IU is going to be waaaayyy better than expected.....

Is this guy going to be on the sidelines next year?

If not, the writer is dead wrong. No program can replace a legend like him and expect to be good year 1.

Ya know, it's a shame because I actually kinda like/d Archie . Now I have to dislike him and hope his teams suck and stay irrelevant.

Tis life eh?

Also - bring back clappy. Strangely enough , I'm gonna miss his creepiness

Don't worry, he'll be back. He'll have a whole season of missed clapping/creepy awkward faces/tugging on his slacks to make up for.

So I'm sure we will get it all on full throttle during his return campaign. I'll have my popcorn ready for the next movement.

These are Xavier-level talents. Indiana was getting better players under Clappy and did, effectively, nothing with them. Now if Archie gets Langford, that might be a sign.

The jury is out. We'll see what Archie can make happen in that oppressive, demented environment. I think he'll find things were actually easier at Xavier where you could sail along under the radar and surprise a couple people in March. Even at that, once he reached the point of higher expectations at XU after making the Elite Eight (by beating 10th-seeded Stanford) he never returned to the same level. The past two years he lost in the first round as the favorite to double-digit seeds.

Archie didn't coach at Xavier ...

Race Thompson is vastly overrated. Watched a game with him and incoming Marquette Fr Theo John this past year and Thompson was reduced to tears with how he was manhandled. Got 2 shots thrown off the backboard and his overbearing hippie mom and dad who is a joke (former NFL player Darrell Thompson) went into spin mode. Also saw Dad challenge a 17 year old to a fight in St. Cloud MN tournament because the low level AAU team dared to compete and play hard against the highly touted MN D1 (Adidas Sponsored) Team. This is odd recruit to see Miller add since he is known for preferring tough kids.

What talented kid wants to live in that dump of a town and play in that pathetic arena? Indiana is done and has been for a long time.

Millers recruiting will be interesting to watch. I know he had decent teams at Dayton, but I couldn't name one player from those teams. Now he has a much bigger recruiting budget, so well see if he can compete with the big dogs.

4 Star talent = 4 Star results
Sounds like Minnesota or Iowa. Very good once every 4 years. Great never.

I think Clappy would be a whole lot less frustrated as a women's basketball coach:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

He is landing players that many on this board want to go after so that they stick around for 4 years. If he can mix in a 5 star or two, they will have a solid class. Hate IU as much as the next guy, but that is a pretty nice 24 hour span for them.

Now they're hoping for Langford( a OAD ) lmao.... I think he will end up at UL, but how could any top 5 player put their future in the hands of Pitino?.. He has never had a OAD. Does Langford think he will be the first o_O

They may not be very good this year, but I do know one thing. They're WAY better off with Archie than Clappy.

Archie is a very good coach.

I respectively disagree. I doubt many UK fans want multiple players rated over 100. And, that is a good 24 hour span for Clemson, Georgia, and Texas Tech -- not Indiana.

EXACTLY.

As an IU fan, when I would come over here and read posts making fun of Clappy the Clown, all I could do was laugh.

Crean was simply absolutely horrible and it was embarrassing to have him as our coach. He deserved every ounce of ridicule he received. I just hate the used car salesman with every bone in my body.

Archie is a stud. Not predicting a run of Final Fours obviously like what you guys have enjoyed under Calipari, but IU is going to be consistently very good again under Arch.

No doubt in my mind.

Archie isn't Crean.

You know it and I know it.

One big difference you'll see right away, IU will defend.

Haven't seen a Crean team play defense in 9 years.

Crean was a used car salesman. Any IU EVER fired up by Tom Crean's hiring was/is a mook. Nothing more.

He may turn out to be a good coach, the jury is still out. The problem is the IU fans will make banners saying they are back (again) much quicker than he will be able to rebuild. So the big question is how long will the fans give him? Landing 3- 100 ranked players isn't gonna work against Wisc,Mich, and Northwestern (sorry, I had to).
Also, it's easier to win under the radar, he hasn't ever had to consistently play the big boys and expected to win come March which the IU fans will think is their birthright.

I'm still at a loss of why IU hired an unproven coach at a big school considering you had it locked up with Brad Stevens, Alford, and Donovan wanting a call.

I disagree. After the Davis, Sampson and Clappy years, IU fans simply want to watch good basketball again. Archie, zero doubt in my mind, is going to provide that. As for how long IU fans will give him.....all I can say is; they gave Clappy 9 years when he should have gotten 3.

Nobody is expecting Archie to walk in and start winning with the UK's, Duke's, UNC's anytime soon. Is it possible he gets there? I definitely believe it's possible but we'll see how it plays out.

Archie's brand of basketball is going to make IU consistently competitive with the big boys again. Not saying it's going to happen overnight, but I will promise you this: The Crean years of; "good one year, shitty the next three" is gone forever.
