Kenny walker believes the reason why amari does not offensively attack the rim (aka dunk the ball)

Geez, I dislike Tennessee basketball fans more than I do Louisville basketball fans and that is saying something! Tennessee fans talk so much shit like they’re one of the blue blood schools or something. It would be pain if UK lose to UT on Friday, especially if they make it to the Final 4. UK would be on their stupid first ever Final 4 run highlight reel.

Coach Pope is going to have them ready and we’re playing with confidence with less pressure, we’re going to be the underdog. Fans should bring out the broom 🧹 because Kentucky is going for the sweep on Friday night!

Especially when they own us in football. Gotta take control in the basketball series.

The way Amari shoots free throws, I'm amazed he makes any. It's a very odd looking shot.
If he was more fluid with post moves and shooting, he would absolutely dominate.

I guess Kenny could be right, but it's just a theory. IDK, maybe AW is trying to avoid contact, but what he is doing is missing an easy 2 points by not dunking it and now everyone scouting us, is seeing him miss these bunnies, so he better figure it out.

Might as well dunk it, if you miss the free throw, at least you got the bucket.

The jumping off TWO feet is an interesting one. I've seen players not have the fluidity to explode off two feet, especially on the move. This COULD be it. However, when you're 7-feet and as athletic as Amari, it's not like he needs much to get to the rim. There are lay-ups he is releases above the cylinder and still, not dunking.

He's not a GREAT free throw shooter, but he's still 60%+. I'd rather make 1 of 2, than miss a lay-up, fall down and get beat to the other end.

I think it's just part of learning basketball late and not being 100% comfortable and grooved in on putting up a shot. It's like a dancer who is a little stiff and jerky and messes up his moonwalk.

He shoots them the way we shoot mini basketballs at the arcade.

He is just not explosive in two foot position.

He should watch film of how Bill Walton dropped it in when dunking was illegal in college. You don't need to be as high above the rim, and he did it efficiently.

Amari shoots most his shots like a hot potato, not much touch, it just flies off his hands with the hopes of going in. If he has his mind set on the NBA, he better start dunking at close range or he won't get the chance.

I've noticed he has his hands down below his waist most of the time, even on defense. Because of this, it causes him to take a little longer to get his shot off or to react. Maybe that split second extra allows the defense just enough time to recover to hinder his shot. There's not been too many Kentucky players that I've gotten more aggravated at but then the next possession been so happy with than AW.

I don't think Amari can jump, especially off 2 feet. Any kind of obstacle will hinder him from getting "wound up" to dunk.
I used to think this until I watched him in warmups before the Oklahoma game in the SEC tournament. He had several impressive dunks, including a one handed 360. I kid you not. I'm not saying it was Mac McClung level or anything approaching it, but they were good enough that I was stunned to see that he could do it. I had assumed that he just couldn't.

I have NO CLUE why he doesn't attack the rim during games, but it isn't because he can't jump well enough.

I think he just defaults to avoiding contact, so he dances or rolls away from defenders. Trying to find angles rather than just go through them.

Sorry but the answer to lack of dunks isn’t mysterious. It comes down to nutrition. His body is suffering from a lack of Wheatabix. Thankfully, he is back on the prescription. Within two weeks, he will be the next coming of Dominique Wilkins.

Nail Larry has a call in show from 12 to 3 Mon thru Friday ,he talks sports and politics . Larry and Kenny walker do a post game call in show after the end of every game. 590 am wvlk eastern times I heart
It was on around the state at one time. The post game. I haven't heard it in a while. I could go online but it's up against UK and I usually listen to it and it's endless commercials.

He's definitely afraid of contact as he always fades on the jump hook.

I don't remember the postgame show being on around the state before. I thought it was always just on 590WVLK. I could be wrong about that.

He jumps fine, he just has a guard mentality. He's just not a physically minded guy and avoids contact and likes to play in space. He's more comfortable double clutching against a defender than going through him. He's more comfortable dribblinb around them than backing them down. When he jumps he picks his feet up to hesitate and double clutch to get shots off instead of exploding over guys. He still quick releases turn arounds in the lane before his eyes find the basket because he's worried about getting them blocked.

Its just his style and mentality. The guy is incredibly gifted athetically and physically but doesnt know it. I've always joked they need to put a full length mirror in the locker room for him to stand in front of before each game to remind him he's the beast on the floor.
