The is ZERO chance he is fired after this year. None. Mitch wouldn't do it regardless if there was a buyout or not and the fact there is a $47 million buyout makes it impossible.

I only seen that posted at one place so it could be a joke I bit on. But our board was asking who we would like on our field and the most popular were Delta, Coke and Waffle House. Don't know about an extension but he probably gets a bonus for so many wins and/or a bowl. About all coaches contracts are written as such.

If he were to only win 3-5 games all year, how could they bring him back. They could, but I can't imagine how bad it would be. And under that scenario if you do bring him back and next year is just as bad, the money they would start to lose from so many people checking out could start to be competitive with his buyout. At some point firing him becomes a risk/reward decision. And it might, for the program overall be better to do it sooner rather than later.

Ultimately the fans hold the real power. Because if they stop going to the games, start to not care etc. Mitch and the powers that be would have no choice. Because the diminishing returns you start to accumulate as a program start looking worse than the buyout itself. Now I'm not suggesting people stop going to the games. I'm saying under the right circumstances that are starting to look plausible they will. And if that starts to happen, do you really want to let it drag out?

Stoops isn't getting fired after this year, even if we lose every game moving forward. Nobody is paying the 40 million dollar buy-out. He could leave for another program on his own terms, or something crazy like that, but that would be about it. Mitch is absolutely retarded when it comes to these buy-outs. Here we are, like 2-8 over our last 10 games at home, Stoops is being paid top 10 money in the country, and we aren't even a top 10 program in our conference. Right now we are near the bottom, and we have no way to get out of this mess, because of the buy-out.

May not constitute cause, but, as other programs have demonstrated, cause is not all that high of a hurdle if the team continues to look utterly unprepared for every remaining opponent not named Murray St or Ohio...and, make no mistake, we were utterly unprepared for and, arguably, outmanned against South stinkin' Carolina!

Worse. Perhaps our most egregious weaknesses/failures were all too familiar.

We're now in our 3rd season of below average Oline performance and at least two seasons of substandard secondary play. It occurs to me that if the coaches knew how to fix these persistent problems, they'd have fixed them by now - but...they haven't.

With the new season underway and the coaches & roster set, it's damned difficult to foresee any significant improvement this season in those two position groups.

In the absence of significant improvement in the performance of those two position groups, it's simply delusional to look for improved results on the field.

All that said, I won't be at all surprised if this season turns out to be CMS' last at UK.

MB may not want to initiate it, but, given any additional CMS or program noncompliance missteps, however minor, the big boy boosters may force his hand.

Our AD is not built to seize this opportunity, and the UK President is asleep at the wheel.

At a place like TENNESSEE, the President, power brokers, and boosters would have (1) gone into action at the first indication of a problem, (2) conducted the internal investigation rapidly, (3) determined "cause, " (4) discharged the underperforming head coach without a buyout (and maybe the AD too), AND THEN (5) self reported to the NCAA while (6) simultaneously leveraging the HC firing to mitigate the NCAA punishment down to practically no-punishment.

Presto.....at "anywhere else in the SEC," we would've been in a position to make a smart hire of a new coach with no buyout.
