List of Coaches to Replace Cal.

The fact that some of you list Scott Drew tells me you have no clue what you're talking about.
Drew has been past the sw16 3 times in 20 years. Only 1 of those was in the past decade. Are you all going to be good with that kind of record?
Eric Musselman has done nothing. His rise to fame is 2 E8's! He chokes in big games and spends most of the gane flailing on the sidelines like a whiny school girl.
Nate Oats is awful! Full stop!
Chris Beard teams plays a more boring style than Cal. His better teams also underachive often. He's also not leaving TX.
Tommy Lloyd has been a HC all of 1 full season and that was mostly with someone else's team. I also don't see why he would leave Arizona.

That’s your first ever post, so yeah, and okay I will humor you, who do you like then because all the coaches you listed two are clear cut candidates and one is a long shot

None of the ones I listed are clear cut candidates. None of them will ever be interviewed or offered by UK. And thank God!
It's going to be at least 5 years before UK can afford the buyout. It's currently a little over 40mill. It goes down by 6 mill a year. So in 5 years it will be around 10 mill, which is when we could realistically justify paying it.
By that point there will be names we don't even know about at this point.
If it were now: Wright, Donovan, Bennett, Sampson, Few, Vogel and Stevens would be my first calls. Make those 7 tell you no.
However, I will let you in on a little secret. If Cal were to step away right now, Chris Holtmann is who would be offered the job. He isn't who I want or would recommend, but Barney has been dialed in on him for a while, and Chris knows it as well.
Vogel is the only one in that list who would even consider it, so it would be a waste of time, musselman is the best combination of recruiting and results, so he should be a candidate, drew isn’t leaving baylor but it couldn’t hurt to try, and Lloyd is TBT, but all this means nothing because Kentucky is stuck with calipari as long as he wants to be here
Unless Cal turns it around and gets back to the Cal that came to Kentucky.
If he's 5 more years, Rupp will look like a museum. Quiet. 5 more years, absolutely no way he lasys that long unless he gets another title.
If you would pass on all of those names but Vogel, you need to stay as far away from the hiring process as possible. Vogel would be the end of that list to be honest.

I can imagine a UK fan saying the wrong thing after a loss and Musselman not being able to control his emotions.

I do agree Cal will be here at least 5 more years if he chooses. That's why it may be best for some of your guys sanity to just hope we are just starting slow and will get it figured out.

Mostly agree. Drew doesn’t seem to be a great guy. Musselman is too much of a clown. Beard would do a solid job, but not sure we should go down that Bobby Knight disciple route.
Oats is borderline to me. I like the trajectory of his career, but he hasn’t taken that next step.
I like Lloyd because he jumped right in at a top 10 program and exceeded expectations, even if it was with the former guy’s roster. Looks good again this year. Recruited like an animal at Gonzaga.
No clue if he would leave Zona. Also doubt we need to make this decision sooner than 2024, and we will know more about Lloyd by then.
I can get on board with that assessment. Eric Musselman's recent blowup probably doesn't have Mitch trying to find his number either.
^^^This 100%. It’s exactly what came to my mind immediately. Cal is an absolute Jack ass and has become a complete embarrassment to the “once great” Kentucky program.
Frank Vogel for me but believe Chris Holtmann is Barnhart’s first choice.
Unless you have the money to pay his buyout or you are capable of taking Cal out somehow, I don't know where you think he is going.
Rupp has been a museum for years. It's the quiest arena I have ever been to, and that was the case even several years ago. It's just a horrible setup. Put the old people further up and pack the area around the court with students and young people who actually engage.

I just don't see anything that makes me think Nate Oats is going to make it long-term in a p5 conference, let alone at UK.
Lloyd has done well, so far. We need to see how he does with more post-seasons, but I think it's unrealistic he leaves AZ or the west coast. Those west coasters tend to like it out there.
IMO, the buyout is way too high for at least 5 years. Barney would be dooming himself to pay anything above 10mill for it. So unless Cal walks and leavs that on the table, I think he is here until at least 2027.
He may stick around that long. I can see him getting through the DJ year and hanging it up. Gets to stay on as ambassador, work on world peace or whatever. May be wishful thinking on my part, but it’s the feel I get.
Both of which have nothing significant on their resume of college success.
You are part of the problem as well. It's all about wins and if the coach wins I don't care how he acts to our stupid fans that get offended.
I'm just putting myself in the shoes of someone who is deciding between 1 million annually and 9 million annually. (Granted, that will never be a conundrum I am tasked with) but I don't know too many who would take the lesser.
Give him a few years, see what he's done, and then see if he is still a worthy candidate.

Musselman has won nothing so far. He recruited one good class and that was with 3 in state recruits and the others all being in surrounding areas. Considering KY isn't exactly talent rich, not sure that's going to work here. Also, Nick Smith is doing the exact thing Shaedon did to us, which is one of the bigger issues people currently have with Cal. Do we want another coach that allows it? He also has issues with controlling his emotions and being unprofessional. Not sure how any of that is the combination UK is looking for.
Also, how do we know he takes it anymore than we know the others don't? Has he said so at some point?
Jay Wright walked away. Roy Williams walked away. At some point enough is enough.
Cal will be 65 then too. Again, no clue what he will do. But someone would let him coach until he’s in his grave, if that’s what he wants. Most people want to shift gears a bit toward the end.
I'd add Kelvin Sampson, but not sure if it would be with the first grouping or the third.

Donavon- ha already turned Kentucky down multiple times so it’s likely a no again
Musselman would say yes probably and he may not have reached a final four yet but he is getting closer
Besides being a Kentuckian..what has Holtmann done to warrant this? He’s been a slightly above average college coach.
Again…his resume is NOT Kentucky caliber. Not even close. Have no idea why Barnhart’s apparently so infatuated.
Nothing special but KSR said he is a good friend of Mitch’s and would get the nod almost certainly if CAL were to up and leave unexpectedly.
Cal isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. By the time he does, who knows what coaches out there will be good candidates. Some of the ones being mentioned now might crash and burn by then. Think we’re stuck with Cal like it or not.
