Is Oweh’s return less likely ?

I’m seeing he’s now projected In the second round. Whatever happens, I think Pope is now preparing for him to possibly stay in the draft
It would be malpractice for the coach to not make back-up plans regardless of the likelihood of the final decision. Also the final list of combine invites likely informed the mock drafts….not necessarily Oweh’s stock rising.

Oweh's brother is in the NFL. Oweh is not stressed for cash. His family has been set for a while. He may just want to start his professional career and be done with college, especially since it seems like he's a very mature guy. Many guys have jumped to the pros early just to begin their careers...and there's nothing wrong with that. It's not all about NIL for every single player.

Which mocks? Just checked Yahoo, nbadraft and ESPN and he's nowhere to be seen.

I doubt he leaves unless he's guaranteed a first round spot by a few teams. Even then, I doubt he's a lock to go, though it's much, much more likely. Ask Will Levis how a guaranteed spot in the first round goes.

I just don't see Oweh making the jump this year unless he performs well enough at the combine to get up toward the lottery. He's got way more money at UK if we've heard correctly about the amount we're offering him.

I just don't see him leaving this year. I could very well be wrong, but I haven't heard anything about teams falling in love with him. I just feel like he'd do well to come back next year and work on himself more. Maybe he sees what happened to Robinson and opts for the league anyway. Lots of unknowns.

If Oweh stays in the draft, I have no doubt that Pope would snipe a wing from the transfer portal who backs out of the draft.

Depends on what he values more. The money for next year is more of a sure thing and possibly just plain more coming back to college with NIL. On the other hand, he’s already turning 22 next month, which is fairly old by draft standards. It’s pretty unlikely that that another year here is going to boost him into the lottery, so if the goal is to play in the league full stop, then it may be tempting to go ahead and start his career if he can get a second round guarantee.

All that being said, most of the people who may actually know at least a little of what he’s thinking say he’s back if he isn’t projected in the first round. Given that this one mock draft (from Bleacher Report for those who can’t find it) seems to be the highest on him by projecting him as the literal last pick of the draft, I still think it’s likely we get him back.

1. I don't see how his stock is rising as the Draft Combine hasn't started yet.
2. I can't find any mock drafts that include Oweh, so I have no idea where you get the sense that he's "less likely to return."
3. Oweh probably stands to make more in NIL at Kentucky than all but the top HALF of the FIRST ROUND in the NBA draft, which last year was $3.5 million for the 15th pick.

I don't see any way he isn't coming back, and find all this hand-wringing odd, at least until someone reports that he has blown up at the combine and is projected as a Lottery Pick.

If he’s 2nd round I think he’ll go. Brother is a pro. Confident guy. Just like Teague. Little bro wants what big bro has.

Omahacats is a contrarian. Historically, he's a massive pessimist.

I'm not surprised that he started this thread.

One does not simply get to spend his brother’s money.

I am not so sure we get Oweh back. He could easily make the right impression at the combine and get a top 40 pick status.
Fortunately, this seems like a deep draft. Otega has a lot of competition for those 2nd round spots. I’m believing about 50/50 for an Oweh return.

I love how Son of Saul just OBLITERATED Omaha Cats .......... I thought for a while Omaha is a Troll or a very pessimistic worry wart but now all of his threads are brought out into the light at once, yeah that person is an obvious troll. and you guys know what to do, bring these facts up after every one of their posts, eventually they'll think its not worth trolling.

So Owehs brother is just giving him money?

If anything, he may feel pressured to go pro since his brother is in a professional League. Maybe I’m looking way into it..

You keep saying this and I’ve already shared with you what NBA organizations are typically looking for in a SG and shared that no mocks have him going first round. He has said he’s only staying in if he gets a first round guarantee so what do you keep basing all this 50/50 talk on? Is it just your feelings or or you using a source to form your opinion?

Fans are still used to the old ways of thinking around here. College kids, especially kids at UK, will make more money coming back to college than being a 2nd-round pick (which Oweh isn't right now).

I've never been quite as confident as others here, when a player goes to these draft combines, tests the draft waters, etc.. because to me, its showing their intent. They really want to get to the NBA, and players like Lowe or Oweh are really trying to find a way they can land in the top30 or top60 or whatever. And theres nothing wrong with that at all... but it feels like when these decisions happen, its telling you what the player would "prefer".

I mean let's be real, Oweh isn't going to this draft to "find out where to improve his game".. hes got an entire camp, and data, and phone calls that can tell him that. He probably knows exactly what he needs to do to get to the NBA. Instead, what guys like him are trying to get is some numbers of teams to say "yes, we will draft you at X draft spot if youre there", and if you get enough of them, then you stay in the draft.

Still think he and Lowe come back because their draft stocks are very low.. but im a little colder on their chances of doing so, more than most here

It is for guys who are gonna make 3M plus. Family set or not that is a chunk of change for himself.

Very well stated, and something that I’ve been saying for weeks. “Going to get feedback” line is garbage because it’s well known what needs to be worked. I’m pretty sure it’s no different than what Pope told him in their end of season meeting.

I still think he returns, but he’s definitely looking for something that makes his ears perk up.

There’s no chance he goes and I usually don’t project using absolutes. He’s probably going to make at least 3.5 million next season at UK. He can’t do that at the NBA level. He doesn’t shoot, finish, or dribble well enough for a draft pick paying as much as he’ll make here.

I have met with Oweh several times. He’s a great guy, one of the nicest and humble guys I’ve ever met at UK. Doesn’t take himself all that serious and absolutely loves UK. He always dreamed of playing for a program like this. Oweh wants to come back to UK and the money points to UK. I would be totally shocked if he stayed in the draft at this point.

Some are not used to this situation from growing up in the Calipari era. It’s gonna take those a while. Others are probably just paranoid from the 15 Calipari years. Others, well, trolling.

Where are you seeing him projected in the 2nd round?
If he's the projected 59th pick, he would be a fool to roll the dice on that and give up the money UK is slated to pay him.

You just made this topic up out of whole cloth. He hasn't even had his workouts yet or received any feedback. Oweh is going to go through the process. The Combine doesn't even start until May 11th.

No, I’m basing it on my own opinion. We used to call this a “gut feeling” before we could find a source to substantiate anything on the internet.
