Netflix “Wrestlers”

Lol. This show is for sure making him the “heel”. Or heal. However you spell it.

Oh wow. Just showed his medical event. Wow. That was scary.

@MattJonesKSR man, that was scary. Not sure how much say you had in it but props for allowing that to air. Glad you are alright.

get ready for people that claim to hate him watching every episode just to complain
I don’t care about them. I listen most everyday. I find it entertaining. He seems like a huge dick but I guess most successful people tend to be. Not that that makes it right but sometimes I feel bad for him. Especially after watching that medical scene. Episode 3 or 4 I believe.

The portrayal of him on the show apparently switches around ep 3 or 4, and he becomes more of a "good guy" with a vision for the company or whatever (so I've heard). Haven't watched any of it yet, but plan to at least give the show a shot.

I think I’m at that part now. It’s worth a watch for sure. Cool seeing “local” people on Netflix.

I actually give him a lot props for this. I didn’t know the story about his biological father(I won’t spoil it). This actually made me gain respect for him.

That was tough to watch. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

He does talk down to people. I don’t think he realizes it but he does do that.

It's a pretty good documentary. I'm on episode 5 of 7. Having been a "ringside photographer" for multiple wrestling/'rasslin companies here on the west coast, many of the stories are similar.
About to start 5 now. Yeah, these people seem interesting. Definitely not Matt’s “people” I expect.

At the 19:06 mark of episode 2 they talk show our football recruiting coach Vince Farrow. With an F.
Yeah, I was wondering about that. I think the words on the screen said Marrow but they definitely used a F.
That MJ first date at Jeff Ruby's was kinda weird. Didn't fit in.
Lol yeah it was. No wonder he’s single. Dudes got no game.

Yeah, there's a redemption arc starting after his medical incident. They really made him look bad leading up to that. The producers did a great job creating and then resolving tension and conflict.

I watched it all the way through and while I pretty much enjoyed it I found most of it quite sad. Most of the wrestlers reminded me of when I was a young kid and I was convinced that I was going to be the next shortstop for the Chicago Cubs.

I've always wondered if they would try to get Jim Cornette down there...he lives in lville, or what he'd say about it
Well...

I just finished the first episode and am starting the second one. Unless they paint him in a different light, I'm just not seeing him in the heel role. I understand that he's the "new guy" and the "outsider" that they don't trust, but everything he has said so far, at least to me, has made perfect sense. Their company was about to shut it's doors because it wasn't making money. He invested in the business to try to help it out. You can't just pour money into something that is losing money and "hope" everything works out. That's basically putting a band-aid on a bullet wound.

If the narrative changes in the next 56 minutes, I'll give my thoughts, but I'm just not seeing how he is the "bad guy" here. "He just doesn't understand what we do." What's that? Fail? That's the vibe I am getting. And I understand that sentiment. I have been on both sides of it. Failing is a bitch of a pill to swallow.

Just my thoughts after episode 1.

Man. The young chick is some white trash and annoying as ****. Ewww
That is very fair. But let's not kid ourselves. She's cute as hell and has "the look" that could actually make it in this business. She needs to grow up, for sure, but like they said at the start of the documentary, everyone in the business is crazy. LOL

I typed that wording out on a google doc…thought it was good….typed the words in the art and noticed I misspelled something after it was posted on YouTube.

I was pissed I did that. I busted my ass on that Darth Corny

Thoughts after episode two:

-I love Al Snow. I watched him in the 90's and 2000's and thought his gimmick was very clever. He also has a great sense of storytelling and is a great writer and booker of matches. He also does a nice job with timing and event planning. I'm not sure he's the guy you would want in charge of a company, though. He tends to be single minded and still tends to think he is working for a national promotion.
-Matt Jones sometimes reacts inappropriately when he is stressed out. Then again, he is an owner and has that luxury. Still, I would have been nicer in those situations. There is very often no reason to behave like a dick. Like the late great Patrick Swayze taught us in the film, "Road House"...be nice. :)
-That story about the commentator was very sad. I hate that for him. I've been there. It sucks when you are working your ass off and only get to see your kids for a very limited amount of time. Especially if you are divorced.
-This is still a story about a company that was about to close its doors. No one wants to be asked to do more especially when they already feel like they are doing their best. No one wants to lose their job because the company can't justify paying for them. But in the end, everyone, no matter how much they may love their job or no matter how well they think they do it, is expendable in some form or fashion. That's just capitalism. If keeping them means the entire company shuts down and they lose their job anyway, then no one wins in that scenario.

All that being said, I am taking at face value that the investors and owners are actually losing money. If the owners are still paying themselves exorbitant salaries like most of the CEO's of larger corporations do and are trying to cut costs just to be able to continue those salaries, then eff those guys. I don't know the numbers.

I don’t think she’s cute as hell at all. She’s not ugly but not my type at all. I reckon.

I understand. I may have phrased that incorrectly. She has the look that a lot of wrestling fans tend to enjoy looking at. Even that may sound condescending. I don't mean it that way. Hell, Chyna was a big star in the late 90's and Rhea Ripley is probably the biggest female star since Chyna that didn't have famous father. So who knows who will break out and make it big? I'm just saying that typically, the female wrestlers that tend to get opportunities are young, often blonde, are aggressive, tend to be kinda skinny, and have a face that isn't offensive to look at. :)

That was definitely put there to make MJ seem like many people here view him, IMO. Awkward and arrogant. I had read this comment before I started watching the series. I expected it to be longer. (That's what she said?) I meant the scene. :)

Like I said, once I realized this was a Netflix thing, I sort of knew what to expect. The narrative is definitely following the kind of documentary bell curve I have seen in the past. And that's okay. It works. Quite well, actually.

I'm actually a bit surprised no one has accused the filmmakers of having Matt fake his seizure just to play up to the cameras. I suppose that's because it is such a niche' industry and it just came out a couple days ago. No one trusts "the media" anymore. :)

I can't wait to listen to Matt whine about 2 rando trolls on Twitter being mean that he only saw because he searches for that shyt.

I'm on episode 5 now. I'm not going to comment on the story any further because I don't want to be my mom. God love her, but she was the type of person that would tell me to watch The 6th Sense and unintentionally say, "I don't want to spoil anything but he was dead the whole time." 🤣

All I will say is this, from what I have seen, a lot of my initial impressions have turned out to be correct.

I thought it was awesome. I don't normally binge watch things but I did binge watch that. The incident in episode 3 was scary and I agree with the previous poster who said kudos to MJ if he had the opportunity to remove that but didn't. I fell in love with Matt's mom. She seems to be the absolute sweetest lady and I wanted more of her.

Also, Gracie stole the show. We need a spin off of just her. On one of his radio shows, MJ asked who would be a star from the secondary characters. MJ thought his mom would be and I agree she was. Gracie was the brightest secondary star to me. She was awesome.
