-from the glad I slept in this morning after staying up to watch superbowl dept... I've gleaned that between 615 and 730 this morning some asshole shot up the office complex I inhabit, in what seems to be some random bullshit.

This framed jersey is about 6 feet from my head whilst seated at my desk.

^still not as unsettling as whateverthe**** cal is doing to my beloved wildcats.

I think those guys can maybe occasionally come over from playing off the ball and block a shot as a help-defender (mostly they dont and it ends up as an easy put back), but as far as just being good defensively I dont think theyve shown much to justify that.

I mean the bar was low for Z but on that side of the ball he's comically bad.

I was beyond adamant the 7 footers wouldn't really affect how we play, or our offense in any dramatic way: Aka, slow down ball, quit shooting 3s, clog the lanes, etc. Our scoring output & offense has been relatively unchanged - definitely hasn't been a complete philosophy change on that end as so many were scared of.

ABSOLUTELY Thought the bigs would help our already-dismal defense, how could it not? Unhappy to admit that was incredibly wrong. It hasn't helped, and it's somehow made the defense/rebounding worse? Never could have dreamed we'd be losing games in Feb while scoring 85-95 points. I mean...

(The SC game clearly an outlier in that regard)

Of course, it also affected the rotation/subs, but that's nothing new. Just hurts extra this year obviously, b/c for once, we're flush with guards/shooters/scorers. But It's really incredible how terrible our bigs are defensively.

Hard to be a serious team in March with NO rim protection or legit big but a Tre/Burks 5* rotation sounds pretty good right about now. If you're gonna be terrible defensively no matter what, which is obviously the case, marcus just go Loyola Marymount.

For all this team's flaws, even if we're a marginal-to-below average (bad) defensive team, that's good enough with our firepower to be elite in 2024 and be as much of a contender as just about anyone outside Purdue/Uconn? Instead, we're historically bad. Coupled with the typical Cal Bullshit, and... fml
Would love to see Burks get some min at the 5. Seems to know where he is always supposed to be and has a bit of size where he’s not constantly at a disadvantage.

Don’t want him at the 2. 😉

Re Lynaugh’a.

A few years ago we played the Cards in football and I took my daughter to the game. It was absolutely pouring and we were kicking their ass, so I told her we’d go watch the 2nd half of the game at the first campus bar I ever ate at when I was close to her age.

We walked into Lynaugh’s and I swear it looked like they hadn’t cleaned that place since 2002. Absolutely disgusting.

So f em. Glad somebody put a bullet in proverbial skull of what was left of a once great establishment.

Man, rudd... ?that's nuts. did you recover the slug for ballistics? (sorry, too much watching the Wire.)

Hate any landmark closing, but I maybe entered Lynaughs twice.

Shamrocks as great as ever tho, of course.

Pro tip: Their weekend breakfast/brunch takes a backseat to Winchell’s only, the 🐐, obviously.

Wanna comfy change with no line & easy seating on a whim for a Fall 🏈 hangover fix? Thank me later. They CRUSH it!

Feel like that’s not very well known, maybe it is?🔥

An O’Round with cheese, a couple of drinks, then head next door to the Emporium for some Born Cross-Eyed or Catawampus was a staple of AW’s younger days around campus.
My buddy Chris is still in Born Cross-Eyed. Jammin in Louisville at Satchels Pawn Shop regularly.

Bar tunes;

Mississippi Blues All Stars and Royal Crescent Mob were local favs for me.

Wife liked The Menus… dude kicking balloons and shit at Phoenix Hill. Love Jones. Love Sauce and Soul Bones.

And they still have O’Rounds on the menu; that are actually better than the original Lynagh’s, IMO. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Some don’t know that Shamrock Patchen was originally “Lynagh’s Shamrock;” used to even have the Lynagh’s bar glass behind the taps until C.O. and Heather bought out Bob completely and cut ties with the original.

Shamrocks is, and always has been, a 9.2 on a true dive’ish BAR food scale.

I get it’s not what most are looking for, but it’s a legit restaurant meal option imo, especially if you’re craving some comfort staples in the most casual environment possible. Or even a soup/salad/special. Rarely have more than a single drink there, if any.

Overall, it’s the definition of an institution, at least around here imo. The whole patchen business setup is just super weird & unique AF, which adds to it. Patchen Pub is dope, too btw.

I give Shams 5*. Special place.

Back when you couldn't buy beer in Lexington on Sundays, my boys and I spent many a Sunday evening at Lynaugh's. I miss a Big Guy Ribeye with garlic butter fo sho.

With that said, I watched the 2010 West Virginia game at Lynaugh's so f*** that place.

Shamrock’s was the first place I ever drank in public underage. I was at LWC doing basketball but my best buddy and his frat brothers all went there during freshman year.

They either had an “in” at the time or it was known they’d hook you up without checking ID to closely. Can’t remember.

He only plays right at 28 minutes a game due to a minute restriction, which is about 8-10 less than what is normal for a starter. If he stays healthy he should put up alien type numbers next year. He is definitely something to watch out there. He looks like one of those blow up things that businesses put out front to draw attention to them selves.

They are better than advertised for sure. There is however no Shaq to humble them in a very violent and possibly season ending incident. Different game now I know. I just would have loved to see wembly getting posted by Shaq. I mean the diesel completely power drived David Robinson into rethinking his life once.

I was always confused about the spelling of Lynagh's, given that the owner's name was John Lynaugh with a u. Anybody know why it was spelled that way (without the u)?

You guru's are getting too caught up in the "7 footer" tag as if Cal brought in Dream and Ewing, when, instead, he brought in what is essentially two very tall wings. They may as well be 6'5 with their games, which never consisted of playing D in the paint until now. There were 7' "centers" out there....Bradshaw and Z weren't them.

Re: Wemby.

You ever play a pickup basketball game on an 8.5' basket against a really good group of 7th graders who are all between 4'8 and 5'5? You may be slower, more out of shape, and even not as skilled, but you're still going to be a force.

That's kind of what I figure it's like to be Wemby in the NBA.
