I don't think thats true though...those idiots are representative of idiots that all of us deal with in our regular lives that think the same things...the people that show up on your Twitter and Facebook feed saying the same thing...addressing them is representative of the others...and more importantly it is BECAUSE of them them that we often get a bad name. I can think of one for sure, but I won't mention him by name.
My opinion is that Calipari is the #1 recruiter in the nation. He's also the #1 motivator of elite talent in the nation. And, he's at least top 10 among in-game coaches in the nation. No, he's not the best in game coach, but he's up there. The trouble, as I say, is that everyone compares and critiques Calipari's bench coaching against his other attributes, not against his peers.
Now, put the entire package together- recruiting, motivating, bench coaching, Calipari is right there with Coach K in my mind. I think Coach K is a superior bench coach, and there are others as well, like Izzo and perhaps a couple others. But considering everything, he's right there at the top.
I like IL's entire post and I generally think he is on the money. I honestly don't know enough about the game to truly second guess Cal's in game decisions or adjustments. To a lay person like myself it does seem as though he does not do as much from the bench as other top coaches. Like he said on the show most of his coaching in game is coaching effort and "two hands"! I think that is where (in light of a bad loss) some can get the feeling that there is something lacking. Cal's post season results have been above reproach but he has taken some bad L's during conference play that are puzzling. In fairness, what if he pounded all of the SEC opponents but instead dropped the UL and Duke games which would not be bad losses to most?
Mainly I hate when SEC bottom feeders beat us. I think we all hate that. No one wants Cal gone it just stinks to lose especially when we can go from almost beating KU to getting punked by UT. Team is schizto this year.

His "pay fo secrets" website " wasn't too secretive with the blowup of social media and the hell hole of recruiting the last few tubby and billy years. It was no secret we weren't getting anyone worth a flip. KSR blew up after the Cal got here. We as a fan base wanted 24/7 info. Ksr it's it all in one spot. The whole Calipari saga and monster recruiting classes has fed his website and radio show. Now podcasts. Matt struck gold at the perfect time. UK + Calipari+ a starving Fanbase = final fours , Championships. ,Merchandise ,media opportunities , talk of CBB ect. Whether it's outside the lines , college basketball analyst , sec network or whatever matt is the go to guy for 99%. It is what it is. Name me one other person that has that clout
I'm not sure how you could read that thread by BertStared and come to the conclusion he was one of our fans. He had 7 posts and was wearing a Florida shirt, yet was presented as "crazy over the top UK fan on message board"
I wouldn't trade Cal for any coach in the business. But, as I've stated MANY times before, the one big mistake I think he makes (my opinion, but I think it's accurate) is not using any zone defense. That's really the only complaint I have. I know he just doesn't like zone defenses, but they are definitely useful in given games and matchups. That point cannot be argued by anyone. At least not successfully.
True but if you mention that someone might be a troll because they only have 7 posts, you can count on being attacked.
I like Matt Jones and his show. However, I think he crossed a line today. If I were an administrator on this site I would ban his posting privileges. If he had a problem with posters on this site, he should have posted it on this site. This will negatively affect rivals business in this forum. The people who should really be pissed are the people who run this site. Matt basically just walked all over them for his own benefit.
You don't have to call it out. Why not just leave it off the list to be on the safe side? Maybe because that only leaves 2 examples.
A distinction might be made here between sincere criticism vs. the troublemakers that get their kicks by stirring things up. It's hard to tell the difference sometimes. If those offering constructive criticism framed their messages as such, they would distinguish themselves from the 'baiters' out there. Through the dust and the static of emotion and limitations of written text, it seems the majority of the criticism leveled at Calipari is sincere at it's core, if not well thought out or communicated properly. The result is this gives the troublemakers the appearance of being a bigger part of the population than they really are.

Finally, someone actually gets it. I've always thought Matt is incredibly talented and great at what he does. But I've never understood why he feels the need to put down others in order to build himself up. His work is good enough to stand on its own; he doesn't need to step on others to make himself stand out.
But he's as much politician and businessman (they are pretty much the same thing these days) as anything else. He's taking a page right out of the political handbook - identify an enemy, rally the the troops against them, and use the anger to make money. It this case, the stated objective is to call out stupid fans. OK, everyone can get on board with that, right? After all, who's in favor of stupidity?
But it was more than that. It was those message boards are where the "dark side" of the fanbase hang out. If you want to be where the "cool kids" are, it's right here at KSR. If you don't want to be lumped in with those crazies, you should probably stay away from those message boards. And if you do go there, look out, because you just might get called out on air and mocked by the cool kids, I mean "real fans."

I enjoy listening to Matt Jones in the morning, I did feel as though his comments made him look as though he looks down on message board users. I know that there are the ones who, when given the veil of anonymity show a darker side than they normally would. Think for a minute about all the others who are gracious and kind to each other, even though they don't really have to be. I like this website because it gives me an opportunity to socialize with lots of people, I work with the mentally disabled through out the day, and take care of my autistic child in the evening, I don't have time to go out and have a social life. I also suffer from ADHD, this make having a face to face conversation difficult, but when on here I can slow down and formulate thoughts, and think about what I want to say instead of just blurting out the first thing that comes into my head. Like I said I do enjoy listening to Kentucky Sports Radio but I felt like Matt made comments today suggesting that he is better than us.
Again, people hear what they want to hear. He praised THIS message board and said the "crazies" are a very small percentage on THIS board. And there is a "dark side" to message boards. To deny that is naive.
I'm glad @MattJonesKSR called out an idiot like @ZaytovenCat. He/she deserved to be.
Anonymity allows people to say things they would not otherwise say, plus we are heavily trolled. The combination gets us to where we are. A few complainers are ex-5th grade coaches who won the 1994 championship by going zone. Hard to argue with that.

That was not my intention at all...and since I am the person that said it, I don't think I am being naive.
I wanted to note a set of fan beliefs that I have a problem with it and then counter them. They came from this board and yes, I do think the "dark side" of our fan base tends to hang out on message boards...but as I said on there, that doesn't mean that 95% aren't great folks.

It's one thing to mention that there are some crazies on this board who go overboard, but if he is going to call out specific usernames, he should have the guts to come here and call them out, so they can have the chance to respond. Otherwise, calling out specific usernames on his show is cowardice.

The fools he called out on the air have the ability to call into his show and debate it with him on the air. Being he would likely crush them, I suspect they will remain quiet.
Cal is right in the middle of one of the greatest Final Four runs in NCAA history, and yet he is having some of our fans wishing he wasn't here.
