I'm guessing that quite a few people involved with college athletics will have trouble sleeping tonight. We've laughed and then cried about what the NCAA will and eventually will not do with various investigations, but now we're talking about a federal investigation into the money flow from athletic apparel companies to and through universities to 'unpaid' student-athletes.

If the criminal aspect is that this is surrounding universities and academics, when might someone suggest just cutting that part out? These basketball prep academies aren't high schools in the academic sense of the word and we would all assume the same type of thing is going on. Hell, why don't the shoe companies just form their own league and pay these kids that currently spend a year or two in college?

I'm just getting off work and catching up, but needless to say, the reaction from Louisville is night and day different from WhoreGate. Rick and Tommy together holding a presser, indignant, defiant. My point being that someone else is handling this. That cut and dried statement that was released is not them. At minimum Rick is gone. Maybe Tomma stays by sacrificing Rick, but if the new president wants to consolidate power, this is his chance to get Jurich with full media and fan support. Strike while the iron is hot.

The University of Louisville has always wanted its basketball program to be on par with the University of Kentucky, which set the bar for corruption in college basketball for five decades.

Congratulations, Cardinals fans. Not only are you on par with UK, you have surpassed big brother.

Feel free to walk through the streets of downtown Lexington and ask, "Who's your daddy?"

That's a ham samich. Whew buddy.

the sordid Karen Sypher affair in which Pitino was schtupping the waitress after-hours on a table in a Lexington Road restaurant wasn't enough for you, how 'bout the abortion she got after he gave her $3,000.

No problem, Jurich said.

And if the abortion wasn't enough for you, how 'bout inviting prostitutes into the University of Louisville basketball dorm to — ahem — recruit 16- and 17-year-old kids.

I got your back, buddy, Jurich said.

And if paying for sex to get basketball recruits wasn't enough for you, we have what looks to be secretly recorded evidence that shows a University of Louisville coach talking about sending $100,000 to the father of a prized recruit.

If
That came just weeks after the NCAA announced penalties for the "hooker-shot" scandal that could require forfeiting the 2013 national championship.

We don't know what Jurich, who has spent the last decade filling his pockets with cash from the University of Louisville Foundation, has to say about this. He's not talking. It's the coward's way out.

Editor's note: This column was changed to reflect the correct location of the restaurant where Rick Pitino had an affair with Karen Sypher.

:joy:

This is NOT from the Onion.....

Saudi Arabia will now allow women to drive. Breaking news. Just saw it on Yahoo. Good lord.

:joy::joy:

The Sypher thing was so Louisville. She was some drunk floozy who threw herself at Pitino and he, being Rick Pitino, gave her the fifteen seconds of her life.

He shouldn't have cheated on his wife and he should not have lied about it. But rather than just being a grown man about the situation, the lying bastard married her to a staff member in the weirdest situation ever.

Because that is exactly who you want around the program.

And then - lo and behold -- she extorted him.

That is why UK fans relish this.

It has been a long time a-coming.

So there was a UL coach in Las Vegas at the time of the meeting*. Jordan Fair.

This is his first season as a full time assistant coach with UL because he was brought on to replace...Mike Balado. You can't make this shit up

Edit: Of course there was, but Jody Demling innocuously tweeted about it at the time it happened

"and for decades the most lucrative hoops program in America, prepare for your demise"

That quote in Forde's column, anyone know how much hyperbole that is? Has it even been 11 years? Is that what counts as multiple decades now? Genuinely curious, don't know how long they've been on their bragging on profitability kick.

I realize that he had to make a statement but Mark Emmert's statement makes the NCAA look like a bunch of idiots.

"Hey guys, we just found out that there was rampant fraud and payment of players going on for years under our watch, but remember no athlete got extra bagels that an ordinary student couldn't get!"

Prediction:

Pitino retires. He’s loved coaching for decades, but he can no longer stomach being lied to and used by the degenerates around the profession. He needs a break and thinks it would be best for him to retire and focus on his family and his personal goals.
