Every time we lose a game there is a thread like this of self righteous “true” fans.

Pope feels like another Tubby Smith without the Rick roster to work off of. There is a magic in this game that Pope can tap in to. This year we're limited in our player's capabilities. If Pope can recruit elevated talent to come here and learn his methodology of the game, we step back up into the stratosphere of the Duke and Kansas realm. College basketball is at a tipping point. We saw that Cal's philosophy doesn't work with relying on talent alone. We've seen that Izzo's methodology doesn't work in relying on an early 2000s way of building a team. There has to be a middle ground. If Pope can balance the scale, he'll succeed. Otherwise, we're in for 10-14 years of not getting to the Final Four.

He ‘clearly’ has NOTHING to prove. How can anyone with a brain question him. First year at UK. No players whatsoever. Built a team that overachieved .. before we lost arguably our most important players. Give the man a break and a few years to rebuild the team that Triple C destroyed. We’re going to be a 3 seed and we’ll have a chance to win a few games (hopefully more) if we get Butler back. The future is bright and anyone taking negative shots at Pope and this team need to get a life.
Getting emotional during and right after a game is normal. AND we set ourselves up for pretty easy trolling. And honestly I think there a few real good posters that want legit conversation.

The man didnt even have a coaching staff till mid May. No players at all on roster when he took the job. To compare his situation to Cal when he came is IDIOCY. In fact no coach in UK history has had to deal with such circumstances. That you can't see that indicates a pretty clear agenda doesn't it.

I think Pope has coached a helluva year. It still pisses me off he is not on the Naismith list for coach of the year.
Give Pope that roster and he does just as well.
You cant compare their first years, Pope couldnt get a roster anywhere near as talented as Cal. Cal recruited his class to memphis and then had them follow him to UK, he had Patterson and Liggins return . Pope had no one return and didnt have the NIL backing that Kevin Young has 1 year later.
Its still not apples to apples but its more fair to compare what Pope does with returning players like Oweh and Chandler to go with the recruiting class we have coming in.
Either way what Cal did his first 7 years at UK was incredible and might not be beaten by anyone in their first 7 years coaching a school from here on out. But with time Pope could build something truly special.

Really, I just saw a thread that says now that UK is out of the SECT the seats will be empty.
Given the fact that college basketball as we know it is dying, it's pretty amazing that we still have a large bunch of fans who are willing to show up to games, even out of town.
Pope literally tied a record for most wins against top 15 teams in a season. You're trolling isnt going to get any of us to act like the future is bleak with Pope so go away .

No one is soft because they have the view that Cal's first season and Pope's first season are not comparable at all.
Cal inherited Patterson and Miller from BCG, Pope got no one.
We did not play against any portal built rosters in '10.
Cal himself was unable to duplicate his first season UK success this season at Arkansas.
So if the "Master" couldn't pull it off why are you busting Pope's balls about not being as good as Cal's first season here?
