Full disclosure, I couldn't stand Tubby at the end. He was almost Cal-like. Borderline lazy and completely stubborn about evolving. First thing I thought when I read OPs title, that's a huge slap in the face to OTS. That guy was blazing hot when UK hired him.

There was a time in which they banned UK fans for posting anything negative about UNC on Rupp Rafters. JPScott was banned and he hadn't posted on their site in a long while when he was banned.

Depends if Caleb Wilson is interested in an education...is he interested in taking classes? Is he interested in working towards a degree? If he is not, then hands down the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is the place for him. He goes there, they give him his degree of choice, and never has to find a a classroom...Can't beat that.

If you wanna know why UNC, Kansas, Duke and now Uconn have usurped us as the top dog in the sport over the last 40 years this is exhibit A. They just want it more and their not afraid to make changes.

Quite simply, we’ve shown we just don’t want it as bad in our unwillingness to do the things that the other top programs are to win. That’s disappointing to me since its clear the sports governing body can’t control it. We’ve fallen behind because we’re playing scared.

Also, you can call a lot of Uconn’s success lucky. I’d argue the Kevin Ollie title was certainly that. But look how fast they moved on from him. They self investigated and self reported major violations so they could fire him with cause just 4 years removed from a natty. And that’s ultimately why they got Hurley and are back on top again.

I only remember Mike Wilbon beating that drum. But i mostly stopped watching PTI when it became painfully clear they didn’t really pay much attention to college basketball. Wilbon and Kornehiesers takes on the sport in general we’re often comically bad.

there are some sportscasters and media that criticize the firing/moving on of any coach. A lot of them are just the ultimate coaching/leaderships stans. Vitale is the biggest example. I’d pass out from surprise if i ever heard any of them endorse a performance related coaching termination.

And we didn’t even fire tubby and probably weren’t going to. The rumor back the was Mitch was just going to and force more staff changes on him. Tubby didn’t want to have to let his assistants go so he bailed.

It wasn’t luck. After the Valentine’s Day massacre the team took over and coached themselves.

Tubby did have the good sense to stay out of the way.

It was all the players and their prior preparation.

I didn’t think so at the time. But then I saw that Tubby never won anything after that. Anywhere.

Then checked on his prior to UK career and he never won anything before either.

So what’s the aberration, that one year or the rest of his career?
