentiary while he was over the recreation department.
pretty good list, played against a couple of those guys.5th Region
Clem Haskins-Taylor Co-WKU
Boo Brewer-Bardstown-U of L
Anthony Epps- Marion Co-UK
Elton Scott-Marion Co-WVU
Tick Rodgers-Hart Co-U of L
Robbie Valentine-North Hardin- U of L
Kevin Ellery-Washington Co-Notre Dame
Antwoin Barbour-Elizabethtown-UK
has nothing to do with post-high school career, but it also should have more to do with than just scoring. Forrest scored more than anyone, but a lot plays into that - can't say he was the very best (although agreed he should likely be on the short list)......Top "HIGH SCHOOL" Player...has nothing to do with post-HS career...going with the two regions here in Jeff Co...

Joe Fulks played at Kuttawa which was in the 2nd Region. In the 1st region, probably Joe Fulks who once scored 63 in an NBA game
Don't think Allen County was in the Fifth regionIs there anybody better than Jim McDaniels at Allen Co. In the 5th region?
He is: 3,226 Manual Forrest (Moore) 1977-81Manuel Forrest needs to be mentioned for the 7th region. His college career fizzled out, but I believe he is still the leading scorer in Jefferson County history.
Joe Fulks played at Kuttawa which was in the 2nd Region.
I like Feldhous. But before Lofton is homerism.10th Region
1) Darius Miller
2) Deron Feldhaus
3) Chris Lofton
4) Ronnie Lyons
Many, many more
I started to put 1 and 1A. Honestly, I always felt like Miller slightly underachieved and Feldhaus slightly overachieved. Just an opinion.I like Feldhous. But before Lofton is homerism.
