NASCAR thread

NASCAR keeps catering to the TV money and going away from what it's fans want. Most fans I know like racing under the lights.

"On Thursday, Martinsville Speedway announced that its spring race, set for April 9, has been shortened to 400 laps. The speedway in small-town Virginia attributed changing the race's length to accommodating a 7:30 p.m. ET start time. The length of the track's other race, the Xfinity 500 in the fall, remains unaltered.

Martinsville's spring race marks the first of a trio of Saturday night races on the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series schedule. With a gradual move away from night races and towards racing on Sunday afternoons, the only Saturday night races on the current Cup Series calendar are Martinsville's spring race, the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona in August, and the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway in September."

NASCAR.com has a Power Ranking for Hall of Fame cases among active drivers and below is what they said about Bubba Wallace.

"Wallace, it could be argued, already warrants a placement in the Hall of Fame if he were to walk away today given his overall impact on the sport. Still, some more racing accomplishments wouldn't hurt his case, having just picked up his first win a few months ago. As he enters a second season with a beefed-up 23XI Racing, wins could come in droves for him over the next few years and for all we know he's a champion by the end of the decade. That would certainly make him a lock".

In the same link they mention that Austin Dillon's Daytona and Coca Cola 600 wins along with winning a championship in the truck and Xfinity series isn't enough to get him in. So what warrants Bubba's placement in the HOF? Is it his lone rain out victory last season? Maybe it's his saying a noose was tied in his garage stall when it turned out to be a loop in the pull rope that had been there for a couple of years? Is it because he was able to get Michael Jordan to become a car owner? I mean what other driver has been handed a spot in the HOF based on something besides his driving ability? I don't think Austin Dillon is HOF worthy but between the 2 he has accomplished way more on the track and both are drivers so that should be all that matters.

Story hear

Racism still alive and well in nascar apparently.

Did you read the article? It said it could be argued that Wallace has done enough by breaking the redneck barriers that have dominated nascar for decades to deserve a spot, not that he should be a stone cold lead pipe lock. It said he probably needs to win a bunch of races to be worthy of a spot.

If you hate the sport so much for giving a black guy a chance, maybe you should stop watching.

Yes I read the article and if it's about breaking barriers then you already have Wendell Scott who was the first African American to not only race in NASCAR (1961) but win a race (1964). So he had already broken barriers. What barriers has Bubba broke? Well NASCAR did ban the rebel flag at races and that's about it and accuse someone of tying a noose in the garage which turned out to be a lie. If it's also about breaking barriers why are no women in the HOF? This isn't about breaking barriers for them or for the article, it's about showing their woke now.

Sorry Creed I was probably a bit out of line here. I'm not a Bubba fan myself. Yes, he got a cheap win last year (which a lot of all time greats have gotten rain shortened wins) but he has done nothing else to establish himself. You're right that there are other trailblazers who are more deserving right now. Bubba is a young guy and has plenty of money behind him. He has every chance to make a real impact. If he does, he does. I'm indifferent to him as a driver. He's got plenty of opportunity to change minds.

Wallace drives like me at Bristol on Nascar 98 for Playstation. Just run into the back of everybody and wreck them to pass.

I’ve been a NASCAR fan my whole life. I’ve also been a dirt racing fan my whole life. There is no comparison. Dirt Late Model racing is so much better, by a mile. If any of you NASCAR fans want to experience DLM racing, just let me know. No matter what city, county, or state you live in, I can direct you to the next local, regional or national race you’d be interested in. You won’t regret it. And you’ll laugh at NASCAR afterwards.

Excited to watch the duels tonight. Today was the day in my childhood that I always came down with a one day stomach bug. Was the weirdest thing.

Ready to see how this new car will draft in a real race. Although I'm sure guys will not be racing hard at all. I read where several big teams did not bring a back up car with them. Of course if they junk their car then they will get a car to Daytona, fast. But, with the supply issue seems like teams would be in a bad spot if they wreck two cars this week.

Solid last pick. I think Kez is in for a very long, frustrating year.

Logano just can’t help himself from throwing a moronic block and taking himself and other cars out. Dude is such an idiot.

It just seemed like it was difficult to pass. It's going to be hard to get shuffled to the rear of a pack and be able to work your way back to the front within a few laps.

He had to make that decision based on being a car owner when he retires not on his chances of winning. Roush hasn't been competitive in a decade,
I guess this didn't age well 🤣 but if those duals are any indicator maybe he made the right decision. However plate races can be won by just about anyone as proven by guys whose only career victory's came on plate races.

Yes it did.

These races were just better back the early to mid 2000's when they had close to 60 cars showing up to try and make the show. I think lack of cars is another factor in the boringness and difficulty to create a pass. It did seem like when guys were willing to back up to the car behind them they would get a decent run,

Hopefully more cars will make a better race on Sunday. Except for Logano wrecking, they were just fast parades of pretty new cars.

Having been to a few races, I know 190 mph isn't slow, but it sure seems like it at Daytona. Given all of the safety stuff that has been introduced in the past 21 years, I'd like to see them open it up a bit more at Daytona and Talladega. Just for kicks. If 2/3 of the field ends up wrecked, then go back to what it is now.

Hoping Keselowski was just a fluke.

Very happy that racing is back on the TV.
