I've said this before. He wasn't gonna do better than season 1. He isnt a good coach.
I will hold him in high esteem for knocking Duke and Paolo out of the final four.

That's an insult to Tubby. Tubby had some good years after the title. Oh, and he won a title. Davis has a win over Duke (a much appreciated win over Duke I might add) and that's about it.

Man, that's still one of the best tourney wins EVER for us. I thoroughly enjoyed taking them down.
Don’t forget that UNC was a bubble team a week before his first tournament. UNC went on a run during last week and NCAA tournament. Think they were an 8 seed. He would be feeling serious heat if they didn’t make that NCAA run his first year.
I’m guessing they’ll be okay in a weak ACC and get a 5-7 seed. I have no idea how UNC fans fill about that if he gets knocked out in S16.

Im good with that. A shitty team we don’t need to fear padded by a weak ACC so his seat doesn’t get tooo warm.
I’m certainly not convinced they’re world beaters, but all 5 of their losses are against good to great teams, and a lot of the metrics still think they’ve played like a fringe top 25 team. It isn’t that outrageous to expect them to bounce back and win most of their games in what looks like a down year for the ACC.
Your clam of "great success" his first year is debatable. Davis' first team was actually disappointing and underachieved in the regular season ....stumbling into the tournament as a mere 8 seed ...but in the tourney got hot and finally started to play the way its talent should have with a final four run.
In that sense, I don't really see it as comparable to Tubby's 98 team (which exceeded expectations all season long), but instead far more similar to Cal's 2014 team, when our consensus pre-season No. 1 ranked team had a disappointing, dysfunctional, underachieving regular season ....but later had its sins washed clean when it as an 8 seed got hot with that final four run (with heavy thanks to Aaron Harrison).

He put a stake in K twice. His last home game and last opportunity for a title. That alone buys him at least another year.
It was also maybe the best tournament game I've ever watched. Just a phenomenal game.
Iirc even the deep run he had was because he had one guy catch fire right at the end of the season. The next season they flopped even with the same team and its downhill from there.

Bout the only “Carolina man” left is Wes Miller from Cincy. Not sure he’s done anything to justify getting that job. Neither had Hubert, though. He just had Roy’s blessing… kinda like Brooks and Joker.
Evidently the powers don’t want Miller. I always thought they’d pull Stackhouse from Vandy but didn’t. The system of Dean E Smith fraud is so complicated it would be very difficult to find someone who would be willing to immerse themselves in the fraud. It is like John Grisham’s The Firm.
He knows where all the bodies are buried. That is the type of program that needs to promote loyalists.
