New 247 2016 Rankings

You have it backwards. You're looking at the 247 rankings and the composite ranking is in gray below their ranking. They have Giles at 3, composite he is 1.
You're right. I had it backwards. Thanks for pointing that out.

Pretty surprised they have Giles at number three the way he's being hyped up as the best high schooler since Anthony Davis.

He shot 40% on a limited number of attempts during USA. During the EYBL this summer he shot 4-25 good for 16%. He neither takes many threes nor makes them. The EYBL covers a significantly larger portion of games. He's not a 3 point shooter at all, but is a good mid-range shooter.

I think Jerry Meyer is just trying to be different by having Giles 3 and Tatum 13. Both are better IMO.

Espn slurping duke recruits.

Dukes buzz has reached it's apex, is now coming back down.

Giles/Tatum > Jordan/pippen

Giles
Jackson
Fox
Tatum
Monk

That would be my top 5 if I were getting paid for my opinion.

and you know what...his career is even a larger portion of games....which he shot 30%. so again...please stop

And I like Fox, but seriously- you're going to take him ahead of Giles, a 6'10" beast athlete with decent skills? You can do that if you want, but I'll take Giles and be 100% confident that if everything else is equal, I'm going to kick your ass.

The clips of Giles as a junior in high school look like a college player having fun with middle school kids. He looks like Julius Randle would have looked if Randle had possessed any grace. If you're a player you have a dilemma: do I want to play on his team and watch my own skills atrophy or do I want to win? He's definitely a Give That Guy the Ball kind of player.

Stop what? Presenting facts that you don't seem to like? Facts are, Tatum hit 4/10 3's for USA Basketball in 8 games, hit 4/18 in the Nike EYBL regular season (17 games), and then went 0/5 in 5 Peach Jam games.

Tatum is very good, but you're acting foolish here. Almost no one (besides Jerry Meyer) is saying he's really only the 12th best guy in the recruiting class. Most would agree that he belongs in the 3-7 (at worst) range.

the dude said tatum isnt the prospect guys like monk are. nothing factual about that and its a stupid opinion because there is little backing it. especially when in fact tatum is ranked #2 in mock drafts for 2017.

i get it...people want bridges and they want to believe he is coming here. so naturally they get super excited about him and build him up to be more than they really are. just this summer....people were all in on simmons. people raved about him. turns out...he isnt as good as most though. new love affair with fultz, who registered a couple triple doubles. he was a great shooter. turns out...he is a terrible shooter and a bit of a wild player who takes boat loads of shots. after all spring when people said they wanted skill players that can play position-less basketball....but now in this one case its....a "wow" athlete is better. despite the fact that same athlete really only excels when play the tweener role which is usually a death sentence in terms of the next level.

I'm not downing Tatum, but I really think the difference between him and Bridges is marginal from what I've seen. I think he's top 5 and Bridges is top 10 in a loaded class. If that's our "consolation prize" I guess I'll just have to learn to live with it.

No way should Frank Jackson be ranked higher than Jayson Tatum. Blasphemous
That is silly. But Frank Jackson is really really good and should be ranked somewhere in the top-15 in this class. Top-10 in just about any other class. Jerry Meyer goes crazy over talented guards. He ranked Josh Selby as #1 in the 2010 class.

Espn has Gilles and Tatum 1 and 2. Just imagine the hype machine that will be generated for them in 2016. What is really funny is that in reality UK prob has the top two players (maybe Simmons) this year and you will not hear near the hype as those Duke kids in fact Simmons is being hyped may more than Skal in my opinion.

Maybe there just isn't much separation this year and it just comes down to preference.
You can move a lot of the kids in the top 20 around but there's not a coach in the country who wouldn't make Tatum a top 3 choice. Might not be able to jump out of the gym but is a completely unselfish born leader who can play 4 positions.

That must be the difference between RR and House of Blue. I rarely post on RR, but hardly anybody was hyping Simmons up on House of Blue. I don't want any part of Simmons and have said that for months. I never said Tatum wasn't a great player, I said he wasn't a good 3 point shooter and IMO Bridges was a better player. I presented you with stats which proved you wrong and you don't like it. You also presented old scouting reports on Bridges, scouts say just the opposite now. And that's just a fact. So you change the subject and start claiming all sorts of other stuff I didn't say and talk about what other people have said. Better luck next time.

Even when you present this dude with facts he can't accept it. Is this the way he usually is on here?

the only people claiming bridges is as good as tatum are uk fans. fact.

Both Tatum and Bridges are top 10 players and if one is better then the other is very very marginal . If I could have just one player it would be Monk and I think we get him.

i think that was my thought too. but i think i'd put fox ahead of monk. just because an elite PG that can shoot and defend, get to end to end...just means more. he and monk...good lord watch out.

Fox, Monk, and Bridges would make me very happy. Would not mind to see those guys with Killeya-Jones and Adebayo inside.

That's what I'm saying. Most years either of those guys would be top 3, making a case for #1. It's just so dang deep this year at the top. As many amazing backcourts as we've had, that one would have a great chance to be the best yet.

for all the "expert" talent evaluators out there who have declared tatum not athletic. here is what draft express (who actually sees these kids play) had to say about him:

"Outlook: Superbly talented wing player with a terrific skill-level and feel for the game. Effortless athlete for whom everything comes easy. "

oh and by the way...tatum is very very young for his class. so to say he isnt the prospect as some other guys...you are basically pretty stupid.

This isn't about Tatum. Actually I couldn't care less about Tatum, and agree he is better than some are giving him credit for.

But... basically what you are saying to put zero stock in the opinions from anyone other than Draft Express when it comes to evaluating Tatum. If Draft Express says it, then it's fact. Says who?

Just because Draft Express said it doesn't mean it's the end all be all. Either way until he actually laces them up and plays college ball they are all just opinions, correct? On who's authority is one more right than the other? Surely not yours.

Exactly. Hell nobody had Towns ahead of Okafor at this time last year. Hell Cliff Alexander was ranked ahead of him on several sites. DeAngelo Russell was on no draft site's top 5 last year. Oubre was ranked ahead of Winslow on every site. It's just my opinion that Bridges is as good as Tatum. I absolutely could be wrong, but as every year shows rankings and draft status a year before in no way means that's how it's going to turn out.

Ditto! That kind of PG just means more IMO.

i'll take draft express' views over anyone's here because you know...he actually seems these guys play. if you dont believe guys who see someone play has a better and more valuable opinion than people who dont....well....i dont know what to do with that logic. when everyone in the business says player is better than player b....but members of a fanbase say player b is better....come on....

Valuing someone's opinion over another is one thing, and I completely agree that in any case, depending on who you ask, some opinions are of more worth than others.

That's not how it came off in this thread, though. It was as if you quoted Draft Express, then acted like everyone should just get in line and take what Draft Express had to say as an undeniable fact, no questions asked. Not quite. Their opinion may have some value, but not nearly that much.

Taking an opinion as undeniable fact just because Draft Express said so is logic that I don't what to do with. I prefer to analyze data, think for myself and form my opinion(s), regardless of who said what.

My own personal rankings
1. Jackson... Has the best all around game as well as being a great athlete. Has the upside to be a great defender.
2. Fox... Extremely quick and has the ability to get past and defender. Needs to add strength
3. Monk... Great athlete and explosive scorer. Defensively has the ability to be a game changer.
4. Giles. Great athlete and extremely explosive getting to the rim. Still very raw and needs to develop other parts of his game. Great defensively. Has the ability to move up on this list.
5. Smith. Great athlete and scorer.
6. Has a very skilled all around game. A poor man's Ben Simmons.

John wall as #5 for ESPN ratings in 09 had to be the worst "look at me my poll is different" moment in history.

This is around the same. Just awfully positioned. Tatum at #12 lol. Jerry Meyer is terrible. He gets paid for that, just think about it.

That is just ESPN, they wait till Duke & north Carolina sign and them rate then high.
I think we have a good shot at landing Fox. Like him a lot.

Dave I have always enjoyed your posting, and I really like Fox hope we get him.

Bet it would be nearly universal among scouts that he significantly closed the gap this spring/summer. Tatum is better due to his overall skillset and feel for the game but if Bridges keeps developing by the end of the senior years it may be debatable.

Your desire to bang on our fans is just weird.

Goodness, just saw the draftexpress comment. Givony has good nba contacts and watches games but is not a scout himself. Boston likes him because he is also a northeast nerd....a chubby Italian kid with a lisp at that. As flawed as Meyer is he at least is a famous coach's kid.

What doesn't get talked about is context of NBA ceiling versus CBB impact these guys are ranking toward.

good take...you got me. pretty hilarious everyone thinks i'm from the northeast because of a screen/user name. so stupid.....but not surprising.

As many times as you have insulted people from KY, that is not an outlandish assumption. Regardless, you fit the profile to a tee.
