More news- La Familia Club

Cal could win three more titles and there would still be the negative fans bashing him. Some of you all are weird lmao, there must secretly be Duke fans on this board
That first sentence should sun and tell you why people are mad. CALs tenure and especially the last 5 years is could have and should have, he could have done things and he should have changed some things he didn’t and Kentucky slipped and fell off a little. The NIl club thing is a good move from cal, but this offseason has been a disaster for him up until now. If he gets reeves and somto he deserves credit but he also deserves criticism as well

Name one coach that could step in and from day one recruit at the level Cal has over the years? Hell Cals first year at Kentucky he turned the program around, no other coach is doing that. I don’t care what you say…..

Been in the works for months huh...ok.
Glad we might be able to tap into some wealthy NBA players to contribute to our NIL. If it benefits the program then get it done.

Recruiting is only half the job. I’m not one of those who says he should win every year that ridiculous, but calipari should have more than one championship. And other little things that he has done, like being to stubborn to change over the years. Only having one shooter, not filling out the roster, no inbounds plays, recruiting athletes instead of skillset. Cal was/has been good here but lately his methods have gone stall. College basketball is changing, the la famila NIL thing was a good step in the right direction but now he has to change some things on the court

And what they say about Cal and UK while explaining their decision not to.
You are just a negative, sour human. Cal would NEVER release who gives and doesn't. He is what you know nothing about, LOYAL. It is exactly why he did it HIS way. People he knows and trust. He doesn't have to kiss the boosters asses, go to their weddings, parties, etc and pretend to be their friends to raise the boosters self egos.
It's really simple, Cal is reaching out to his former players he was loyal to, and in return they are paying him back by being loyal to the man they trusted their futures with. If you really think those guys do not love and respect Cal, you are even dumber than I though. With you, I wouldn't be a damn bit surprised.
Love it or hate it (lol) Cal is here for a while. Sorry Cal haters.

Cal is behind the curve again! Next year is looking to be a throw away year since he whiffed on everyone in the portal.

It's about time we tapped on some of these NBA guys. Let's be real, they got a HECK of a bargain on their end. Play 1 year of college ball, and we will push you into the NBA so you can makes 10s of millions, while we put wins and titles 2nd?

Like that's a pretty damn good deal and I think it's time for Cal and UK to come collect a bit on their initial investment.

10s of millions ? That amount is a average NBA player per year. Lol, They respect Cal enough to repay him and his loyalty to them by being loyal back. Loyalty is a 2 way street.

La no more 9-16 Familia club. Seriously, though. UK has money in it's former players and definitely in alums. Hopefully it becomes a tremendous resource for us.

My point is we really do not know anything. This could be a concept mentioned over dinner in January. Now in June he calls a few players and people he knows who loosely commit money to he cause. I absolutely do think he could have spun up a “talking point” in a weekend let alone two weeks. Do not forget we are talking about the master of smoke and mirrors.

Now this may materialize over time as real thought and effort is put into it, but this 100% is a man in the ocean throwing himself a life preserver.

Do you remember when it was that stuff started getting heated regarding improvements to JCC? Wasn't it around the time we went on road and beat UT and Capiluto traveled with team. He (Cal) had just been in a big pissing contest with Barnhardt....that timeline may add up. That is when I first heard him mention players and raising money to renovate JCC.

I dunno if I'm right on timeline but that is the first thing I thought of when I heard this date.

I would buy that it was a recent pivot from that. But I do not believe he started anything regarding a collective in January. Probably the truth is “I’ve gotten myself in a corner. How do I save face? Hey that money I was talking about for a new practice facility, maybe it can be used for the players.” And it happened in this last week.

I'm not as skeptical as you but get your point.

I always wondered why Cal didn't do something like this.So many former UK millionaires in the NBA...
I just said this earlier today, We hVe a massive player base that benefited and made generational wealth, now they should donate and help the next generation of UK players play and reach their goals.

I have to give him credit, though it should have come much sooner. No one really cares how it works, just get money to players, and this seems like a good step with the added bonus of some star power.

Calipari's had this slush fund in the works for awhile. He recently commented about the billionaire NBA contracts of former players and the $30M he had raised for a practice facility. His own fault if he couldn't come up with a little creative bookkeeping to make this work....others have.

Who cares what level he recruits at when the team misses tournaments, first round exits, and NIT appearances. Thinking number 1 recruiting classes trumps winning is ridiculous. Give me a coach that actually coaches and wins with lesser talent and I would be happier.

One of the first developments that has gotten me excited about the near future for UK basketball for a while, along with hiring Welch.

The irony of it all is that when he said the draft night was the biggest night in UK history, he might’ve been accidentally right since it was the beginning of sending so many to the lottery and max contracts and now having NBA Cats donating back to this collective lol. The circle of life.

Or a desperate man that shit the bed everywhere else.
the deal is that you can make more NIL at UK , and we have people that have made a lot and the most …but not much is ‘guaranteed ‘ . It’s like would you take a job for a $60K salary or $30k salary plus commission , even knowing the last guy made $100 K including the commission , many would take the $60k . We’re fixing that now

“We’re fixing that?” What took you so long to donate and help Cal set this up? I give him credit for doing it but shouldn’t this have been setup when coach K was on his goodbye tour? I bet this doesn’t help the winning column long term. He has made UK a low class attraction to players. You can pay some but thinking the money is going to change the trajectory of this program is idiotic. He can’t win even with great talent. He has 1 title with all the talent he has had and everyone has figured out how to counter him now. His 1 trick doesn’t work even with superior talent. All he is doing is plugging a hole in the damn he can’t plug the other glaring holes. Basically he just s trying to buy his way out of the hole he has dug but at the end of the day he still has to win and he is outdated and the playbook is out on him.

Could he be a legendary coach? Absolutely he could be but has proven he isn’t willing to change and he is narcissistic which will make him never change.

Edit: Don’t get me wrong nothing would make me happier for the program and players than watching them winning a national championship even if it means he buys himself another 5 years but that wasn’t the topic at hand.

so basically Anthony davis or booker can now help us reel kids in. This is actually genius. I've thought that this would be the perfect way for Cal to use NIL but I just assumed it wasn't legal. No one else seems to be utilizing it. Good on Cal for this. I bet they crack down on NBA players participating but until they do, lets get it.
you don't think others are going to use this......Duke, UNC, Kansas
If this was the route taken, why not keep it quiet

That's fine. Most teams don't have the nba pool to matter. I'm all for all the bluebloods dominating n the world of NIL.

The final four this year sucked. Don't want that being the norm.
