Has their been any mention of a Cam Johnson visit?

brianpoe,

I'm sure your mind has already been made regarding Cameron Johnson. That he is at most a role player after posting some of those game stats. Lets look at his stats in the ACC before he blew up @UNC a little closer...

ND - 14 points
VA - 16 points
@Cuse - 7 points (1-7 from 3)
@UL - 2 points (1-6 from 3) 4 fouls early in 2nd
Miami - 8 points (26 pt loss)
@NC ST - 17 points
UL - 3 points (52 pt loss)
Clemson - 16 points
THEN BOOM!
@UNC - 24 points

OF COURSE players have off nights. OFF COURSE bad teams get blow out and rest their starters for most of the second half.

Johnson impressed me by averaging nearly 14 ppg in ACC games where the final score was within 12 points up until he blew up for 24 @ the NCAA Champions arena.

After scoring 24 vs. The NCAA Championship Heels (Ugh...), did he have a massive drop off proving a fluke night? Actually, no.
@Duke - 3 points
@BC - 7 points
Cuse - 17 points
VA Tech - 22 points
FSU - 10 points
@WF - 9 points
UNC - 9 points (lost by 18)
@ VA Tech - 13 points
@VA - 9 points (lost by 25)

Even after his big coming out party @UNC, in competitive games he still averaged almost 12 ppg.

All in all, in competitive games in the ACC, Johnson actually averaged MORE points, almost 13ppg, than he did for his season average.

He is a straight up BALLER that rises to the occasion when it is needed the most. Exactly what I like to see. Especially compared to players that average 20ppg to OOC scrubs and 10ppg to in conference opponents. Even more so in a conference as good as the ACC was last season.

24 points @ UNC wasn't a fluke. Just an example of him rising to the occasion when winning is on the line.

All in my completely worthless opinion as always.

Pitt people I was referring to = articles from their sites, forum posts claiming Calipari "Stole another. Wonder what he cost." LOL, and lastly via a local sports talk show in Pittsburgh via my cousin who recently moved there and finds their sports radio horrible. Says that finding any show about college is impossible. Ha ha.

Apparently, on a "Panthers Sports" show they were discussing basketball. Topics were, if Stallings can turn them into a winner, and how they'd replace their big 2 SRs (Artis & Young) along with "the rat jumping ship", Cameron Johnson. The announcer and his partner acted like he was Kentucky's to lose with Michigan and Florida likely coming up short. Their conclusion was that Cam wanted to be drafted and the best place to do that would be Kentucky under Calipari. They brought up WCS and Patterson as players he has made more attractive to the NBA after being in college for a bit.

That last part sounded confusing to me. WCS would've prob gone lottery as a SO and I can't believe they'd even remember Patterson, but oh well.

That's second hand information coming from my cousin living in Pitt while bleeding blue and hating the constant talk about the Eagles. He says that Eagles talk even happens on top 40 radio. Ha ha.

Like a completely different world than what he's used to down here.

not korver at creighton, but korver as ring-chasing nba role player

johnson was the 3rd leading scorer on a truly execrable ACC team

catch and shoot specialist imo

I think we are just going to have to agree to disagree.

We won't be changing each other's mind. Especially in the preseason. Ha ha.

I see Cam as a player that continues to work hard and improve greatly, year after year, as evidenced by his improving stats across the board, graduating in 3 years with a 3.9 GPA as a NCAA academic AA, and a player we could REALLY use to hold down the 3, shoot the lights out, and give us needed experience.

I'm not saying my opinion is extremely better than yours, I just respectfully disagree with your assessment.

If we get him, I hope I'm right. If not, I hope that you are :)

At the end of the day we are all Kentucky fans obsessed with the greatest collegiate team in history!

It'll be another fun year next year no matter what happens. Calipari is the greatest!

I have a better comparison for Cam Johnson, how about a more athletic/experienced version of what Wiltjer added in 2012? Kyle averaged 5 a game as the 7th man in 2012 and was pretty reliable to come in and spread the floor. His putrid D did not matter because AD/Jones were grabbing every board and swatting anything that came through. Wiltjer just being able to add that off the bench was very valuable.

I really could see Cam being able to do more than Kyle did and would not have to do a lot more. With a lot of front court players and drivers, he really would get opportunities to just hit shots and change a game with just his presence.

Johnson has been pretty similar to this point of his career.

Johnson was the third leading scorer on a bad Pitt team who finished next to last in an overhyped ACC. He has never played with the cast of players Miller did. Miller was much better. Johnson will never start at Kentucky, except on senior night, IMO.

Most would disagree with you regarding Cam, but I'll just let his game do the talking wherever he ends up.

Florida has pulled its name from the hat and is no longer pursuing Cam.

Uk was leading anyway, but Florida was closest competition. Michigan still in the mix, but looking like Cam will be a cat.

If we get him, I hope I'm right. If not, I hope that you are :)

i lived in pittsburgh for years. was wondering if johnson would leave pitt once the mass exodus started, and, knowing he's from moon twp & that cal recruited his father, was hoping we'd get involved once he decided to do so

my only point was that if johnson is better than knox--a top 10 player in this class--it's not necessarily a great sign for uk, as at this point it's likely the entire starting lineup will be players from the 2017 class

Good to hear about FL dropping out. Would LOVE to have him on next year's team. If for nothing more than light's out shooting and 3 years experience. Plus, the perfect platlyer to destroy a zone defense at 6'8" and 42% from 3.

JohnnyGentle, I get what you are saying. I just disagree with Knox and his skill set concerning UK. Knox is a better pro prospect right now, but I don't think he is nearly as great of a fit in college for Kentucky next year as Johnson is.

I think we are a better team with Johnson at the 3 than Knox on next year's team.

Sure, Knox could be a OAD drafted in the 1st round, but I don't think that will be as needed on UK's team next year as Johnson would be. Despite Johnson being unlikely to be a1st round draft pick. I think Johnson will be a much better college player next year, and think that is what we need. I think Knox will need time to adjust to the college game and see his game making him a better pro than collegiate player.

That's all just my worthless opinion, as always. Thanks for having a cordial conversation comparing the 2. I respect your viewpoint of the situation, even though I do not agree with it. I hate it when differing opinions end up with 2 posters arguing with each other to no avail and feel like most everyone sees that since Cam is a JR he won't be able to contribute to a UK team full of top FR. I think that's a silly way to look at things, but whatever floats your boat!

Do you think Stallings will last at Pitt, they are in for a TOUGH year with Young, Artis, and Cam all gone next year?
