New 247 2016 Rankings

Those are so different from the ESPN rankings that it literally makes all the recruiting services look dumb. How can your profession be so inconsistent? Imagine going to a doctor for foot pain and one says you have a broken toe and the other says you tore a ligament. Would you trust one over the other or just the whole damn profession?

Jerry Meyer doing his typical Jerry Meyer thing- basically, begging for attention by having some dramatic differences from everyone else.

I agree that Tatum should not really be mentioned as the top player in the class. He's just not explosive enough as an athlete, which might be OK if he was a great shooter, but he's not that, either. I would certainly take Giles and Jackson ahead of him, and arguments can be made for guys like Fox, Smith, Monk, and so on. But 12 is just dumb. I don't think the guy is superlative enough to be talked about as the best player in a loaded class, but he's still really, really good.

And I like Fox, but seriously- you're going to take him ahead of Giles, a 6'10" beast athlete with decent skills? You can do that if you want, but I'll take Giles and be 100% confident that if everything else is equal, I'm going to kick your ass.

These rankings are terrible. Tatum at 12? Giles at 3? Lonzo Ball at 4? Wouldn't trust these ratings

John wall as #5 for ESPN ratings in 09 had to be the worst "look at me my poll is different" moment in history.

This is around the same. Just awfully positioned. Tatum at #12 lol. Jerry Meyer is terrible. He gets paid for that, just think about it.

Lonzo Ball at 4 is completely absurd. Great passer, impressive athlete, but there are 8 year olds with better jumpshots. Ball shoots like he's trying to hurt the rim.

Wow, these might be the most divergent rankings across the various recruiting services that I have ever seen. 2016 is obviously a loaded class so it doesn't matter much 1-15 or even 1-20, but still.

Maybe there just isn't much separation this year and it just comes down to preference.

I've looked at scout more than anyone else lately. I don't know if they're any better but I like that they give you a little synopsis on the player.

Rivals updated 2 days ago and they changed very little. Jackson, Giles, Tatum at 1, 2, 3. Simmons at 8, Fox up to 9 (Simmons still over Fox?), Bridges still down at 23, SKJ still down at 51, Wenyen Gabriel at 81. And Humphries is still in the 16 class.

Have they even been paying attention to anything?

guess which recruiting service has full access to team USA and Coach K. But it doesn't show does it? (dws)
What are you even talking about?

Stop with the paranoia. Yes, Krzyzewski coaching Team USA has helped his recruiting. Duh. But there's not some huge conspiracy between Krzyzewski, USA Basketball, and ESPN. Who are you implying that ESPN is overrating as part of this stupid conspiracy theory? Giles? The guy that everyone knows is one of the very best in the country? Tatum? Everyone thinks he's top 3 except Jerry Meyer, and Meyer is alone out on his limb.

Tatum is a great player but not the prospect Monk, Fox, Jackson IMO. Tatum is a skilled finesse player who isn't a good perimeter shooter or an elite athlete. I'll take the elite athlete and superior strength and shooter Bridges over Tatum, although I know I'm in the minority. I've compared Bridges to Justise Winslow and oddly enough Winslow was ranked just outside of the top 10 like Bridges. Tatum=Oubre, Bridges=Winslow.

stuff like this makes me laugh.

for all the "expert" talent evaluators out there who have declared tatum not athletic. here is what draft express (who actually sees these kids play) had to say about him:

"Outlook: Superbly talented wing player with a terrific skill-level and feel for the game. Effortless athlete for whom everything comes easy. "

oh and by the way...tatum is very very young for his class. so to say he isnt the prospect as some other guys...you are basically pretty stupid.

Effortless and explosive are 2 different things. No one (at least not me) is saying he's athletically deficient. He's fast, quick, and he can jump. However, he lacks the "wow" factor that Harry Giles and Josh Jackson (or Malik Monk and Dennis Smith) have (in spades). And though he's skilled, that skill-set doesn't involve much 3 point shooting, despite him mainly being a perimeter player.

he is a 30% three point shooter at 16. smith is 20% and older. 2 months ago everyone was screaming about having shooters and not just athletes. now people want just athletes.

bridges has ZERO upside as a tweener. he gets his points by playing PF which is only going to get you so far, even in college. see alex poythress.

tatum is a great athlete, long, fluid, skilled. people are trying way way too hard.

We get it, you like Tatum.

miles bridges: "He's not overly advanced with the ball in the half court, struggles to make shots from the perimeter (1-of-9 from three with loose mechanics), and isn't the most comfortable passer on the move or versus pressure. "

but hey...he is a "WOW" athlete.

The 247 composite is an averaging of the rankings of several other sites if I understand correctly. The actual 247 rankings are in grey boxes below the composite ranking. I find it odd that they feature the composite ranking over their own considering that a number of the sites that they include in their composite rarely update their rankings. That explains why they listed Jamal Murray as a four-star for so long. Going off of the actual 247 ranking and not the composite, Giles is still their #1.

Look at Tatum's stats this summer. He shot around 18% from 3. You must be reading old scouting reports on Bridges. Scouts have raved about the advances he's made with his basketball skills this summer. Did you see Evan Daniels interview with him where he talks about that. Daniels specifically talked about how Brdiges used to get all of his points as a PF, but now he can score going to the basket and can shoot it. Have you seen Meyer's quotes about his improvements. Have you seen Bossi's? Apparently not. Btw, Bridges shot the 3 ball MUCH better than Tatum this summer. That's cool if you like Tatum more (many people do) but try to keep up with more current scouting reports.

You have it backwards. You're looking at the 247 rankings and the composite ranking is in gray below their ranking. They have Giles at 3, composite he is 1.

Tatum shot 40% from three for USA this summer.
