Whatever happened to IL WILDCAT?

The trolls and wackos the past few years made Rafters almost unbearable. One of the big reasons I took the plunge financially to post on House of Blue. That shit is mostly weeded out over there. But I have enjoyed reading this thread. A lot of good posters in it. And it seems Pope has united the fanbase to a certain extent especially with the Sweet 16. I told a friend I haven’t felt like I did after the win Sunday in a hell of a long time. Too long.
I miss you over here Irish!

You are not going to want to hear this, and probably won't believe it until it happens to you........
John Calipari is personally responsible for the split in the UK fanbase.

Something I thought I would NEVER live to see. But here we are.
Oh, I certainly believe it. I have always despised John Calipari, considered him an outstanding recruiter, but a terrible game planner and atrocious at in game adjustments.

I will support him because he is the coach of my team, but he better win big, and it better be quick, because if he doesn't, I think he has at most 3-4 more years before he is gone.

Another poster I haven't seen in a very long time is junkyardhawg. He was a great contributer here for years, but I think he got banned for some crazy reason and I haven't seen him since.

He’s fortunate he turned this year around because you could already see everything Kentucky fans were fed up with about 60% of the year. I do see some differences as Fland would have never returned to play here, and Cal would never have gotten the team back on track after that SEC start.

Hasn't always been this way.
Disagreements, yes. But nothing like the division created by Cal with his agenda.
There was no internet but there was a group that believed Rupp needed to go because he was past his prime. They thought Joe B needed to go because he wasn't winning like Rupp. Tubby Smith... Billy Gillispie...

Pitino was the closest we have been to being united. He led us out of probation and turned us back into a winner.

I follow Kentucky closely and I see a few differences as well. Fland coming back and Thiero apparently playing tomorrow is not what I would have expected.

Maybe he is acting on some great advice from Payne, Coleman, Brewer and Ulis!
I think he’s prioritizing winning in college this year so he can say “see Kentucky made a mistake.” I believe he’s doing it for his ego and the reaction of his wife and kids shows me that IMO. Even Erin was at the game and she’s never there. She’s not even a basketball fan according to her own comments yet she was crying after that win because she knows how big it was for Cal’s image.

Perfectly said.

When he was here, he would never have LET Fland play again after being hurt earlier in the season, because he's "player first." Now he's desperate to prove UK should have kept him even though he would have sleep walked here through this season. He knows he did this to himself and needs the blame lifted.

If he had changed anything while he was here and put as much effort into coaching his team here as he did attacking fans and avoiding questions, he'd never have lost the fans. He also might have won 2 or 3 more titles here if he wasn't such a narcissist and didn't make stupid decisions with an undefeated team.

I'm happy for Arkansas and for Cal that he finally is doing what he should have done for 6 years here. I'm also sad for Arkansas, because this might be the only season where he puts it together again. He's already started preparing for the next loss. That's not a good sign

You are probably right. I watch almost every Kentucky Basketball Game with my wife and neither of us could remember ever seeing his daughter on TV.
Which is actually great for you Arkansas fans. Cal had lost that chip on his shoulder here. Most of us hoped the loss to St Peters would have sparked that back in him, but he was too arrogant and delusional to see it.

I hate to say this because I respect you as an opposing fan, but even with that renewed spirit, Cal is still a shell of the coach and motivator he was 10 years ago. But he is a fabulous recruiter and that keeps you in the mix.

Good luck from here on out.

Almost every coach that left for another program or coached another college program afterward saw a bump their first couple years or so at their new school. It's always because of their egos. Had they approached anything here with the same intensity and focus, COACHING instead of COASTING, that they did in trying to prove UK fans wrong, they wouldn't have wanted to leave in the first place.

I'd be surprised if they didn't have that boost.

Pitino didn't know if his team could win the title in 97 and they didn't. He handled that game the way Cal handled the undefeated season finale against Wisconsin. Neither attacked. They came out soft and left soft. Pitino most likely already had the contract with Boston on his mind and finalized. Cal... just Cal'd.

There's always negs. There's always an LOD. There's always people that gamble and lose money. Cal and Tubby expanded that group in different ways.

Tubby always promised (LIED his ask off) and never delivered. Easily could've just told the truth of stepped up and delivered. How many years did he look people dead in the eye and say "we're going to run the floor" or "fast break basketball" again, only to do the exact opposite?

Cal talked about March and flopped like a boneless fish in it with loads of talent. He took shooters from college and froze them solid during their time here. He took an undefeated team with two starting fives and reduced the rotation to 6 people for no good reason. He went from wanting to take on all challengers and blue blood programs to canceling series and avoiding coveted travel destinations. He owns all of that. The only thing left to do was run away, so he did.

He's still him though, and his battle will always be with himself.

Six pages deep and not a real update on the missing mod.....hmmmm someone has to know something. Can anyone at least tell us uf he is ok??

Maybe we can lure him out of hiding if we post the right stuff...

I'm guessing he has been abducted by a 20 something Hollywood starlet looking for that IL message board moderator mystique... you know, that golf shirt (perhaps inside out) with the potato chip crumbs where the buttons used to be... it happens...

That was Megan if I’m not mistaken and she lives in Boston, which is like 45 minutes from Providence so that’s why she was there. I don’t think it’s as complicated as you’re making it out to be.

Everything you wrote is true. But none of those disagreements resulted in our own fans wishing for the team to lose or for a coach to fail at UK.

Until Cal........

Nah. Cal NEVER listens to his assistant coaches......
You are getting UNDERDOG CAL.

Cal LOVES being the underdog. The victim. It motivates him to fight and he gets to play the "disrespected" card to his players.

Cal coaches his @$$ off when he is not considered the favorite. How many times have you heard Cal say "they had us in the coffin and forgot to put the nails in". He loves that $hit.

Now, when Swaggy Cal comes out of hiding, and it is coming, get back to us on how much you like that version of Cal.

Legion of Doom for Tubby and people wishing Billy Gillispie would lose so they would go ahead and fire him since he was already so bad.
Can't imagine hoping Kentucky loses a game, no matter the circumstances.
