Kentucky v. Ohio (NCAA Tournament)

Hopefully Mac can pitch the 9th and get the win salted away. Still would have Pop, Schaenzer, and Salow available, also Cleary.

He definitely got stronger as that inning progressed. He just needed to calm the nerves I think.

Squires works a full count before flying out to shallow left. Blessing has done a pretty solid job in relief. Marshall then takes a walk. Carson pushes a bunt to third to advance Marshall. Once again, this Ohio team has a very good defense.

I would kind of like to see Pop pitch the 9th just to get some rust off of the arm. He hasn't thrown in a long time. Can we trust him to come in during a very hard spot? However, I understand preserving him as well.

Heady goes down on strikes. Need three more outs here to close this out and win the first game of a regional for possibly the first time, at least the first I've ever seen. Let's get it done!

TV guys just said that Thompson is up in the pen.

Salow gets a check swing ground out to himself. That is good and bad. Now the top of the lineup for Ohio... very scary.

Salow has just not been very sharp for the past month. 2-0 against Ibarra and a runner at third.

A fly ball to left finds Reks' glove for out number 2. Runner isn't able to tag! One more guys!!!!

Base hit up the middle. Rott coming up with a chance to tie it. Lefty v. lefty matchup though.

EVAN WHITE with another great stop to end this threat and end game number 1 with a UK win 6-4!!!! Great job guys!!

Wasn't extremely pretty, but we were seeing the ball fairly well and we got a lot of hits. Just need to have that big break out inning. Tomorrow at 7 we face the winner of game two. Need Lewis to come and be sharp.

Win and advance. That's what they did. And Salow probably has a lot of pitches left in the tank. I like where UK sits.

Still not a huge fan of using him there. I don't hate it, but not a big fan.

Here is the big question... UK has a minimum of two games left in this regional. Tomorrow we're going with Lewis. Then what? The TV guys says Thompson was up and throwing so that would indicate that he might not be used as a starter. If he's not then are we going to still start Logue in game 3? Do we try to preserve Thompson at all in case we need him to start game 4?

Not quite sure. If Lewis pitches well and we can go Machamer again, I would pitch Thompson 3rd game. But if Thompson was warming up, it seems they are looking to Logue for game 3 which I completely disagree with at this point.

It is interesting. Maybe they took some hope from what Logue did in the SEC tournament and feel he is back to a strong form. Not sure.

SO Pop is available to pitch now?

That is debatable, IMO. He has been traveling and has been said to have been available since the SEC tournament. However, as you know, we've yet to see him on the mound. My concern is that it is a poor time to bring a guy back into the bullpen when we don't know what kind of return he might have. None of the games are throw away games at this point (obviously). So, we either have to roll the dice with him coming in, or maybe if we have one of those games where we dominate we can find a place to send him in for an inning or two and see what he's got.

1 thing I've learned from college and HS post season tournaments is you don't leave your best on the bench. You can't worry about tomorrow or Sunday.. The only thing you can worry about is the game that you're playing in. I've seen many aces and closers not used and it has burned many managers in the butt. Play your best today and worry about the next game afterwards.

Very true. It really just depends on what the plans are for Thompson this weekend. Are they hoping to use him as a starter in game 3 or are they looking to Logue? Are they possibly only going to use him as a reliever if that absolutely have to have him or will we see him without a doubt tomorrow if it is a close game? If he appears tomorrow then he won't be starting Sunday. They could also be planning on using Schaenzer as a starter instead of Thompson. I don't really know. It is just an intriguing question.

Turned out to be 15. The score could have been very lopsided if we had gotten that timely hit with the bases loaded or White's hit had been just a bit longer.

Kind of glad we saved some runs for today. Lol
