I was beyond adamant the 7 footers wouldn't really affect how we play, or our offense in any dramatic way: Aka, slow down ball, quit shooting 3s, clog the lanes, etc. Our scoring output & offense has been relatively unchanged - definitely hasn't been a complete philosophy change on that end as so many were scared of.
ABSOLUTELY Thought the bigs would help our already-dismal defense, how could it not? Unhappy to admit that was incredibly wrong. It hasn't helped, and it's somehow made the defense/rebounding worse? Never could have dreamed we'd be losing games in Feb while scoring 85-95 points. I mean...
(The SC game clearly an outlier in that regard)
Of course, it also affected the rotation/subs, but that's nothing new. Just hurts extra this year obviously, b/c for once, we're flush with guards/shooters/scorers. But It's really incredible how terrible our bigs are defensively.
Hard to be a serious team in March with NO rim protection or legit big but a Tre/Burks 5* rotation sounds pretty good right about now. If you're gonna be terrible defensively no matter what, which is obviously the case, marcus just go Loyola Marymount.
For all this team's flaws, even if we're a marginal-to-below average (bad) defensive team, that's good enough with our firepower to be elite in 2024 and be as much of a contender as just about anyone outside Purdue/Uconn? Instead, we're historically bad. Coupled with the typical Cal Bullshit, and... fml
