Lol,, just pointing out when you take 60% of your team's shots to get 60 and shoot under 50%,, it's not that impressive.. MJ would have put up 90 on 50 shots.. He was 23/37 on his 69 point night.. Currys 46 was way more impressive last night..
60 on 50 shots is 1.20 points per shot. Jordan averaged 1.31 points per shot for his career.
Plus, the completely missed fact is that Kobe is 37 and his legs and body are completely shot from playing 20 seasons (as well as all those extra playoff games). Nobody has done something like that at his age and wear and tear. I think the next oldest to score 60 was Wilt at a full 5 years younger. Jordan wasn't gonna do that when he was that old. To not take into account those circumstances is silly.
What was impressive about it wasn't the 60. It was that trailing by 10 with 3 minutes to go he dropped 15 and made everything. Looked like he did in his prime at the end. Crazy impressive considering his age, and that he played 42 minutes last night and was clearly gassed as could be.
Because that is what is most impressive about Kobe as a player. He was unmatched in will, desire, competitiveness, tunnel vision focus, commitment to his craft. Nobody worked harder or wanted it more than that guy. That last 3 minutes was basically that in a nutshell.
Kobe is one of the all time greats to play the game. I would probably put him somewhere in the ballpark of 5th best player ever. I have Mike #1, and Magic #2. After that hell, there really isn't that much difference in the next 10-15 guys, and a ranking is just about what preferences one has individually.
I'm a Lakers fan for over 30 years now, and the detractors that discount his 5 titles are absurd. He probably wouldn't have won those 3 without Shaq. So what? Shaq wouldn't have won those 3 without Kobe either. In the NBA you need a sidekick, nobody wins titles as the lone stud. Mike doesn't win all his titles with Pippen. As a Lakers fan I would have him as the 2nd greatest Laker ever, behind Magic.
Part of what made him one of the greats was that tunnel vision and unbending pursuit of his goals. That same characteristic is part of what made him an asshole at times. They go hand in hand. The same traits cut both negatively and positively. But nobody is talking about where he's ranked in all time greatest people. Fact is he's way up there in all time greatest basketball players. And anyone that can't see that is letting their judgment be clouded by their distaste for him and just hating. It's kind of like how Demarcus Cousins detractors always harp on his petulance. Just reaching in order to discount them.
