Kentucky Baseball 2022

These guys are so desperate to get out of UK's program that they were filing the paperwork on the bus ride home, or basically directly afterwards.

Again... this is extremely telling.

What’s telling is there was still an outside chance Kentucky could have made the NCAA tournament. Not likely but it was still possible.

If all this stuff is true, and I'm not saying it isn't, then why don't these kids march on the ad's office and voice their opinions as a group. I have a close friend who's close with a player and he told me a lot of stuff that went on over the off season that was disappointing. Sure seems like time for a change ASAP.
Because at the end of the day the head coach had the power to play you OR not play you and MB and NM are colleagues there is a number of ways that could backfire.

I’m curious how many hit the portal and how soon. I’m fairly certain Mingione will get another year.

I have heard 5. Just based on some Twitter ramblings. One, if true, is really going to hurt the pitching staff. But it’s just not the transfers. There’s a lot of guys just moving on. This roster was setup to succeed this year. And look where we’re at. I’m with you, I think Mingione is back next year. I hope I’m wrong.

He comments that the poor culture Needs to be addressed. That the problem is way bigger than wins and losses.

“Well when the win/loss record isn’t near the biggest of issues, you know something is wrong. It’s been at a crossroads for 3 years too long.. it’s WAY deeper than wins/losses in that program. Culture matters... a lot.”

I copied and pasted Brett Marshall’s comments. He was replying to Adam Luckett’s KSR piece.

Thank you Sean. Pardon me if my paraphrase mis represented Marshall’s quote. Thank you for posting.

Dang. Can't find it. Bet that's gold.
And Marshall and B3N are as close of friends as you can get. Both of them local players. Like Cam and Harmon who also both are leaving. Cam and Trae I think would strongly consider re committing to the Wildcats if Mingione is fired. Cam is the type of player that every championship team needs. As tough as they come and being a hometown player has a feel for what matters to the hometown fans. He is a huge loss imo.

The Brooks story is a prime example of the BS spell Nick tries to put everyone under. Treats current players like crap and tramples them to get ahead at their future expense for a goofy feel good story about offering a free education to a former player and making it seem like it was so important to him. All that was is more fluff for his phoney persona. Once you accept that and watch all his goofy videos of him talking you will realize everything he does is for show. He’s worse than your worst politician.

Mitch could shock us and let Mingione go. I assume they will be meeting in the next week or two to recap the season.

Look I love Eddie Brooks and I get why he was so complimentary about Nick but there was nothing “ organic “ about the video telling that story. I’m sure it never crossed Nicks mind that he would look good “ handing out “ free education on the spot.

I promise you Nick was imagining how good he would come off in a video telling everyone this organic story , discovering that Brooksie never graduated. I think every former player that hasn’t graduated should call Nicks office tomorow to let him know that they also haven’t graduated. I mean since Nick is handing out free education to former players.

Is that how it works anyway? Can Nick on the spot get the University to pay for anyone’s education ? If you watch the video Beooksie Is shocked and Nick replies like yeah no need to check with anyone, free education on us.

Big shock the “ organic “ video of Nick bragging about this amazing generosity of his and thoughtfulness he has for mankind ALSO has a video crew recording Brooksie telling us how great of a guy Nick is.

Sooooo genuine Nick , soooo organic.

I've lurked here quietly for a while. Haven't said anything just read. Let me be very clear, NM has two faces. He knows the buzzwords to say in public, but the persona behind closed doors is one of arrogance and ignorance. The treatment of players being stated recently is true. The culture of the team is bad and NM has made it very divisive seemly deliberately. Players are trying to get out, some are leaving, others are scared.

Being uncomfortable and unsure in the outfield is a far cry from being lazy. That's a poor choice of words.

Agreed. Anu does not accelerate quickly, but he has a pretty high top speed. Not accelerating is made more obvious when you're not great at reading the ball off the bat or in the air. So, I think it can look like he's being lazy when it is really partly a physical limitation he has regarding quickness and then a skill he hasn't developed well in reading the ball in the OF. Definitely don't think the kid is lazy.

I'll appease you and CD...still had no business being out there.

Aaron Gershon SBNation , a sea of blue . Com , put up a poll this morning asking if NM should be retained or not. I’m vote for the players that are unable to speak up on their own behalf out of fear.

I certainly hate to hear this but it’s coming from several sources. If Mitch keeps him that’s really a poor look for him and it’s squarely on him.

Barnhart has a bit of time to decide. June 30 is the day that the contract rolls over. So, basically, Mingione is paid a $575,000 per year and is paid that salary over the course of the year in certain increments (not sure if it is weekly, monthly, bi-weekly or what, can't remember and don't care to go look it up). The year starts new on July 1 each year.

His contract states that if he is fired he is owed the remainder of the year plus an additional amount (depending on when he is fired). So, we've almost paid him for the year and if we fire him before June 30 we will only owe him the small amount remaining of the $575,000 (if any) and then 3 years of his salary at 50 percent, or $862,500.

If we wait until July 1, then he's likely to be retained because we'd owe him the fully $575,000, plus his salary for 2 years at 75 percent (again, $862,500).

In short, Barnhart can take about a month to decide what he'll do with this. Probably a good chunk of meetings and such to determine Mingione's fate.

Good information. I would expect something to happen in the next 2-3 weeks. If not, I would assume Mingione has been retained.

If it doesn’t happen in the next week to 10 days then he’s back.

I would think the longer it goes the less likely it is that he is fired. However, I continue to think that players entering the portal might begin to weigh heavily on Barnhart. Last number we have heard is 5. That means we're for sure losing 6 seniors and 5 other players for a total of 11 so far. The question becomes whether more jump ship or stick around.

Slugger mentioned 2 that have interest from SEC schools. Not sure if those two are in that list of 5, so we really could be closer to 7 or more at this point.

I’m pretty sure Barnhart is aware of the player issues. There’s nothing like unhappy baseball parents. I’ve been involved in the game as both player and coach for many years and know all about baseball parents. Question is are enough unhappy to make a difference. You’ll almost always have a couple families not happy.

No offense intended to the kids mentioned as leaving but most so far really aren’t SEC level talent. The number 41 ranked class coming in is insulting if for no other reason than our facilities. If there are indeed a lot of internal issues the word will get out to the baseball community and that will destroy your recruiting.
