The pinnacle of college basketball - to me - was the mid-90's. And don't remember anything bigger than those UK-Arkansas battles. I lived in North Carolina, and they'd often cover a local ACC game instead of the Arkansas game on those Saturdays. My dad and I would head to this sports bar called Scoreboard which had stadium seats and a little speaker on the table where you could pick your game. The one I remember most - and was pissed off for a long time - was that 1995 game we lost 94-92. Just great basketball though.
I'm sure it's the pinnacle for most of us. We were teenagers and our team was awesome. College basketball was filled with great players for multiple years. It was such an exciting time.

However, despite no shot clock or three pointer for half the decade, it's hard to top the 80s. There were just so many great finishes.

82-MJ's shot and the beginning of his ascension
83-Lorenzo Charles on the dunk
85-The Perfect Game
87-Keith Smart on the baseline
88-Danny and the Miracles

86 and 89 were also classics with Milt Wagner and Rumeal Robinson coming through in the clutch, respectively.

Of course, the 80s sucked balls for UK. Our 2 main rivals each win 2 titles while Kentucky suffers the worst string of tourney losses in program history. I'm glad I wasn't a teenager in the 80s. I may have killed someone or maybe even myself.

80-lose to Duke in tourney
81-UAB
82-Middle Tennessee
83-UL
84-3/33
86-LSU
88-Nova

Then of course probation, shame, hell.

So yes, the 90s were awesome!

Feeling a little groggy this morning. Stayed up late watching the State of the GYERO. Pretty hilarious how the media covers for Chester Marcol like that, saying he’s easily confused and slurs his words because of a speech impediment. Us reals know he’s just too damn old to post here. And also the drugs.

Saw a kid walking through campus yesterday wearing a duck head sweatshirt. He looked like he came straight out of 1989.

Speaking of back then, grew up with this guy. Always crazy when someone you know takes the wrong path.

Flipping through and saw it for a minute, got some heavy Harry Caray (via Will Ferrell) vibes.

“HAAAAYYY, HAaay, do you want to buy a scalp? Isssa simple yes or no kweshun…”

Which also sent me down that rabbit hole, always amazing.

That 94-95 game against UCLA was the inaugural "John Wooden Classic" and one of the biggest one-sided ref screw-jobs ever witnessed. UCLA was not going to be allowed to lose.

The foul to lose the game with .6 on the clock was pure comedy. McCarty with a clean block sent a FR to the line. Credit the kid for hitting the FTs but good lord.

Also, Mark Pope not handling a bounce pass to turn it over with 15 seconds didn’t help.

Still one helluva game IMO.

- After we lost that ‘95 E8 game (another officiating railroading BTW), Pitino took each returning player to the side and dogcussed TF out of them. I think he made Tony Delk cry.

- Shep in the 99th percentile in:

* Jumpshots
* Catch and shoot
* Three-pointers

- Dillingham’s obviously been hovering Top 10 but I’ve been wondering what was taking people so long to put him Top 5. You just don’t see that combination of playmaking, handle and shooting often. Stack compared him to Kyrie.

- That Shane Gillis Netflix special had me and the wife in tears. Outstanding.

- My most hated Dookie of all-time is Austin Rivers, although a whole bunch of them, really all of them can get F’d.

- That Wall-Boogie podcast episode is a great listen. I have my all-timers - Epps, Turner, Mash, MKG, Ulis, (maybe Shep?), but hard to leave off Wall. He’s just a good dude and trumpets Kentucky as much as any former player.

- Homage calf socks are the all-time greatest sock. I’ll hear no argument.

- We owe these orange bastards one. LFG

  • Wall and Boogie LOVED their time at UK and I think they both regret not staying here longer (even though it made no financial sense to stay). It sounds like the NBA is a damn grind, whereas at UK you get treated like a rock star and life is just a lot easier. Speaking of... somebody give Dilly a check to stay!
  • Braves traded for Jarred Kelenic - who is a 24-year old, former top prospect who played for the Mariners for the last three years (where he struggled). We Braves fans were convinced a change of scenery and the "Braves way" would transform him into an All-Star. So far he's hitting .048 in spring training and slugging .048 too. The tweets from Seattle fans have been ruthless, yet absolutely hysterical. F them though - as both the pitchers we sent them for him are gonna be out with Tommy John surgery.

-Was at the 95 game with Dad. What a shit show. We were staying at Motel, outdoor entrance and all, and after the game some dude runs by our window a couple times buttassnaked. 12 year old Anth was like WTF?

-Watched the 96 Title at Bonnie & Clyde's. Hopefully it's still there.

-Dilly most unique trait is when he skates laterally. Fox kinda did that. I don't know how you keep that little bastard in front of you. He's unreal. Hoping he gets paired with a franchise that can get the most out of him. Has to be the surest bet in the top 10.

-Gillis has some Louis CK to him. He's just f*cking hilarious. The onlyfans skit is great.

-Big Time 3rd Grade BB is over. Mavs had a 2014 like draw in the tourney and upset(🙄 we were better) 3 teams en route to the 'ship game. Lost a heart breaker to a better team. Little man balled out all tourney. On to actual Major League Baseball... every single f*cking day. Why (do?) we do this?!?!

-Speaking of, youth sports brings out the worst of people. We have a few regular coaches that really need to get a grip. Embarrassing.

-Greyson Allen is easily the most hatable. He's just a shitty person.

-Grand Prix in town this weekend, can hear them from my backyard, will probably walk down there here shortly.

Bummer probably can’t take the dog, would likely be way too loud.

Off as always on Sunday for the big race, maybe check it out, only $65 to get in but I’ve heard it’s not great unless you can get in a condo overlooking.

-Got distracted and my dog ate about a half pound of flipping overnight oats, asshole.

If you are standing on 16 tee box at Gay Brewer and look to your right i watched the 96 title game in that house. We then imediately drove downtown in some dudes car and had to leave it overnight on main street because it was a log jam and dumb decision to do that. Im sure that guy had a nice insurance claim. We then walked from downtown to Euclid and Woodland high fiving all the cars along upper and maxwell along the way. I then climbed to the top of the sign and waved a flag(<===thats the only fib to the story but im still not sure how that guy got down)

Are you in this picture? (Actually 98 here)

This is absolutely true across the board. One of our program coaches opened his own batting cage practice facility. If you aren’t in with him or think his idea has any flaws then your kid isn’t included.

His kids are 7-8 and playing GD coach pitch, which by the way he started a travel ball group for this age.

The coach we had for fall ball was fantastic and fun for the kids who had several first time players. Some how this dude got roped in as a travel ball coach, but I’m hoping he remains down to earth.

Mr All in lives 4 houses down from me so we see his overbearing ways, and he hates when we’re out in the cul de sac smashing tennis balls having a blast and his kids want to play but aren’t allowed as fun neighborhood baseball teaches bad habits.

He’s still up to the same antics. The other night he sucker punched SGA in the gut with less than a minute left in a loss to OKC. Looked like he was trying to hit him in the Jimmies but missed. Eff that prick.

Thoughts on Full Swing Season 2? Mine:

- I have a tough time with Rory’s face for some reason. I’m sure many of you feel the same way about me, so whatever.

- I really would have thought Koepka’s wife would be hotter.

- I’m no Florida guy but their homes right on the water with docks are absolutely 🔥.

- Speaking of, West Palm Beach is the weirdest place I’ve ever been. Besides Dayton, Ohio.

- I don’t know- maybe I’m just old school but I like my Paulina blonde.

- As a non-golf fan, I think the show is pretty good. What are the golfballs’ thoughts?

Surprising. What was the deal?

I can’t explain it. It goes from very poor to very wealthy in a hurry but doesn’t have much character at all. And they have like a mini downtown that is very clean but a complete ghost town. Like what are all these buildings even for? It’s just soulless. Even the reservoir seemed odd.

I was actually at a bar with Michael Jordan and Ahmad Rashad so imagine that’s where a lot of those dudes live.

Lots of old money in west palm. They’re not used to anything that rocks the boat at all. Ex and I went there to a marina for her to buy a boat. Salesman just kept talking to me not her. I finally said you’re selling the wrong person man, she’s there one buying the boat.

One minute later he was back to talking to me until I walked away.

Tell you what though, a friend lives (with her parents) in Lantana just south of West Palm in a double digit million dollar house on the inter coastal. Had a lot of fun in that house.

Yes, as Chad said, everything is perfectly designed and manicured in the “downtown”. It’s like if you let Starbucks design a town. There’s no character or soul.

The “dive” bar in Lantana (for the “youngsters” under 50 of course) is on the water with docks, good live music, great seafood and a hefty craft beer selection… super dive-y.

- Chad's clearly been waiting to name-drop Ahmad Rashad for a while now.

- Nobody cares about women's basketballsucka, but if Kyra Elzy is still the Kentucky coach by the end of Monday, Mitch is stealing money. Not sure there's been an easier decision in his tenure, Joker included.

- Robbie Hummel is REALLY good on the mic during games. Should be doing the Final Four within three years if CBS is smart about it.

- Kid comes home for Spring Break tonight. Giddy.

- Maybe I'm just trying to speak this into non-existence, but Scott Drew and UL just don't seem like a fit. They'll obviously be big-name hunting, but they'd be wise to look at a rising star who already has experience building up a program from the ashes. If I'm them, I take a long look at a guy I mentioned in GYERO a while back...Amir Abdul-Rahim from South Florida. Took Kennesaw State from 1 win to 26 (and a tourney bid) in three seasons, and is 22-5 and first-place in the AAC in his first year in Tampa. High-major experience from his time as an assistant at TAMU and UGA. Even spent his first five years as an assistant at Murray State. Recruits like a madman. He won't be a big-enough name for them, but he's gonna make a high-major AD look like a genius real soon.

Seemed to be pretty streaky in SEA, hopefully can get straightened out. If it pans out, Anthopolous is a genius (again).

100%. I’m the AD at a K-8 school. This year had a dad yell at me because my high school girl table worker had the score wrong in a 3rd/4th basketball game. Like, dude, we don‘t keep standings for this league. There is no tournament. It’s a damn running clock…if you care about winning more than your 3/4 grade son, to the degree that you yell about the score being wrong, you gotta reevaluate your life.

-you son of a bitch. Not even top 25... although the Vietnamese toddlers that make them are grateful to earn half a bowl of rice a day from the sweatshop churning them out.

Here you go:

dress: pantherella or dapper classics, must be OTC.

casual: chup or darn tough

Sport/outdoor: darn tough

Some shitdohs:

- Guy Ritchie fans - The Gentlemen ep 1 is fire. On NF.

- Favorite Dukie is Kyrie for single-handedly destroying the narrative Duke used to only get the best AND smartest because they had higher recruiting standards.

- Crazy pup weighed-in at 66.6. Tracks.

- West Palm is north enough to be out of the crazy of S Florida and south enough that it's not too necky. Not a bad area for peace and quiet.

- Office lady's kid and others were on a list from another classmate. Kid was planning to walk up behind those on his list and stab them. Owned up to it and got expelled. Mom picks him up and is heard saying "they did this to you" before f'ing off. Kid is 10.

- One of my college buddies that passed was a huge Jeff Sheppard fan. Not a UK fan but a Jeff Sheppard fan from growing up in the same area as him. We had lost touch when his addition took hold of him and he was no longer the same person but man would I love to be firing texts back and forth for what's unveiling before us with the slow honk that shoots ok when open.

- F1 S6 is good. Hardly anything with Red Bull and Max - which is a disappointment but the rest of the season was fun, quick watch.

- Player's week! Would be more excited but it accompanies the in-laws being here so I have to smoke weed in a closet.

- Probably a month out from the first cannonball. Mow lawn while avoiding heat stroke, dip in pool - repeat as necessary. Picking up the outside beer fridge this afternoon.

- Have seen 1 more shorts of a tire coming off and the car next to them going airborne than I ever wanted to. People forget how frequently the tire shop forgets to tighten the lugs. Check their work before you leave.

- YIL that you can't purchase and take home a washing machine from Home Depot. Delivery only.

- Luckily for you, that's all I have. Be good.

Baseball guy was always insufferable so it is no surprise that baseball dad is equally insufferable.

98% of high school baseball players believe that they could have played college ball and even the minor leagues.

Everyone of my close high school friends that played baseball were destined to be college stars until they started drinking and smoking pot.
