Marcus Santos Silva > Haarms

You don't sound like a broken record. One assumes a record made sense before it was broken.
It makes a lot of sense to me you need to take your Cal glasses off for it to make sense to you. We used to get the Davis, Noel, WCS , KAT, and Bam but now we settle for EJ , Richards , Sestina , Travis , and Haarms if we get him there is a big talent gap in the first set of names I named to the latter. The latter matches up better with all of the following talent:
How about we bring Tubby back and sign Bobby Perry, Sheray Thomas, and Lukasz Obrzut?
This is why I said we need to change of the coaching staff because it's getting stale!

The worst are the fans who have lowered their expectations. That's partially why we're where we are. It's allowed. It's gone from "come on down big feller" in 2015 with so much arrogance and pride attached to it, to the same thing being said to 3-4 star players who don't want to be here. I think the fanbase in general has fallen head over heels for Camp Cal and Draft Night. It's going to be so, so different when the next coach comes here. At the rate things have gone the past five years:

Weaker and weaker schedules
Not bring able to put away poor teams
Boring style of offense
Good athletes leaving UK earlier than ever
So much emphasis put on the NBA
Earlier flameouts in the NCAA tournament

, I don't think the next coach has all that much to worry about.

If you go watch the videos of Silva dunking on KSR, dude is a flat beast. If we can only take 1, I want him.

@MdWIldcat55 look at this

Looked up Silva stats from last year. Sported a 26pt 22rb (10 offesnive) vs Rhode Island two years ago.

13 games of double digit boards last year.

17 rebounds vs. Dayton last year

I would take both but this guy has over 600 career rebounds. Pretty impressive.

Haarms 445 in 10 more games than Silva.

Per 40 Haarms is 14.9ppg and 8.7rb
Per 40 Silva is 17.4ppg and 13.1rb

Length could be an issue in SEC like it was for Reid...seem like similar builds.

But what about blocks?? I’m thinking that may be more important for our squad next year.

wouldn’t mind getting Silva though, think he looks SOLID.

Yeah the coaching staff that brought in Boston and Clarke really suck! Hate it they could only bring in two top 10 guys! Unreal

Especially the guy who publicly is kissing his boss's ass and blew a gifted opportunity to be a HC this offseason.

A possible 6’7” average skill set versus a 7’3” average skill set. I think there’s a clear winner there. Skills can improve. Size cannot.

You take both of you can get them but hopefully one will picks us
IMO we needed a thick power forward a combo guard and a shot blocked
Mintz - Haarms & Silva punch all the buttons
Ware & Jackson are lean & young
This could shape up to be a great roster

My preference is Haarms. 7'3 guy who paired with Jackson would allow the defense to play in a manner that you can hug perimeter and funnel things inside to rim protection and has experience in big games.

VCU guy has some nice numbers but if all is even, give me the guy who played in Big 10, is 7'3 vs 6'7 and brings a dimension that fits with how the team will need to play next year to be their best--DDM--mobile and athletic. Team need to use their speed/athleticism with next year's group. Get up and down.

Haarms is a rim protector, Silva a below the rim banger who loves to rebound and stay in the paint. Only issue would be when we stretch the floor, Silva would kill us. His defender would play off of him to help drives. Haarms can keep them honest.

Haarms is a better shot blocker
Silva is a better rebounder

We could use both of them , they would compliment each other, both have had good games against power 5 programs.

I would live to get both these guys since they are so different

He averaged about 1.8 blocks per 40 minutes

Hmm and a quick search says Haarms averages 4.1 blocks per 40...

Again I def would love to have him if Haarms stalls, or chooses elsewhere.

And maybe I’m wrong, maybe we just need solid rebounding and can trust Jackson with Silva for rim protection but If we have to choose one, isn’t that more of what we need?

I didn't say Boston and Clarke suck they're wings plus they haven't played a college basketball game yet but who's your point guard and who's your big guy? The 2 most important positions on a basketball team PG and F/C!

Absolutely, I've said it repeatedly, if Haarms blocks 2-3 shots a game we probably bring home the trophy.

I'd keep Payne because he's been here since the beginning and recruiting didn't go south until Orlando Antigua and Rod Strickland left. The ones that need to be shown the door is Joel and Barbee needs to change the staff up a bit.

But remember, LSU did not have a kid over 6’6 in their starting lineup. They were a small athletic team last year.
This player is not so small. Watford started the game and scored LSU's first basket. Might want to get your facts right before you make a statement like that.
FORWARD 6'9" 235 LBS

TRENDON WATFORD
Played 33 minutes against VCU and scored 11 points.

"I do not want to beat a dead horse, but I am going to beat a dead horse." Sounds like you are never satisfied. I get it, we have had a couple not so pleasing years the last few years, but its the nature of college basketball today. Cal works as hard or harder than any coach in the game. The is a reason we do not get a "FEW" of these elite guys, but it is not like we are coming in #22 or #25 in the nation recruiting. Everyone is going after these guys now. Some of the elite guys want to be THE guy, some schools will do what ever it takes to get a few of them. Thins the pool out, but I have seen why we do not get some, and I am completely fine with it.

It would be difficult for this to sound dumber. You do realize that we have the number one class coming in and and simply looking to find the best fit for a final spot to rounds out our team. We lost almost the entire team and we are still not in need of anything to have a very solid team next year.

Not trying to change the subject but the new Braketology is out and now we are the 4 in the East other notables in the region
Villinova-1
Duke-2
West Virginia-3
Indiana-7

Some notable performances from VCU transfer Marcus Santos-Silva this season:

– 22 points, 11 rebounds vs. Tennessee
– 17 points, 11 rebounds and 4 steals vs. LSU
– 19 points vs. Purdue. Matt Haarms managed just 6 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals before fouling out in 21 minutes.

So Silva and Haarms played against each other and Silva vastly out played Haarms

Interesting

MSS also averaged 12 points and 13 rebounds in two games vs. consensus national player of the year Obi Toppin and Dayton.

Position aside.

17-11 vs LSU
19-2 vs Purdue
22-11 vs Tennessee
12-9 vs Dayton

Those are his junior year.

How about his sophomore year

10-16 against Texas
8-10 vs Virginia

He's performed solidly against better competition and he's a tremendous rebounder at 6ft 7. His fit would actually be very good. He doesn't shoot the 3 ball which keeps him close to the paint which keeps him around the glass. With Clarke and Boston coming in there will be chances at long rebounds where this guy will feast at times.

Interesting player.

Can't recruit for crap! They have the #1 class for 2021, can't they do better?
