National Championship Open Thread

Bama would have lost by less than 17, Young and their receivers would have caused some problems. but, GA had two much for them as well. I think Bama beat Michigan.
Bama vs Michigan, is close because Michigan can do some things to hurt bama

All conferences are top heavy. Preseason, did anyone predict any team other than OSU, MI or PSU to win the B10? Clemson, maybe UNC to win the ACC? OU to win the B12 (they were all wrong on that one)?

Every year, it's the same 6-8 teams that legitimately have a shot. Lately, that number has shrunk now that Clemson has taken a step back. 2, maybe 3 from the SEC. 2 from the B10. Maybe one other but that's it. Everyone else is playing for a NY6 bowl and top 12 ranking. That's the ceiling. To state that the SEC is top heavy and not say the same about every other conference is willfully ignorant.

Looking back at college basketball national championship games, we've had some 15-20 point wins, but we haven't seen an ass-kicking like tonight's football game since the 1990 Runnin Rebels

Must have gotten their looks confused too. Bowers looks twice the size of any defender near him.
#0 Washington-YES!! That kid is the BIGGEST pass catcher I've ever seen. Bigger than the Pope kid that played for UGA a few years back.

#19 Bowers-NO

I mean Bowers is 6’4” 240… yes the others are bigger, but Bowers is big, no doubt.

That was a beatdown for the ages. Over by the middle of the 2nd qtr. Don't know if Bennett will find a spot in the NFL but, he has to go down as one of the best college QB's ever. The ultimate underdawg. Lol

16. 16 is the lowest score any team held the Dawg offense all season. For a team that averaged about 40 points per game this year, 16 is pretty dramatic. 10 points lower than their second lowest output of 26 vs Missou. Not a bad defensive performance for the Cats.

LOL gave up 65 points. We gave these bums 16 points at Commonwealth. We could have beat them if we had better coaches on offense.

Missouri had these guys on the ropes third fourth quarter and let em go.

That Georgia team was not 65 points in the championship good TCU just didn't know what the **** to do

TCU was overmatched, obviously.

This is the “benefit” of the CFP, though.

Historically, TCU beats a team like Michigan and beats it chest and acts like they were denied an opportunity for a national title.

Well, they were given an opportunity to prove it on the field against the best - and they couldn’t.

It wasn’t even competitive.

You know, I think he'll have a long and mostly boring NFL career. He's a game manager, but an exceptionally good one. He'll probably never start in the NFL but I bet he'll be a valuable backup for a long time.

Any team that is about "out scoring teams" from Big 12...has no hope in playoffs. That TCU D looked like UL out there. It was stupid and anyone that watched 5 games from TCU can see. But most people look at Tenn has 2 losses and TCU has 1 loss...so TCU is better. Mindless.

I really have no idea how anybody can argue against sec football with a straight face at this point.

13 of last 17 champions-4 schools

In spite of routinely ‘playing up’-lower place sec teams playing higher finishing teams from other conferences-the sec bowl record in last 12 seasons is 110-68. Second best? Big 12 at 63-61.

11 of last 12 years most first rounders averaging 10 a season in the last 16 drafts. 2x the number from acc and big ten.

16 straight drafts with most picks with the most recent drafts having 40-50% more than the next conference. Remove the ‘best team’ and it still is right there to have the most players drafted now.

Because of the overweight of the SEC in the draft we may see upcoming bowl seasons not be as dominant because of more sit outs but once the playoff comes online that will correct itself some.

Georgia has 66 ...4 and 5 Star players.
66! Of course you're going to win.

I mean damn if you gave Mark stoop 66.... 4 and 5 Star players what do you think he would do?

That team they beat last night had 17.

College football is a joke. It's the same teams every ****ing year and there's one reason:.
No limit on four and five star players. You can just stack that cupboard with every damn five star player there is and pretty much guarantee yourself a playoff spot.

How many four or five star players does Kentucky have? Five maybe 10 if we're lucky.

I'll say this with all the love in my heart:
Fudge college football. Fudge it! Not worth the time or the money to pay attention anymore.

The only reason to have a football team is so you can get some SEC network money.
Do I think we should spend any time trying to build a team when the other team in your division has 66 ...4 and 5-star players? Absolutely not. It's a waste of time.

66... 4 and 5 Star players LOL. It's no wonder. I am no longer a fan of college football after what I saw last night and then when I found out how many 4-5 Star players they have.
It's not fair at all.

Just my opinion…I think Smart has a lot of respect for Stoops. And after looking very sloppy early, Smart basically went very fundamental and conservative. He decided to grind it out, take the victory and get out of town. UGA wasn’t going to give the UK defense the opportunity to potentially steal the game away. They took what they could get, let Stoops shorten the game and just get the W.

It is the only way that you can have even a remote chance of beating a Georgia team with that much talent. Slow the game down limit the possessions and hope for some luck. Other than that you better have it just as much talent as they do or you don't have no chance. They sub five stars for five stars

Agreed. Plus, I think Smart was only going to show what cards he had to. Georgia was eyeing the bigger prize all year. They didn't need 65 points to beat us at Home. If they had used some of those same sets and plays against UK, they'd have score 30 or more. They just didn't need to.
Not saying Georgia played a great game against the Cats. They obviously didn't. But again, they didn't need to. And that's the mark of a great team.

Opinions....

It's obvious that UGA is now the standard in College Football. They aren't UCLA hoops in the 60's and 70's, but the current standard.
Ohio St. played their "A" game and still lost to UGA. Kirby should have milked the clock at the end of the 2nd and 4th quarters. It almost cost him the title.
If the job of the committee is to get the best 4 teams fine, but only wins and losses won't always do that. Most deserving team???
Every time I see a TCU type team talking about, they should be in based on record, I just SMH. Play an 8 game SEC schedule and see how hard it is to go 6-2 or better.
TCU also poked the bear about not getting to play a non-conference opponent during conference play.
If I counted correctly... the SEC is 14-3 in CFP games against non-SEC opponents. The scoring margins overall are comical.
It's only going to get worse. Freeze will get Auburn to play better. Texas and OU are on the way. UT and SC will continue to attract talent.
NIL is an arms-race to the top. Can it be sustained over time? I don't think so.

-not how this works. It amazes me how some of our own fans can't give any credit to UK.

-our defense is good. It matches up against ugas offense well...if Kirby could've scored 30+ he would've...see the tcu, Oregon, msu, uscjr, vandy, GA tech, Florida and auburn games for reference.

-The defense was the one positive aspect of this past season...it should be embraced not belittled.

Of course.

Georgia will go 15-0 and win the title without having to play Alabama.

At least they beat them last year.
My not so humble opinion - Bama is lucky they didn’t play us in the playoffs. They don’t have the skill outside to beat us. That would have been one more seed of doubt as to whether Saban really still has it.

Weird take. How many 4-5 star players does UKBB have on its roster…better yet, how many non 4-5 star players on the roster excluding walk-ons?

Fair? So you now want to dictate that a school can only sign so much talent?
UGA didn’t used to have 66 4-5 star players. They worked their ass off to get better, developed their program to the point where they were attractive to top talent. It used to be a rarity for UKFB to sign any…maybe 1 4 star per year… there were maybe 4 or 5 on the roster total. But Stoops has started changing that and we now have 25-30 and that may be low.
Someone will eventually knock UGA off the throne. You don’t get there by giving up.

The best game for Alabama to play UGA would have been the semis, IMO. In Atlanta, where Alabama always beats them.

Alabama has won the last 6 meetings in the state of Georgia.

Hopefully, Georgia ends that streak soon.
