Fair enough statement.
Of course we don't know how the last 2-4 roster spots will look like. But lets compare 2011 to 2024.
Wagner & Knight: Knight was really good. He did turn it over a bit and wasn't a facilitator, but he shot the ball well. I think Wagner could be in the Knight "ballpark", but have to give Knight the edge.
Dillingham & Lamb: Very different type players. Lamb the best shooter arguably ever at UK. But as a FR didn't do a lot else. Dillingham may show to be much more versatile, but of course isn't as good a shooter. But his impact could be similar.
Jones & Bradshaw: Both wanted/want to be perimeter guys. Jones had the body to play inside, Bradshaw has the length to play inside, but looks really thin & weak. So I'd be shocked if he is as good as Jones as a FR.
Miller & Edwards: I think Edwards may be our best FR since Murray or Monk/Fox/Bam, so better than Knox. And we may need him to be that good. As a JR, Miller was good, but not that good. Edge Edwards.
Liggins & nobody yet: If Reeves returned, while Reeves is the much better scorer. Liggins shot it well as a JR, and was really good on DEF. So I'd prefer Liggins, but their impact may not be too different.
Harrellson & Onyenso: Harrellson was a solid role playing C good for 7-10 pts and 7-10 reb. That is similar I expect from Onyenso. He will be less of a physical presence, but more of a shot blocking rim protector. So similar impact.
Sheppard and Theiro are better than "dammit" Vargas and Hood no doubt. I think Theiro could be a contributor, if we knew what position he was needed at next year.
But the 2011 team had really good shooting (Lamb, Knight, Miller, Liggins) the best 3pt shooting ever at UK, Liggins was one of the best defenders we've had (Jones, Miller & Knight weren't bad either). Jones and Harrellson could bang inside. So the balance was there.
It is almost certain that our shooting will be mediocre next year at best. But we do have defensive potential. Scoring potential. But nothing right now to bang inside with.
