Nah, I don’t think it is the expectation.

What we would consider starter homes are now higher than the wages that are supposed to attract starter home buyers.

I feel bad for the 20-somethings. Unless they are married or have family connections, they are going to be stuck renting for a long time and rents are crazy.

House across the street from us just sold for $360k, a little over 2000 sq ft, 3 bedroom 2 and 1/2 bath, basement den, in a good elementary school district. Perfect home for a young family with kids.

Sold to first time home buying, newly engaged, mid-20 something, who’s parents helped with the down payment.

Local Property Tax on our house eclipsed the $12k mark in 2023… one of the lowest amounts in the County…

People on Long Island are typically double ours.

Blue state bonanza.

* I'm, of course, a huge socialist and count on the government to fix everything, and trust them implicitly, so I can say with 100% certainty that there needs to be something done to help the little guy. Our economy here in the Big Easy is actually not particularly strong, the population is actually shrinking, and if you're looking for a starter home, your expense is something like this.....

- at least $2-300k price tag bare minimum
- $5-10,000/year in home insurance
- 6-8% mortgage
- $1000+/year flood insurance
- $2000+/year taxes

Glad I started young and early.

* Major league debut for Yosver Zulueta last night. Was the Blue Jays #3 prospect last year and they eventually just gave up on him. The Reds picked him up off waivers. Live arm but suspect control. He's been excellent this year in AAA and looked great in 3 innings of work. Hope to see him continue to get chances.

* My first house cost $111,000 and my rate was around 5%. I think I had about a $5,000 down payment, and my mortgage was around $700 all in. Gonna be telling that story to my grandkids decades from now.

* The CES saga is ridiculous. Got hit on the hand April 27th, and stayed off the DL since the Reds didn't want to lose him for 10 days. Came back and played 4 more games after doctors found nothing of concern on his MRI. Then hit the DL, got another MRI, and found a new broken bone and ligament damage they hadn't seen before. Still waited 6 weeks before deciding to have surgery. Now, it turns out the doctor is booked up until July 11, so he's scheduled to finally go under the knife and shut down the season for good in 2 weeks. WTF?

* Alex Morgan left off the USWNT >>>> Caitlin Clark left off the USWNT

Alex is a 10.

First house was small, had no yard, neighbors got raided by KSP one afternoon, I’m pretty sure I saw a kid across the street take a dump in this front yard, but had a little pool in the back.

I loved it. I don’t know why we moved. #smuglyfe

Hopped on Twitter a few minutes ago to check out the results from a local baseball showcase. Immediately saw another video of man being decapitated by bus. JUST BECAUSE I WATCH IT DOESNT MEAN I WANT TO SEE IT ELON

Entirely possible. My 3yo insisted on getting a prime hydration drink from the concession stand a few weeks ago and then started singing “WE GOT PRIME BOYS WE GOT PRIME” which is apparently a viral video about that drink. Even my 3 year old is more plugged in to the web than I am

2.85% rates and also a massive surplus of money. 45 year mortgage loans here we come!

I'd argue the increase in M1 did it more than anything else.

I just saw on Zillow a house that needs to be demolished along with 9 acres of mostly wooded and hilly outcropping land for $125,000. For rural KY that is insane.

And that man? Tommy Cakes, Genovese crime family member. RIP Mr. Cakes

- I joined our neighborhood facebook group shortly after we moved in last fall, mainly to see who the rabblerousers and whiners were so I can do my best to avoid them, especially after the baby comes. Mostly it's benign questions about recommended cleaning companies, nannies, local businesses, but some of the people on there are so GD stupid I wonder how they maintain employment sufficient to pay for their home. And no one tops our next door neighbors. Highlights of what a dumb**** he is, just from the last six months:
  • Posted multiple times about "wildfires" related to the controlled burn of trees taken down a quarter mile from our backyards and their consternation the fire department wouldn't come because, surprise, the contractors have a burn permit and it was raining the entire time;
  • Ranted that the builder lied to them about keeping trees behind their property, despite a healthy line of trees being maintained between us and the next section of development, which is going to be built by another company entirely;
  • Posted about how the builder must have done a shitty job on their house because "our upstairs is a few degrees hotter than the lower level" and admitted they have zero ceiling fans. He didn't comprehend why so many people responded, hey, you do know heat rises, right?
  • Posted last week that his Spectrum internet is "redicolos" and wanted recommendations for another service. Yes, that was how he spelled "ridiculous" in the year of our lord 2024 when all devices equipped with internet access have automatic spellcheck;
  • Multiple posts bitching about the development continuing to expand, because "it's just such a shame all the wilderness and farm land are being taken by greedy builders." This one is my favorite, because WHERE DID THE LAND FOR YOUR HOUSE COME FROM THEN.
  • After ripping up the netting under the grass seed and letting the yard grow to Jumanji depth, posted asking why they had so many weeds and what lawn service they should hire "just for the first few mows, I have a mower but I want it to be professionally done"
Truly, it is a wonder some people can tie their own shoes in the morning.

- As for me, I will never bitch about the HOA because we don't have any of these scatological shenanigans: Indy HOA board member caught on video pooping on resident's property

I agree that no matter who sang them Blame it on the Rain, Girl You Know it's True, Baby Don't Forget My Number and I'm Gonna Miss You were big hits in the late 80's. I think they had 3 number one singles.
Somewhere in a shoe box in my mom’s basement is a cassette tape from Trax in Lexington’s Festival Market. On it is a young funKYcat absolutely killing (in a good way) “Don’t Forget my Number”. There were several other friends singing too, but I was a microphone hog even as an adolescent.

Once lived in a neighborhood with a HOA and got a letter about a tree and my fence. Fired back a letter to everyone in the neighborhood where I would plant said tree and fence up her ass if she continued. Never had another letter or problem. Then again I’m pretty crazy and don’t mind letting everyone know it.

Not worried about having to be put in a nursing home as I have several kids and grandkids that are caregivers or nurses. Want an inheritance? Take care of the old man. The other option is taking out my boat fishing and loading it up with alcohol and pain meds. Haven’t had either in about 20 years so I should go out pretty quick.
Whoever finds me gets the boat and equipment.

Thinking about buying one of those big drones for getting around. Only takes about 10 minutes to learn to fly them they told me. Could just pop right into a posted lake to fish and fly out quickly if I get caught. Pretty sure the police don’t have them so good luck catching me. Would also cut down on the dumb people that drive and annoy me.

What did the A&M baseball coach mean when he said he “left his family” to coach at a&m? I never heard anyone follow up on that??

And pretzel, I saw the Mr cakes video last week. This is in fact ANOTHER man being decapitated by a moving vehicle. This man was a bicyclist who got too close to a bus. Looked like the helmet actually stayed intact tho so it did its job.

Well. Good thing he wore a helmet.

But for real I never thought of decapitation as a consequence of being a pedestrian/bicyclist struck by a large vehicle. Like, head flying clean off doesn't seem like it's the most likely injury.

Not to be a dick, but doesn’t fWAR favor SS’s? As in, an OFer has to be a significantly better offensive player to have a 7 fWAR than a SS?
Are there any other Shortstops on that list? AROD was at that point in his career.

It must not be that easy for SSs to do it, either. (if that is what you were trying to insinuate)

Gotta admit, getting decapitated by a bus on a bike ride at 86 might be the best death I've ever heard. Quick, painless, and doing what you at least like.

Only Tyrion Lannister has a better plan, imo.

Very fair point... My main contention was that his offensive stats aren't exactly at ARod, Trout, abd Pujols's level. ARod had a 1.000+ OPS in 96. EDC is around .815.

Lol... good point. And I'd be happy if you got decapitated by a truck even now, Hank.

-do those kids/grandkids have jobs? Are you expecting them to quit their job to take care of you? Is the inheritance commensurate to lost income? Are there guarantees? Do they have their own families/kids to look after?

-that's a pretty ****ed up thing to do to your kids/grandkids. Handle your business.
Didn’t he say he has like 10 kids and 20 (and counting) grandkids? Just the ones he knows of so far. That’s plenty of hands on deck.

*Seriously, if you have more than 3 kids and a reasonable number of near adult grandkids that live within 20 minutes of you, it’s not unreasonable at all to expect your progeny to take care of you. At least until you require some kind of specialized medical care.

I would bet about half of them want to give him the pillow over the face treatment
