Johnson to Arizona

Fair enough statement.

Of course we don't know how the last 2-4 roster spots will look like. But lets compare 2011 to 2024.

Wagner & Knight: Knight was really good. He did turn it over a bit and wasn't a facilitator, but he shot the ball well. I think Wagner could be in the Knight "ballpark", but have to give Knight the edge.

Dillingham & Lamb: Very different type players. Lamb the best shooter arguably ever at UK. But as a FR didn't do a lot else. Dillingham may show to be much more versatile, but of course isn't as good a shooter. But his impact could be similar.

Jones & Bradshaw: Both wanted/want to be perimeter guys. Jones had the body to play inside, Bradshaw has the length to play inside, but looks really thin & weak. So I'd be shocked if he is as good as Jones as a FR.

Miller & Edwards: I think Edwards may be our best FR since Murray or Monk/Fox/Bam, so better than Knox. And we may need him to be that good. As a JR, Miller was good, but not that good. Edge Edwards.

Liggins & nobody yet: If Reeves returned, while Reeves is the much better scorer. Liggins shot it well as a JR, and was really good on DEF. So I'd prefer Liggins, but their impact may not be too different.

Harrellson & Onyenso: Harrellson was a solid role playing C good for 7-10 pts and 7-10 reb. That is similar I expect from Onyenso. He will be less of a physical presence, but more of a shot blocking rim protector. So similar impact.

Sheppard and Theiro are better than "dammit" Vargas and Hood no doubt. I think Theiro could be a contributor, if we knew what position he was needed at next year.

But the 2011 team had really good shooting (Lamb, Knight, Miller, Liggins) the best 3pt shooting ever at UK, Liggins was one of the best defenders we've had (Jones, Miller & Knight weren't bad either). Jones and Harrellson could bang inside. So the balance was there.
It is almost certain that our shooting will be mediocre next year at best. But we do have defensive potential. Scoring potential. But nothing right now to bang inside with.
Nice breakdown. Anyone may have a little different opinion about this or that, but good explanation.

The 2024 draft class is considered one of the worst in recent years
But to be fair, NBA draft class strength is not a predictor of how good of a college player an incoming freshman will be. Based on what I've read, both the high school ranking services and the NBA draft strength opinions are based on future potential (e.g., a lot of length, athleticism and measurables type stuff).

The guys UK has coming in are really good in my opinion. I particularly like the skill of the Guards. I also think Edwards can actually do ok as a college SF as a freshman. And I think it's pretty rare for a 5-star who is (or claims to be) a SF to be ok at the SF position as a freshman - almost always they just don't yet shoot it well enough for the position and hurt spacing (hence why most of the 5-star SFs would help their teams best at PF the first year or two in college, with the SF position being manned by a bigger/strong 2G).

I don't think it's reasonable or fair to ever really expect freshmen to shoot it that well during their first year in college. But if I knew it was expected that UK would keep the incoming freshmen for 2-3 years, then I would be pretty ecstatic with this freshman class. Contrary to the talk of this class being a "down year," I think it's a great group of freshmen. The problem in my opinion is not the freshmen UK has coming in; it's that UK would rely on more than 1 (or 2 at the most) freshmen starters any year. That's a bad and unnecessary gamble to make every year.

Assuming Tshiebwe, Livingston, and Reeves are gone and we have missed on Johnson, we will add another 4 or 5 man, at least. Probably add one of each.

Bradshaw and Onyenso can’t handle those two spots by themselves.

Everyone else is a 1, 2, or 3 man.

Thiero might be able to play some as a small ball 4.

Edwards is 6’8, but is closer to a 2 than a 4, especially in Cal’s system.

Cal will have to find a couple of guys to at least backup Bradshaw and Onyenso. And we really need to add a big man that is good enough to put Onyenso on the bench.

PG Dillingham/Wagner
SG Wagner/Sheppard
SF Edwards/Thiero
PF Bradshaw/Transfer
C Onyenso/Transfer

See above. Maggard was only saying that is likely Johnson's thought process. Arizona is losing Tubelis and has a big shiny starting PF spot opening up.
Where’s a link to the “maggard says” crap? The only good thing about maggards resurgence because the guy is a world class asshat is that the last time he turned up was the end of Bcg. So hopefully this is it for cal if they are leaking info to maggard. Why in the hell would anyone live to break UK bb news? There are like 20 outlets and MM is a disgusting person. Really another hit for Uk that this guy has shown back up and associated himself with someone on the staff.

Bradshaw and Bronny hanging out at the McD's game became Bradshaw and Bronny were getting a pet Iguana together and moving in to the Beverly Hills Hotel to raise it while playing at SC.

A California kid like Keshad Johnson staying on the west coast to play his last season isn't all that big of a leap.

Well, Maggard tweeted it was Arizona. He’s somewhat connected to someone in the program anyway. It doesn’t sound good.
I still don’t buy it’s Maggard unless his Cal contact was always Antigua. Kinda weird for him to come outta the woodwork again randomly, I’d try to get my lifetime membership fee back if anyone was dumb enough to pay for it:

I have heard of people who get too secure and comfortable in their position that they cross their fingers and hope certain things turn out alright, while less comfortable people would uncross their legs, hit the pavement and make sure things turn out alright. Which does Cal fit?

That’s crazy that he charged people a lifetime membership fee lol

If we COULD get a very good PF and Bradshaw did not like it I would tell Bradshaw to hit the road. Tired of all the crap if this is true.

And Cal says every year he will only go 6 or 7 deep by the end of the year. So I'm sure that doesn't help to get bench players.
By the tournament basically every contender has a very tight lineup. Go look at final four box scores, very rarely does any team play more than 8 players meaningful minutes. If a team goes 9 or 10 deep at that stage it’s out absolutely necessity and not because it’s a choice.

Guess Ky will have no bench at all next year while other teams have been getting pretty much who they want slow Cal setting around doing whatever he does and not adding anyone.
UK don’t need a bench in the SEC with the fair refs. 6 is good, 7 is unimaginable amount of talent. We just need 6, someone to sub for water breaks. It’s not like UK ever has injuries or foul trouble or holes in the roster.

Apparently there were. I’ve seen several people say he still owes them money!

Yes, contenders do play tighter lineups in the tournament. But, with little drop off in talent or contribution. With taking a leap of faith with four freshmen starters, I don’t see us having that luxury.

Our bench next season.

A lot of you SOBs absolutely disgust me, Cal has been everything to this program, a friend, brother, hell, a father figure to many of you insolent bastards, he loses out on one guy, ONE, and this how you behave…
What are you talking about 1 guy?
This is the 2nd guy he has chased in the portal and lost both.
Your hero, ccc is a double talking used car salesman that has disrespected the university and fans. He thinks he is above all. The last few years he has only had negative records for uk. Your love of this over paid clown is not how long time fans feel.

Livingston will not be back at Kentucky. It’s a damn near guarantee. Even if he is, he demands to be played way out of position anyway. He’d be most effective at the 4. However, Cal isn’t allowed to play Chris at the 4. Lulz.
This. He’s telling NBA front office ppl currently that he isn’t coming back to KY.

Coming from the same connection that told me about the video evidence semi clearing Brandon Miller before it finally leaked in the news that there was a video.

It’s wild. I seem to agree with you on every single post you make. I’ve noticed that for several years now. IIRC, we are the same age as well.

Anyway, I just want to land some good players. Be it role players or whatever. We need 2 more snipers and a mobile 4 IMHO. If Reeves returns, we need 1 sniper and a 4 man. As we know, it won’t be Chris Livingston.

That's our roster in the fall, as of now. That's it. And not much to make us optimistic about good pieces getting added. WTF is going on.
I've been on here reading and learning from the posters I admire and respect.. I haven't said much because feel like I don't know as much as some of you all on here and I've said before that I like to learn. I guess my question would be, in all seriousness, what exactly has Coach Cal been doing? The general consensus is that Cal is a better recruiter than an x's & o's coach. Okay so he is a good recruiter. Well, it seems that we need some more pieces of the puzzle. The incoming freshman class is wonderful...on paper at least. But there needs to be more. So what exactly has he been doing? I'm not trying to be mean, a smart aleck or anything like that. I'm just being curious. Wouldn't we have heard at least a little something?

I really love my UK Wildcats, but I'm beginning to think that the people who say Cal is trying to tear down the program, are correct. I, along with a lot of people, am not happy with the way the program is falling apart. And I try not to get really, really angry with him. But it's time to put up or get out. I'll be right there to help him pack...BEFORE he completely destroys the program. This coming year should be the last chance (in my opinion) to right the ship. There is enough big money in the state from donors to take care of the buyout. Then let UK start the process of rebuilding. We've done it before and we can do it again. Let's go, WILDCATS!!!

P.S. Sorry for rambling, but I get on a roll, and well....

While it's certainly not ideal (and we don't even know about Reeves and Oscar coming back yet)... In 2011, that team was only six deep. So it can be done. The bigger point is that it's May 19th... let's hold the phone on the freak outs before we know who is actually going to be on the roster. Remember, we got Reid Travis in August? Again, not ideal, but he was a key piece to that team. Let's just see what happens in the next couple of weeks especially.
There it is, the old “let’s wait and see” post. And when the roster doesn’t pan out you’ll show up and say “now let’s not panic, let’s wait and see how the season plays out“ blah blah blah…rinse and repeat…

How can we not land this dude only 7 deep max. Zona has like 6 forwards and Centers.
I truly believe coaches and other programs are starting to negatively recruit against UK much more aggressively and effectively than they used to. A lot of players have departed and have done exceptionally well afterwards, once they got away from Cal. Hell, look at Oscar the other day in camp, hit over 50% of his threes in a drill and shot well from the outside in game, things he was rarely able to attempt at UK...

It seems you know as much as some on this board. I truly believe that Calipari want to win another NCAAC with all freshmen. He is just to hard headed to listen to anyone else.

It is not considered to be a bad class. NBA scouts love Edwards and Bradshaw and many of them like Wagner a lot. We have 2 talented sophomores. We only need a few more reserves. Cal will sign a few transfers.
Ever think of changing your name to shittown Terry, it would certainly fit.
