If DJ Wagner stays healthy he will be a problem this year.

Actually Briscoe, or Andrew Harrison aren't bad comparisons. Although they are a bit bigger than he is. And he's about in between the 2 of them when it comes to shooting.
Briscoe was a master around the rim for someone 6'1 and below average D1 athletic ability

Im getting just about tired of the Briscoe slander around here. Ive dealt with it for nearly 10 years now. You guys are skating on thin ice

Is it crazy to think that an SEC All Freshmen-team player would be a decent player in their sophomore season?
i dont 'hate' wagner. i think he is a good player that was hurt most of the year. but i also think he is a player that is one dimensional, cant shoot and matured early and people caught up with him. will be, and has been, exposed by good defenses

I think Wagner will have a better year than last year. He is a pretty good defender and I think he'll probably finish better around the rim for Arkansas, but his outside shooting will always be a problem for him. He will be a very good (not great) college player.

I don't wish him ill will (except when playing us).

But he needs to learn to finish at the rim. I've never seen that high of a recruited player miss so many layups. Killed us time and time again last year.

When we play Arkansas, we should be able to draw at least 5 charges that game. On offense we should drive the ball because they will not know how to draw a charge, they won't practice that, instead rely on athleticism which will get exposed by a good coach.
Unless he developed a legit 3 point shot then defenses will just do what they do and collapse on him. Especially one that knows how to play zone.
I don't recall a single instance when Cal turned a non-shooter into a shooter. Because DJ's court speed allowed him to blow by most high school opponents for layups, he never took the time to develop a shot and I don't see Cal turning that around.

I hope he shows up to kick butt and chew bubblegum, but he’s out of gum.

I hope he does that against everyone but us.

He will be a tricky matchup for us I think.

He will flourish like Dillingham did this past season. Injuries held him back

If the court was only 4 inches longer, he could've been all conference.

The drawing charges days seem to be over. Praise the lord.
It has to be a chicken wing hook or egregious lowering of the shoulder.
The floparino is basically through.
Suck it dookies and toothbeaks.

Teams always hurt us with it, all of those all Americans we had always thought they could drive by anybody, and we usually ran over people 3 or 4 times a game. Good teams that are well coached use it and we should too.

They basically stopped calling it last year with the new flopping rule being a flagrant. Even duke floppies weren't getting the call.

I think he will be really good myself. He was one I had wanted back.
I think he will have a good season but he isn't a good shooter and I doubt that changes much. I have nothing against him. But it's best he moved on. Pope gers to start with a complete new roster. No leftovers from Cal. I'm not including walkons as leftovers.

I do think he will be good. Not great, but good.
When healthy last year he was good.

His 3pt shot wasn't bad. The problem with it was that it was often flat. Usually, a result of trying to get it off quicker (so not get blocked).
But for us I think both Butler and Oweh can match up with his strength pretty well.

J.Davis is going to be their best player.
M.Teague is his peak imo. His first step isn’t lightning quick. He doesn’t elevate over ppl w explosiveness. He’s a downhill driver using his stout body to play through contact and an average shooter and average ball handler.

He either needs to greatly improve his release time and accuracy/range or greatly improve his vision and become pass first like Chris Paul. As he stands…his ceiling is really solid college PG. nothing to be scared of but a great piece to have if he accepts he isn’t “the” dude

Briscoe is one of the worst gets in the Calipari era. Should've went to St. John's where they'd have loved how he handled the ball and had tricks, couldn't shoot and was a rotten PG. The '17 team was best when it was Fox/Monk/Hawkins and '16 was better with him out of the lineup as well. That Briscoe/Matthews/Wynyard "era" was the program getting full of themselves and not working hard enough. Throw in Skal and the plan to make him play like AD....it was tough to watch.

For anyone who talks of how he didn't get to play PG-he did--had opportunities with Fox out (had some DNP's due to injuries) and put team in holes that they needed dramatic comebacks in spite of his awful play and they had to put Dom in to fix the wrongs Briscoe got them in. Slice pushed this on Cal and it was a bad take/get. Thankfully Murray reclassified for the '16 team or they'd have been an NIT team. '17 had Fox/Monk and great SR in Hawkins. Briscoe was a horrible fit for Kentucky/vice versa. He could've been like that kid he played AAU with who went to Seton Hall and Big East announcers went nuts when he'd have 4-18 FG games under Kevin Willard. Was once very heavy but got in shape and forgot about him because he was so unwatchable but the media loved him/talked him up for NPOY at starts of his last 2 seasons and it was embarrassing.

DJ Wagner showed maturity in returning to CBB for a 2nd yr where he's actually in the age group/class he should've been in age wise for incoming Freshmen. If Cal plays him at PG, that will be a colossal flop but if he's off the ball and defers to Boogie Fland-they'll be a really fun team to watch and win a lot of games.

He does not have the same game as Dilly Dilly did. He is not a heady ball player. That being said. I could care less what season he has as long as he sucks against us each and every time. I hope we beat them in Rupp, in Nashville, In NCAA tourney. Or better yet I hope they lose to us in Rupp, lose their first game in SEC tourney and do not make NCAA.

Brevity is the soul of wit.
Seems like a well thought out point.
Too long to read.
Followed by another fairly long post.
Carry on.
