Kinda surprising Anth is such a big Kelce fan. Thought you hated Ohio Guy - wearing his Air Maxes, calling people “jabroni” and other nonsense.

You’re a weird guy.
I just want to see Taylor happy, chad. He just seems like a big goober. I can't hate on that, I mean, I love krazy after all.

It's always been unfair. I throw the RED flag on this bullshit.

I see what you did there…
However, i do think our ONCE gyeroguy TH is a chiefs fan. Congrats, buddy.
I am more hesitant to congratulate KY NFL fan because 99.9999% didn’t grow up around that team, they picked them around 12-16. It’s not die hard like UK.

I love the Packers but seeing them win 2 SBs is not even a trillionth of what it’s like watching UK win 3.

-SLC is definitely nice, Mormons are still creepy but clean and organized. Park City is cool and fun, besides those board haters at Deer Valley it’s a great place for riding.

How pretentious do those skiers have to be to think “I don’t ski with those on one plank peasants, as only a true gentleman traverses a mountain on two planks…”? 🙄I mean, grow up. Do they not allowed handicap skiers that have to use 3 planks?

I’d rank golf and skiing as the two most pretentious sports I enjoy participating in, but the people…

Let’s get to the tourney, masters and hot weather, por favor.

*Great little getaway last week:

Typing fast so pay no never mind to spelling and grammar.

*A friend of mine hooked up a condo in Miramar Lakes. It's a gated community with every amenity you can think of. They don't allow Vrbo or rentals so you have to know a resident...and she knows the Kentucky Hammer's wife!

He owns a huge house on the water overlooking the clubhouse. He also owns two condo's. We stayed in a condo, which was very nice. Total cost was $800 (cleaning fee), split between three of us. Not bad. At that price point, we are already looking to head back before summer.

*One of our crew had to leave early Thursday due to a family emergency leaving two of us to our own devices. We spent most of our time outside the community exploring the surrounding area.

*One day we drove to Sanibel. Lot's of wreckage, but not close to FMB. From there, we went to Captiva and spent the afternoon on the beach and having drinks at the Mucky Duck.

We left and drove down the coast through Fort Myers Beach, which looks like an A-bomb went off.
Really sad seeing how many homes and businesses are beyond repair. A lot of people living out of campers and waiting on a demolition/construction crew.

*Naples looks to be on good footing again after Ian. 5th Ave was lively and appeared that all businesses are up and running.

*We were schedule to leave Saturday evening, but while taking in some Naples beach sun, she gets a text asking if we want to go out on a mutual friend's boat. YUP. Pushed flight to Sunday and spent the day on the water and boozing at Keewaydin Island. More than worth the extra cost in flight.

Dude lives in our hood and does very well for himself. He owns a home in Royal Harbor complete with a 32' twin 300hp Boston Whaler on a lift. /Career goals.

Food:
Boathouse - Naples (B+)
Captain and Krewe - Naples (A-)
Izzy's Fish and Oyster - Downtown Fort Myers (A+)
La Fontella - Bonita Springs (B)
Snook Inn - Naples (A+ - Atmosphere adds a level)
Bayside Seafood Bar and Grille - Naples (B+)

UK sucks.

Snowboarding >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> skiing. Skiing was cool, you know, back in the "olden days..."

I like Burrow but at this point you have to worry about him possibly being made of glass. When healthy though he is as good as anyone.
Can say the same for McCaffrey who was always injured in Carolina and once he got behind a competent Oline mysteriously become healthy again.

Rec for all the GYERO Dads - I'm assuming all of your kids have taken swimming lessons. If so, take a vacation to coastal Carolina, and take your kids to one of the surfing schools there. Surfing is a blast, and it absolutely teaches you ocean swimming/survival skills. And, like most things; kids pick up stuff like that pretty easily. If you can surf, everything else (skiing for instance, will seem like a cake walk, after that)

Coco Beach has a pretty good school at the Pier. My youngest took a lesson right after Christmas and it was like $60 for an hour of training with a wet suit and use of the board for the day. And he did pretty well which kinda surprised me.

- Did a long weekend in Scottsdale for the Waste Management and it was an absolute circus. Just a complete sensory overload of absurdity.

- The WM offers “Come Any Day” tix. With the rain on Thursday and the Super Bowl/everyone flying back on Sunday, it seemed like EVERYONE showed for Friday/Saturday. Add in people just pushing past security to get in without tix, laughable amounts of alcohol, mud, every obnoxious guy in his late 20’s west of the Mississippi and social media attention seeking… it all blew up.

- 16 gets the attention but 17 is amazing.

- Did a day trip to Sedona. Most of the mountains were still snow covered and very few people were there. Just a cool experience.

Bummed the Niners lost, mainly for my youngest who is a diehard. Kid and his friends were devastated when I picked them up from their watch party.

But big wins for Usher and Blake Lively. Damn she looked good.

-Busy weekend left me scrambling getting ready this morning and had the clothes in the dryer. First time I’ve put on warm clothes out of the dryer in the morning since college/high school. Kind of nostalgic, but those damn zippers be hot AF!

- The delay of work that snow/rain caused is starting to work itself out. The way things were I’d be half way thru about 16 projects at this point, but as is not one as even started.

With the wife’s surgery on Friday I’d expect chaos that first week I’d previously taken off.

- Finally found a plumber that I can schedule that will do my distillery work. Insulted 2 people I legit know with the same comment after they decided my plumbing work wasn’t really the plumbing they do.

“So you’re kinda not a real plumber?”

- I get it that we lose everyone every year anyway argument for UK basketball but I legit expect Reed, Burks and Ugo to be back next year. I know better, but I still want to be a college again and I’ll hold out hope.

I will say this, hearing on KSR that our biggest boosters have been alienated from the basketball program and that’s wild!

That legit is the durable offense more so than 16-7 and knocked out of the Top 25.

- The more I hear about Bush Hamden the more I like it. #footballschool

Keewaydin is always a great time. I haven't been back to Snook since they completely rebuilt it after Ian, but it was always really good with a big salad bar (on of the few I would trust).

The twin engine jet crash was horrific, to say the least. The pilot saved a LOT of lives, and was extremely calm on the radio with the tower when he knew he wouldn't make the runway. It's a miracle how anyone walked away from that.

Kids pick that stuff up super quick.

Skiing is making a strong comeback with the youngsters. Tons of places don't allow boards. Back in the day most places didn't allow them, which is pretty silly.
You sure this is true? Last I heard there were only 3 major resorts that still didn’t allow them Deer Valley, Alta and somewhere else, can’t remember.

Can’t imagine it’s good money wise.

- @HymanKaplan I grew up skiing and switched to boarding but do both. Love them both for different reasons but I find riding more fun overall.

I ride better than ski now but can switch same day and enjoy both.

The rivalry is one-sided, it’s only skiers that care and it’s ridiculous.
Snowboarders are like meh whatever dude, kinda just want a dopamine rush by sliding down this mountain on a wooden plank… maybe that’s just me though?

-Would’ve never left the Keys if you could surf there. That being said, I’m Gulf side where you still can’t surf. That’s literally the only thing I prefer about the Atlantic side more.

- @ukalum01 Can’t wait to visit my buddy that just moved out there. Glad you took the day to go to Sedona because it’s beautiful. Been probably 15 years since I visited my dad out there for a month.

Going to Timberline this week. Have never been and my daughter wants to learn to snowboard. I am probably a average blue/green skier, but I am tempted to get a lesson with her as well. Just don't know how to stop that damn thing without using a tree.
Suggestions?

Folks- I gotta say, there isn’t a bigger sign of how far this thread has matured than someone dropping in and asking how to stop on a snowboard short of hitting a tree and not immediately getting a bunch of “run into a tree and DIAF” replies.

From youngbloods to old heads- the GYERO story.

Yup. Drove by the wreckage coming back from Naples Saturday night.

It's amazing the amount of wealth in that area.

The person I was with on the boat flew private that day and said his phone was blowing up (no pun intended) making sure he made it safely.

Just go into a turn and lean toward the high side of the hill, whether toe side or heel side, lean “up” the mountain.

You can keep turning until you slow down or start going uphill and stop or start turning back the other direction.

Ideally, you get to where just turning back and forth slows you down until you’re ready to just sit/lean back on the board to stop.

Lessons are a FANTASTIC idea. Honestly everyone should get them, especially if you’re going with experienced friends.

No one wants to waste a ski pass trying to show you or anyone how to ski/ride for 4-6 hours. I’ve been on both sides.

With literally everyone honing in on the lack of adjustments and coaches comments and radio personalities all over lack of adjustments I think Cal gets after it this week to prove em wrong.

We’ll pay for it somewhere else and he’ll slack off being the fat lazy slob that he is, but this week he’ll be motivated.

Let’s be honest. This team would’ve have been better off with the original roster sans Bradshaw, Ugo & Z when Cal was forced to ride with:

Wagner, Reeves, Edwards, Thiero, Mitchell, Dillingham and Shep.

Defensively they still would’ve been subpar but not as bad the current state of affairs and I guarantee they’d be a better rebounding team relying more on quickness than size .

But oh no, the stubborn dumbass gets not only 1 but 3 seven footers to mess around with.

Now the rythym & everything else for that matter is like a pile of shit forced into a blender splattering all over the place. It ain’t cake batter that will bake either. There is no cake and the oven won’t start. Here’s your runny shit sandwich on wonder bread and yes, you’ve stolen my joy.

I was beyond adamant the 7 footers wouldn't really affect how we play, or our offense in any dramatic way: Aka, slow down ball, quit shooting 3s, clog the lanes, etc. Our scoring output & offense has been relatively unchanged - definitely hasn't been a complete philosophy change on that end as so many were scared of.

ABSOLUTELY Thought the bigs would help our already-dismal defense, how could it not? Unhappy to admit that was incredibly wrong. It hasn't helped, and it's somehow made the defense/rebounding worse? Never could have dreamed we'd be losing games in Feb while scoring 85-95 points. I mean...

(The SC game clearly an outlier in that regard)

Of course, it also affected the rotation/subs, but that's nothing new. Just hurts extra this year obviously, b/c for once, we're flush with guards/shooters/scorers. But It's really incredible how terrible our bigs are defensively.

Hard to be a serious team in March with NO rim protection or legit big but a Tre/Burks 5* rotation sounds pretty good right about now. If you're gonna be terrible defensively no matter what, which is obviously the case, marcus just go Loyola Marymount.

For all this team's flaws, even if we're a marginal-to-below average (bad) defensive team, that's good enough with our firepower to be elite in 2024 and be as much of a contender as just about anyone outside Purdue/Uconn? Instead, we're historically bad. Coupled with the typical Cal Bullshit, and... fml

I guess I could be wrong, but it's my belief that at least Bradshaw and Ugo are capable of playing good defense. They certainly have the physical tools. Similarly, Oscar was horrible defensively for us, but he has a pretty respectable defensive rating in the G League this year.

I'm beginning to think it's not the players' fault. There must be some other common denominator, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

The Wrightsville Beach area/NC gets some surprisingly good waves, especially in the Spring. But yeah, the Gulf is useless, except for SUP boards.
