How long can Stoops hang onto his job? Will we be forced for 2 or 3 more years because of the buyout or will the administration make a move? Is this team already lost? Going to be interesting how it all plays out. I know it's a huge buyout, but if things really go south then I cant seehim surviving another season. My prediction, this is his last year.

The is ZERO chance he is fired after this year. None. Mitch wouldn't do it regardless if there was a buyout or not and the fact there is a $47 million buyout makes it impossible.

Can you drop the Stoops hate for a while? It's getting old.

Stoops will never be fired by Mitch. If we had a real football oriented AD, our stadium wouldn’t be called “kroger field”.

Things are changing with the fields now. Arky has just signed a deal with Tyson Foods and Walmart to have their logos on their field. I only seen that posted at one place so it could be a joke I bit on. But our board was asking who we would like on our field and the most popular were Delta, Coke and Waffle House. So at the time the Kroger Field thing was questionable but now it looks like UK was the trend setter.

100% correct Grumpy but calling UK a trend setter is more than the nay sayers can handle. Hell, even TN is in praise of Lot Lizzards everywhere. 🤣

Things can happen in mysterious ways... see Cal to arkansas.

Just my opinion but 2025 will be the earliest that Stoops gets canned. I do think the obscene buyouts in Stoops contract is a sign of pure malfeasance on Barnhart’s part. Someone please tell me Stoops still isn’t getting the automatic one-year extension for getting to 7 wins(?).

I believe UK was the 4th P5 school to get naming rights for their stadium and it was the most lucrative of all the deals. It wasn’t common at all at the college level.
This isn't rocket surgery, if somebody wants to give you major skrilla for naming rights take the money and run.

Don't know about an extension but he probably gets a bonus for so many wins and/or a bowl. About all coaches contracts are written as such.

Between the buyout and being the winningest coach in program history, I think he’s pretty much here as long as he wants to be. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s very likely already peaked and worry that he’s actually starting to regress now in terms of success. I just have a hard time envisioning a scenario where we fire him.

If he were to only win 3-5 games all year, how could they bring him back. They could, but I can't imagine how bad it would be. And under that scenario if you do bring him back and next year is just as bad, the money they would start to lose from so many people checking out could start to be competitive with his buyout. At some point firing him becomes a risk/reward decision. And it might, for the program overall be better to do it sooner rather than later.

Another couple of games like SC this year might be a definitive test.

He'll step down, they'll negotiate a buyout.

Ultimately the fans hold the real power. Because if they stop going to the games, start to not care etc. Mitch and the powers that be would have no choice. Because the diminishing returns you start to accumulate as a program start looking worse than the buyout itself. Now I'm not suggesting people stop going to the games. I'm saying under the right circumstances that are starting to look plausible they will. And if that starts to happen, do you really want to let it drag out?

Stoops isn't getting fired after this year, even if we lose every game moving forward. Nobody is paying the 40 million dollar buy-out. He could leave for another program on his own terms, or something crazy like that, but that would be about it. Mitch is absolutely retarded when it comes to these buy-outs. Here we are, like 2-8 over our last 10 games at home, Stoops is being paid top 10 money in the country, and we aren't even a top 10 program in our conference. Right now we are near the bottom, and we have no way to get out of this mess, because of the buy-out.

Stoops like Cal isn’t going anywhere unless he leaves voluntarily. He had too much “success” for them to give him the boot just a few years after his second 10 win season. Unfortunately

We're on probation.

May not constitute cause, but, as other programs have demonstrated, cause is not all that high of a hurdle if the team continues to look utterly unprepared for every remaining opponent not named Murray St or Ohio...and, make no mistake, we were utterly unprepared for and, arguably, outmanned against South stinkin' Carolina!

Worse. Perhaps our most egregious weaknesses/failures were all too familiar.

We're now in our 3rd season of below average Oline performance and at least two seasons of substandard secondary play. It occurs to me that if the coaches knew how to fix these persistent problems, they'd have fixed them by now - but...they haven't.

With the new season underway and the coaches & roster set, it's damned difficult to foresee any significant improvement this season in those two position groups.

In the absence of significant improvement in the performance of those two position groups, it's simply delusional to look for improved results on the field.

All that said, I won't be at all surprised if this season turns out to be CMS' last at UK.

MB may not want to initiate it, but, given any additional CMS or program noncompliance missteps, however minor, the big boy boosters may force his hand.

I agree EXCEPT ..... our AD has already provided the coaching staff and administration top cover by saying essentially "Fortunately no one on the coaching staff knew about the no-show jobs..." which to the average observer is an indictment of the coaches and compliance team in its own right.

Our AD is not built to seize this opportunity, and the UK President is asleep at the wheel.

At a place like TENNESSEE, the President, power brokers, and boosters would have (1) gone into action at the first indication of a problem, (2) conducted the internal investigation rapidly, (3) determined "cause, " (4) discharged the underperforming head coach without a buyout (and maybe the AD too), AND THEN (5) self reported to the NCAA while (6) simultaneously leveraging the HC firing to mitigate the NCAA punishment down to practically no-punishment.

Presto.....at "anywhere else in the SEC," we would've been in a position to make a smart hire of a new coach with no buyout.

Not at UofK.

Delta Field at Coca-cola Stadium wouldn't be too bad, actually. Stadium could be called the Coke Can and the field is where bulldogs fly.

So, we should be like the Tennessee football program?
No thanks, I would rather go 0-12.

Post of the week. This is exactly how the rest of the SEC behaves. Ed Ogeron was 45 & 15 and won a title at LSU, and they fired him.

UT signed a deal with Jimmy Haslam/Pilot.

Unless Stoops quits or takes another job, he will be here next season. He is owed too much money to fire him, and Barnhart will not and cannot let him go during or after this season.

I started to post a snappy comeback then realized how fragile you guys must be after last Saturday.
We know when to expect you, win a couple of games and you come here seeking approval. It's NC/Heisman or Bust for Rocky Flop.

I said it in other threads already, but the buyout isn't that big of a deal now. We're saving like $4+ million from the Pope contract and if we go after Sumrall, that's probably another $4+ million saved. That leaves $8+ million to go toward the Stoops buyout each year. They'll likely settle for less and you don't have to pay it out all at once. Pay like $25 million over 5 years and you're actually a few million a year still ahead.

Well, I posted here right before the season started, but ok. I don't expect Nico to win the Heisman this year; the media has already appointed Quinn Ewers, with good reason. I also certainly don't expect to win the NC, or even the conference with UGA , and even Texas, in the way. But if UT can get to the playoffs, then certainly there is a chance. But I need to see how Nico/UT plays once conference play starts. NC State has a solid defense, but I want to see how Nico performs against SEC defenses. I also need to see how our secondary does against some prolific passers. But I am certainly optimistic at this point.

I think best case for all involved is he ekes out 7 wins and takes a lateral job. Maybe Ferentz hangs it up. It’s pretty simple. If you intend to play conservative hard nosed football, you have to be extremely disciplined and mistake free. Especially when you don’t have the top dudes. He hasn’t achieved that in a good while. Maybe he can get back to that somewhere else. But i think with the gauntlet that is the SEC, he is trapped in a mindset of being held hostage by knuckleheads with a lot of talent.
