NFL Draft

Next Gen Stats had him as the 4th best CB at the combine. Speed kills, 4.26.
Glad you posted that link. If you look at the bottom video it talks about DJ Turner possibly being a surprise 1st round pick. Watch it if you haven't already.

Explosive athlete combining fluidity, speed and superior technique to excel at his craft. Turner is scheme-diverse with the ability to line up inside or outside in coverage. He’s graceful with his mirror and match movements from press or off-man coverage, but he is plenty feisty when challenging throws or hitting receivers after the catch. Despite his competitiveness, big receivers can bounce him around and beat him on 50/50 balls. Turner has the tools and talent to become an early starter as a nickel corner capable of matching up with both shifty and speedy opponents.

PFF had Turner at #46 overall.

It's crazy how much I already love this Bengals defense and now they go even deeper. Although when you really look at it, they play 5 of the top 10 offenses in the NFL this year. Not an easy task defensively against KC, Buffalo, Minnesota, San Francisco and Jacksonville, among others.

Our whole defensive line I love. DJ Reader may be my favorite player on the team. I loved Bates at Safety, too, and hated to see him go. He brought an attitude to the defense like I am going to lay the wood to somebody and I loved that. Atlanta will be happy to have him.

We got Reader another Clemson guy to play on that line. Going to be fun.

I loved Bell as well.

Falcons are vastly improved on paper. I really like what they've done this year so far.

Ouch on this draft grade for Houston's 2nd round pick c Juice Scruggs :
  • Draft Grade: F
  • School: Penn St.
  • Height: 6' 3"
  • Weight: 301
Charles McDonald's Commentary
Man, what a reach. Not one person had Scruggs going this high in the draft and he struggled against Shrine Bowl competition. Major overpay for someone who projects to be a depth player.

Probably my least favorite draft as a Lions fan.
Not sure why as you guys are doing well. cb Brian Branch was the best pick in the entire 2nd round. You killed it with that pick.
  • Draft Grade: A+
  • Pre-Draft Rank: 26
  • School: Alabama
  • Height: 6' 0"
  • Weight: 190

This is the best pick the Lions have made by far in this draft. This pick would have been fine at No. 12 where they took Jahmyr Gibbs. Branch can do just about anything for the Lions' secondary outside of playing outside corner. Great pick.

Lions are not far away though in a division that can be won. The Bears and Packers are both down and might be a couple years away. Lions can also score against Minnesota. That defense sucks. The winner of the NFC North probably depends on which team improves the most defensively.

Bengals get Roschon Johnson tomorrow to replace Perine then maybe some oline depth and I'm all good with this draft. Good job, Zac and Katie.

All these teams that have taken RB’s in round three are crazy for not taking Roschon. He’s the steal of the draft at this point.

His bio looks perfect for the Bengals. Tell me this guy doesn't fit as a perfect replacement for Perine, He's projected as late as the 5th round in pre draft mocks but I would have been happy for the Bengals to take him with that 3rd round pick. They may be willing to gamble he will be there:

Pre-Draft Analysis

Johnson is a patient and efficient between-the-tackles runner who powers through arm tackles and pushes the pile. He's a reliable safety valve who runs hard after the catch. He's a willing blocker with the strength and toughness to anchor in pass pro. Johnson has the potential to develop into a core special teams' player. -- Steve Muench

Their only smart decision.

They traded down and got a RB when they could have gotten Carter. Campbell was a reach in the first. There were better TEs (Meyer) and they needed defense more.

I was happy with Branch. But Hooker is older, injured, and a system QB. Then they traded 3 picks for the kid from Western Kentucky they could have gotten in the fifth or sixth.

Unless they’re trying to get the #1 pick, I don’t understand their strategy.

Ringo just went to the Eagles. Philly is going to have the WHOLE UGA defense before the season opener this fall.

AMAZING

They just traded with Detroit and got Swift as well. That Bulldog I mean Eagles team is jaw dropping. Screws them Cowboys, so I'm good with it.

Bears snagged him.

UK doing it with smoke & mirrors: one pick in four rounds.
Valentine should have come back for another year. We're halfway through the 6th round and he is STILL on the board. Heck, the Patriots just took a punter ahead of him.

WHO was advising him???!!!!!

FINALLY!!!!!

He is going to turn a lot of heads next season!!! He is WAAAAYYYY underrated!!!
Washington was given a B grade for the pick. I hope he does well, but Washington has several backs that will be tough to compete with.

Patriots trade up in the 4th for a kicker. CBS sports rates that pick an F.

As unlikely as it once may have seemed, Bill Belichick is headed for a well deserved firing. He is a disaster at the draft or any of his GM tinkering for that matter. Great defensive coach that in the end was overrated because of the greatness of Tom Brady.

As a Dallas Cowboys fan still shaking my head we passed on Nolan Smith for Mazi Smith … and allowed him to join the rest of the Georgia Bulldogs of Philadelphia ….
