Kentucky Baseball 2022

I would certainly like to know why Mitch thinks Mingione deserves another year.
Giving him another year would be the worst mistake he could possibly make for the baseball program. If Mingione gets another season, there won't be anything at all left to build around by this time next year. Whoever gets the job will have to do a complete ground up rebuild. He will start the job with nothing to work with. If we get rid of Mingione now, maybe at least we can retain the good players we have so that we possess a foundation to build upon when the new coach arrives. The longer Mingione is here, the more players we are going to see transfer out. I don't see a helluva lot of help coming with Ming's lackluster recruiting class either. Get rid of this clown now! The longer he is retained, the longer the rebuilding process is going to take.

Right on the money.

Maybe Mitch is still feeling the stress and rejection from his last search. Easy way out is to put your head in the sand and hope/ wish for better. That unwarranted extension was a way of expressing that course of action. Kind of a lazy way of governing.

Mitch might be better served to give the baseball to an asst ad to evaluate and recommend solutions. Also to interview all the team members including the transfers. Mitch is too close to CNM to be objective. Both very religious and not in his nature to like confrontation. CNM is also a bible study very religious type just like his kindred spirit, Mitch

After watching a couple days of the NCAA, I have a new favorite coach. Jordan Bischel from Central Michigan. His group was fun to watch. And they play with a ton of energy.

Article on incoming freshman Michael Dallas. Looks like he picked UK over Tennessee Tech...

Baseball recruiting is so strange and hard to figure out. Football is relatively simple. You know a guy is likely to be a QB or a OL or whatever. Basketball is simple. You know a SG will be a SG and a C will largely be a C and how they will fit in.

Baseball... so weird to figure out roster management. For instance, UK has 4 HS seniors listed as shortstops coming in for next year and 1 listed as a 2B. So, 5 guys that can play 2 positions. That to go with several already on the roster and a JUCO SS/3B coming in. We have just 1 true OF coming in. So, it is just interesting to see where all of these guys will end up in one way or another, or if they get cut or what. Again, I understand that a lot of guys that are short stops on their high school teams are really there because they are the best player and they'd be better suited elsewhere, but that is the difficulty that I am talking about... hard to understand where they will project to.

So last year it was a log jam in infield as well as the outfield, this coming year it will still be a log jam in the infield.

I like recruiting SS’s because they can play all infield positions, whereas not all other positions can play SS.

I may have jumped the gun on this one. After reading the article it just says TN Tech offered him to play both sports. Does he other D1 offers in baseball only?

I like the SS recruiting for infield but if you’re not recruiting any outfielders that’s just crazy. We all know next year is going to be a disaster. Mitch has done a lot of good things for the athletic department but keeping Mingione ain’t one of them.

Agree ...guess we can only hope it turns out we are all wrong and it turns around. Very disappointing!!

Well, I’ve pretty much have given up on any hope for a new baseball coach. I would really like to know how Barnhartt can justify Mingione deserving another year. But, here we are. Come on football season.

This is my best guess. Of course, I disagree with it, but here we go:

2017 - Amazing season. Best in UK history.
2018 - A solid season and UK should have been in the NCAA tournament. Injuries derailed our season and without those we're probably easily in the NCAA tournament.
2019 - A bad year, but UK lost so much because of graduation from 2018, so down years are to be expected sometimes. 2018 having the injuries just makes 2019 look worse. Without the injuries, this year is more excusable.
2020 - Didn't happen. Still, the Cats were turning it around and really starting to hit. They were on a winning streak when they shut the season down.
2021 - Better than expected. We were supposed to finish last and we made the SEC tournament. Just a few wins shy of making a regional. Clearly, the team is headed in the right direction.

I hate all of this. lol

Great thread. Been holding my breath on a few things, but hell here is a couple nuggets.
* Grace told to not return
* Harmon not the only one at SEC Tournament that was last minute told not on roster. Parent of said kid livid in Hoover that day.
* Kid named Johnson that was committed to 2021 told to look elsewhere.
* Cottongame had arm injury. Gave up baseball for some other career interest. Armed forces maybe??
* Harper pursuing law degree.

Heard rumors Hill is looking into Louisville, Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Notre Dame and EKU.

Marsh is courting some schools to be a starter, not come out of the bullpen.

Harmon is looking into Auburn.

Never heard of Hicks or Cole??

Yep... I would think no change will be made at this point.

I really appreciate the information. If anyone has good information please share.

Been told Hill is headed to Alabama. One kid if I've not seen in portal being courted by SC. Probably staying.

I hate all of this too. But I will respectfully disagree about 2020. We will never know but I think the SEC would have been worse in 2020 then it was in 2019. The conference was absolutely loaded last year.

2017 was an amazing season but there has been nothing built off from that. Excitement was at an all time high. The support was there. Plus the excitement of the new ballpark coming. Yet, Kentucky, wether they deserved the tourney bid or not, still missed it.

2021 is a mixed bag. Started off decent, but dont forget. UK lost a series to Ball State. Had to come back for three wins against really bad teams. Started 9-9 in conference play but ended up 3-9. Looking at Mingiones resume, I just dont see what bringing him back accomplishes.

Lol I didn't say I agreed with it at all. In fact, I'd argue counter points to all of it, but I figure I'd try to at least make the argument. Lol

I think it’s a given that mingione will be back at this point. Pretty much takes most if not all the excitement away for next year. Fan support for the program is almost completely gone and I imagine we’ll see some sparse crowds at the park next year. But hey we’ll save some money at least!

Why anybody would go to a game and support Barnhart's decision would be odd. Would mostly have to be a few people that go just for the heck of it because anybody that would go thinking things might start turning around is totally out of touch of just how bad this program is under Mingione. The fans need to rise up and not allow this to continue and this can be done by just not going. Support our program and let Barnhart know we care about it more than he does. I know the pride our fans have for this school and it shouldn't keep going on like this.

Gotta save the cash for basketball.

Seeing absolutely rocking stadium atmospheres at the regionals in Oxford, Fayetteville, and Knoxville the last couple of days makes watching UK’s baseball program flounder even more frustrating.
LOL, TN fans being typical TN fans. Three weeks ago they couldn't name 3 players on TN's roster...now they're suddenly college baseball experts.
