More potentially bad news about Diallo

This board is not an indication of how most fans feel. People are getting tired of the missed opportunities. You get bashed if you mention it on here.

The hell with people on here. All they say is 4 final 4's, missed opportunities is right UK and KU both have missed and people need to not act like Cal is all great. 1 title to show for it.

You two couldn't suck any worse.

In some ways its not different
If Diallo has a weakness he doesnt want exposed
Giles weakness was his knees, Diallo's may be his shot
Or his handle
The #1 thing that would make him irrelevant would be his handle. Think James Young. At the end of the season Monk was starting to look like he couldn't create for himself either. Wouldn't be surprised if he slips in the draft.

What I don't understand with a few posters on this site it is always the same ones that have to get on and always be BITTER! We all knew with the Diallo situation that he could possibly head to the NBA. Diallo was talked about before coming to Kentucky about how he was going to get to the NBA. Diallo went in without hiring an agent to see get the feedback to where he would be drafted in 2017 NBA Draft. We have heard how awesome of an athlete and basketball player Diallo is and how great of a player he could be in the NBA. My only problem with this with Coach Cal's dribble drive offense with the talent Diallo is right now it wouldn't have taken him long to learn and we could had another huge threat in our 3 guard offense with Fox, Monk, and Diallo. This could have helped us getting to the Final Four when we have Fox in foul trouble and Briscoe and Mulder not hitting from outside during the 1st half of North Carolina game. I would have used Diallo after a couple of weeks learning the offense and could have really helped us on the offense. Like I said earlier am I not bitter and we all knew this could happen with Diallo being a 5* player and everyone saying how good his offense was when Diallo played that he would give the NBA a try. I just wished now Coach Cal would have given him a shot to play during February and March.

Bye Felicias. You two, make a nice couple.
Not that there is anything wrong with that...

Shut up we get talent to leave here I mean Johnson/Twins/Briscoe go pro with 2 years left. Ulis should still be here and Davis won us a title.

You are exactly right, the wanna be's have hurt much more than the elite ones - they screw up recruiting for the next season.

Tyler is an exception - his accolades were not going to get higher, neither was he.

Who has more titles in that time frame? Duke and UConn. Duke during Cal's first year and 2015 when they got lucky we lost Poy to an injury and we had trouble matching up with Wisconsin. So basically we have more final 4s then any other team we have finished higher than our seeding 5 of 8 seasons one of which was the NIT season we lost our at the time projected number one draft pick. The other 2 the John Wall team went ice cold in the elite 8 and last season where they misseaded us and stuck us having to play IU second round. Not one tourney game has been lost due to youth in fact if WCS doesn't get hurt in 2014 we have 2 titles and UConn one most likely. Same with Poy and 2015 so basically both teams with 2 titles to our one benefitted directly by us having players get hurt. So instead of insulting people and telling people to shut up back up your argument?

Aren't Bamba and Diallo good friends? If so, Cal knew this and took a chance on Diallo becuase he thought it would help get Bamba on board. Sadly, the whole thing might fall apart and Bamba might even be waiting to see if Diallo is coming back before he comes here.

Has nothing to do with being scared and everything to do with being smart. Harry Hilew should have been smart and sat out the whole year, if he did he would have been a top 5 pick. Playing in the scrimmage doesn't help unless he straight dominates and that's not likely. Hell, Christmas from Syracuse dominated and still either went late second or undrafted that year (I think he was undrafted)

He's no more scared then all the lotto guys who won't play since it won't help their stock

IF TRUE, this kid sure seems scared of actually having to play and compete. Wonder if he plans on sitting out of the summer league as well?

I have to think Cal was caught off guard here. It looks like he may have been fooled by this kid.
Not Cal's first mistake; and I am sure, not his last.
IMO Cal has learned and changed from past coaching/game planning/ player errors. I hope he learns from this.
If he doesn't, all the Cal haters won't have to worry...he will be his own demise.

Different, though. Scouts have a full season of college game film on all of those guys.

They have a handful of HS games from November and December with Diallo.

If somebody is telling him that he's a top 20 pick, I get it (and he'll be gone, BTW). But if he's a fringe first rounder? Not sure it's a smart play to sit out potential game action.

I was thinking the same thing.Of course it's smart for Monk and Fox but Diallo is sure no first round lock.He didn't even finish his senior year in high school so I can't see a team taking him first round without at least seeing if his 3 point shot has improved as has been rumored.

You're just mad Ulis made more money this year than you'll make in your lifetime. Let that sink in. It's gotta sting.

Wow except Cal knew he has been quoted as saying he knew. I knew everything that is happening because it was discussed when kid came on board in Jan. I don't grasp how so many people act like nobody knew this was going to happen it's just nuts. Even Lee went to the combine it is no more a good sign as a bad sign that he chose the option to not play at the combine like I said option he still may very well play we don't know.

If he comes back, he should be welcomed with open arms. The "screw him I hope he doesn't come back" people are the whiny folks who just love complaining, same types who say they don't want a recruit who is taking too long to make up his mind. They didn't want to date that hot chick anyway, she probably was too stuck up and dumb for them.
Excuse some of us for wanting players to actually play games here before entering the draft (especially when they were available to play). You are prob the type fan that if Cal said the Earth was rectangular you would believe it.

I maybe in the minority here, but I don't think that means anything. Like most of sick of the waiting game. He was the number 1 shooting guard and scouts know he's going to be a pro eventually, so being invited to the combine means nada. There was what 183 players that declared? If he's smart he will get his evaluation and come back and get the lottery pick he deserves. If gen leaves now, he's looking at late first round at best.

I feel so sorry for you. Cry a few more tears. Should make you feel better.

Yeah. That's clearly the case. You either have to overreact and throw a hissy fit like a teenage girl, or never question anything.

I'm not going to be one on here bashing or hating on the kid, but if he leaves without playing a game by his own decision (unlike Enes who wanted to play for us) he's not a cat.

All of the early quotes I saw, were along the lines of "he will be at uk next season..." from both sides.

Getting a look-see to find out needed improvement areas is not a big deal

IF, the kid's plan was to always leave THAT is an issue...and I don't think Cal would have signed off on that...but I've been wrong before.

I'm just tired of all of this about Diallo. IF he come back fine & if he stays ...............WHO'S NEXT.

Yeah they could. They could be the idiots that are defending the potential none-and-done approach to building a winning basketball team.

Only an idiot or a hater would think this is going to become a thing. In Cal's history at UK, we've had 2 players I believe come mid-season. Wynyard and Diallo. Wynyard was offered to go in a game and refused as well. He also didn't declare for the draft. The only way this could become a thing is if Cal actively sought out players in Diallo's situation. 99% are normal players who couldn't do this if they wanted to. Worrying about this repeating is pointless.

Maybe I do not understand the situation. How can they draft anyone in the first round and spend millions of dollars on them without seeing him compete.Since he went to UK he only had an opportunity to play just a hand full of games in HS this year? What is the NBA going to base their decision on?

That's my thinking as well. Surely the NBA executives realize this. He didn't play while he was here and he doesn't want to play at the Invite? Are the NBA guys just YouTubing him?

Maybe we should send them some of the "BallisLife" highlight tapes. He looks pretty good in those.

The more this plays out, the more I think he's coming back, IMO. If he was truly serious on working up the draft board for this year, he would want to be playing. That's the only way he moves up. Maybe he does in some individual workouts but even then, he's probably going to be asked to play with the other players on the roster that are there. So, either way I think he would have to and want to play. Sounds to me like he just wants to be evaluated on some workouts and come back to make the lottery next year. Unless he gets a promise from a team for the 1st round (which I doubt), I think he returns.

I've been wrong a time or two in my life though, so this may be the third time. :sunglasses:

I don't have a problem with Diallo personally. I hope he succeeds in whatever he chooses to do. However, I don't understand why he wouldn't want to play and show what he's got. I mean he didn't finish senior year in high school, didn't play in college and wasn't going to the combine if he had to play. I would want to show how good I was to increase my stock. Surely the NBA people have noticed this as well. I would be leary to invest $$ in someone I hadn't seen play in a long time. Things could have changed from mid high school until now. Just asking. Like I said, I wish thw best for him, but as a Cat fan, the secrecy and questions can be hard to take.

Requesting to not participate both during the season and now at NBA scouting events begs criticism towards a players heart and courage.

If I were a NBA scout I would pass until the player proved something to me on the court against similar competition. Why hire a guy who is afraid to work?

For everyone bitching about how Diallo could of helped us to a final four...STFU!!! We can't go back in time, it's irrelevant. We all know that Cal made this Briscoe's team. It would of taken a miracle for him to break that rotation and have all the egos be okay with it. Cal knows what he is doing. He has proven time and time again. We can't win every national Championship, not with the way college athletics are today. Cal has enemies in the NCAA, more than you think. He always over achieves most of the time. We consistently get bad seedings and horrible officiating. Yes, I like to have more NCs, but it takes more than talent, coaching, and experience. It takes LUCK!!! Lots of luck to make it to the Championship game. Despite that, we win. We play one of the most exciting types of basketball out there. Be grateful for the wins we have, wait til the roster is set. Quit bashing young men before they play here, put yourself in their shoes, or their parents. I would not believe one person here would pass up the money, or 70k a yr for 3 yrs. If you want to do something about it, marry a tall chick, have a baby, train said baby in basketball, get him recruited, then you have say. Otherwise belly ache and be jealous of other people's opportunities.

To all naysayers pissed because an 18 yo from the Bronx who lived in the projects wants to realize a better life for his family, again STFU! I do only for myself and family, not for what a fanbase wants.
I am a fan since the late 80's, the only teams that remind me of the run we have been having is Duke early 90's, Pitino 93_98, Donovan sometime in 2000's and now Cal 2010 to present.
If you can't enjoy what we have in a program now, We are the TOP program in all the landscape. Live your small, unappreciative lives in silence.
...or just quit saying the same thing over and over again without any evidence. Put some out there, wait til 5/24 to bash Diallo,
Quit questioning his character and his families. It's a huge putoff for our own so called fans denigrating this young man.

If Diallo makes it through this week without hiring an agent, I feel good about the chances of him returning.

Unlike Briscoe, the twins, Johnson, Poythress, Humphries, Lamb, and a few other guys who left UK early, Diallo has real lottery potential. I’d put him in that camp with Teague, Orton, and Skal in terms of guys who could have used another year from a draft perspective.

There’s real sustainable money for a young man if he’s drafted in the top 20, and especially in the lottery. I will make little to no sense if he stays in only to hear his name called in the 40s or 50s of the draft.

I agree; however, if Diallo stays in the draft, I’m not sure what the benefit was for Cal to openly speak about Diallo learning the college game and obtaining a head start with the next class. Cal’s strengths lie in reading the terrain. I can’t buy the idea that he didn’t know Diallo going pro now was a serious threat of happening. In such a case, just remain mum. The blowback in January would look like nursery school drama in comparison to what will happen if Diallo essentially tweets out “Thanks BBN, but I’m staying in the draft” in two or three weeks.
