Malik Newman announcing decision on Friday

that has to cross the minds of Cat fans, I think a Milder signing would end any chance at Newman, but if Newman should opt for UK(don't think he will) would that end our intrest in Mulder?Would we take them both if no one else comes?

The staff has to either know Newman is going elsewhere or they want Mulder as just another option because Mulder's visit is already set.

I tend to think a guy like Mulder isn't going to interfere with any of these final guys because he's just going to be a bit piece (hopefully). You don't bring guys like that in to be main cogs unless every other option falls apart. He and his people likely know the deal.

We should grab Mulder no matter what happens. Has a couple of years left, provides depth and could even start. If he can shoot even close to 45% like his stats indicate then he would be a perfect role player to fit in with Ulis and Briscoe.

I guess Newman wants to be a big fish in a small, stagnant swamp. That's what happens when you choose a school like Mississippi State over Kentucky.

I agree,my point is that it becomes too crowded in the back court and the team becomes guard heavy. We need 1 more big more than we need both Newman and Mulder

I wonder why he didn't want to announce on the Signing Day Special today?

Might've had a deal set up with the documentary filmmaker that was mentioned earlier.

Newman also seems like he's weighing options about even playing in college. Everything seems very tenuous with him. I think he likely verbals to Mississippi State but it wouldn't surprise me to see him overseas next year. Really odd situation.

Ben Roberts tweeted he would announce his decision via private interview with a local publication. Either way, none of the signs point to UK. Almost surely why Cal turned up the heat with Mulder.

It's not open to the public & that's not good for Miss. St.

2nd...but I don't think it's UK...I predict he ends up at Kansas. No one thought Wiggins would. And the only coach Newman has met with the last 10 days is Bill Self...Adidas

I wonder if we do land Newman if Murray is still an option. If it's one or the other, I'd almost rather have Murray (if he reclassifies of course)

Same here, and yeah I can't imagine if we get Newman that Murray would come. Even if he wanted to, Cal would probably suggest not reclassifying.

Matt Jones just sent out a tweet that I'm sure was meant as a direct message haha

said something to the effect of "Think they get Murray now. Dude is good. Big get for Cal. We getting dinner?"

I take it to mean Matt's not confident in getting Newman.
We get Murray, we won't need Newman. We get Murray AND Diallo and we are back in the hunt for number 9.

The Newman recruitment has been odd to say the least, but I still say he's ours. No way he's dumb enough to go to Mississippi St. I mean that would be just insane. Remember Noel to Georgetown? Twins to Maryland? etc. We absolutely have to have either him or Murray one to be an elite team. Newman knows he's the missing link IMO. He knows he'll get his minutes, points, exposure, attention, etc. I'm pretty confident we'll land him. Just a gut feeling. If we get Newman, Diallo, and Mulder we're the best team in the country hands down. Ulis, Newman, Mulder, Diallo, Skal would be an unbelievable lineup. Then Briscoe, Mathews, Poy, and Lee coming off the bench. I love Newman's swag too. He's got that killer instinct that we were missing this year. Mark it down we're getting him.

Does this remind anyone of a Devin Booker recruitment? He had a strong pull to go play where his dad did.....I didn't get that feeling with James Blackmon Jr.

If you decide to play basketball at Miss. St., you're not serious about getting better in one year. Howland should not be able to reel in a 5 star recruit 1 month into the job.

It worked terrific for Booker, and I would think Newman would take notice of that. Cal isn't going to hurt your rep getting to the next level.
If anyone shows the young man the S.I. article on UCLA and Howland I don't see whey anyone would want to play for him!

I really hope we get this kid, although I'm not confident we get him, and he might turn out to be a chemistry killer. I know this kid is a beast, but if he doesn't want to share the ball, then he will be better of at MSU. I'm sure he will do great in the N.I.T if he chooses to attend MSU. I don't know who else MSU has. I do know that if you are the only option on a team, it makes it easier for the defense to shut your team down.

Just read on KSR that Evan Daniels is predicting MSU. Looks like most recruiting services are doing the same as well. I didn't realize that his Father played at MSU.

We sure could have used his talents for sure, but I was concerned about chemistry problems if he did come here. He just seemed to have a "Me first" attitude that may have caused problems between him and Cal and his teammates.

Being reported that Mississippi St. and Ole Miss (?) will both sit down with Newman this week.

Odd that they'd feel the need to get in there with a player who's already made his decision and set his announcement. Only thing I can think is that he may have put it out there that he wants to stay in Mississippi.

Thing I like about him is he can create a shot with the shot clock winding down. That's an important element for a team with aspirations of winning it all.

I know he's supposed to be an awesome offensive guard, but I really want Murray more, so I hope he does stay in state.

Jamal Murray is a beast. Malik Newman picking MSU tells me he is not about winning. I'm also not in love with his on court demeanor. Doesn't seem like a Cal type player. Give me Murray, Mulder and one more big and call it a day.

I would feel more confident if that tweet came from Marc Maggard:)
