AAU has replaced going to the park/rec league open gym runs. Kids just don’t get together and play like that anymore.

If they go to the gym on their own, their father is a coach with keys (me), OR they are paying a random 24 year old former player to give them “private lessons” (also me).

You almost have to pay to play 5 on 5 anymore unless you’re playing with your high school in the month of June.

Bradshaw, Edwards, and Wagner were our highest rated recruits. Reeves and Thiero were barely top 200 IIRC. The game has changed, and evaluating HS AAU players has become more and more of a crapshoot. Anyone giving a shit about a top HS recruiting class has lost their minds at this point. This was Cals chance to show us his old glory with a top class, and if it wasn’t for his 4th and 5th rated recruits and a last minute transfer from WVU (one a legacy not expected to even contribute) it would’ve been another god awful disaster.

Also, we damn near didn’t have Reeves back and ran off Oscar for Bradshaw.

I never feel good when we play Nate Oats. We are just such an easy scout and he is ruthless with exploiting weaknesses. I’m worried he’ll just spam PnR and ball screens and it’ll be a layup/lob fest.

Who knows - they might be off, we’re at home, maybe we’ll get some calls, etc. We could win. Games like this are just difficult.

Oats is this Bama teams strength. They aren’t overwhelmingly talented like last year though.

I feel like a huge component to us losing to LSU was the bulldog they matched up on Wagner in Hanibal. That dude was a grown ass man and it showed when Wagner couldn’t do anything.

This matchup isn’t going to be close to that as Sears/Wagner is an idea matchup for us, IMO.

From there I like our matchups.
