I just can’t get it right with Vermouth so I’ve given up on homemade Manhattans. Wife’s go-to is gin martinis and she just rinses.

Knob Creek/Woodford/whatever 4 parts, 1 part Martini and Rossi SWEET vermouth (the dark one), couple dashes bitters, and a legit maraschino cherry - not the bright red shit - and a teaspoon of the cherry juice.

Or just drink bourbon by itself but I’m seriously basic as it gets.

-My dude from Lindsey Wilson just got picked up as QB by the Toronto Argos so that’s cool as hell. He played in arena league last year for Vegas. Happy as a clam for him as that’s a huge step up. Cameron Dukes, check him out. Won a natty at LWC.

Selection Sunday Randoms

* Back home after a 3ni trip to Big Sur. Alila Ventana Big Sur —> worship. Booked on Chase points (in lieu of $2k/ni), all-inclusive resort overlooking the ocean. Despite some rain, that area is absolutely stunning. Super chill getaway after a work trip to DC earlier in the week. 7 days, 4 flights.

* Not letting that fat wop ruin one of my favorite days of the year. A10 Championship should be a pretty good start to the day. Think Alabama, Houston and Purdue cruise.

* Hard not to admire what Rodney Terry did at Texas. Boat raced Kansas twice in a week and took home the BigXII title.

* Club level tickets for 1st/2nd round in Denver. Have a funny feeling UK will land here. Regardless, good opportunity to take a few clients out for a good time on the firm’s dime.

* Down 10lbs in February. Always have eaten pretty healthy (thanks to my wife). But prioritizing more weight and cardio training, sleeping more, and working a bit less. And as tough as it’s been, have generally laid off the booze since Xmas. Hovered around 195 in my HS playing days…goal is to get back to 210 by end of summer.

* Planning a trip to Vienna during Thanksgiving week. Expect to hit the Christmas markets. DM me with recommendations.

- Coffee Hour is just the best.

- I let Cal/UK ruin my basketball weekend. Avoided all weekend. I'm just a bitch in that regard. Had a great Saturday though. Kids with the grandparents. WS at a shower. No plans at all. Met a buddy at Drakes. Took a 2 hour nap. Workout and sauna. Got a little tipsy watching Ocean's 13.

- saved myself a wasted night in an expensive Nashville hotel and a pissed off 3 hour early Saturday drive home.

- since the 2nd kid my ability to nap is gone. I can get about 20 in and after that I'm rolling around. Made the one yesterday extry nice.

- Manhattan has to be the easiest cocktail. I'm not sure how you can struggle to make a good one. 4/1.

-yeah...I haven't watched any basketball since the under 4 timeout Friday night. Sucks as I really dig conference championship weekend...anywho hopefully the cats get a first round win so I can enjoy Thursday and Friday at least.

^hoping for a Friday late game. Pitiful.

-working on a nice Moroccan lamb stew for dinner.

It's ridiculous that officials are horrible and biased but when they actually have a chance to screw over a team that deserves it like Bama they can't be bothered. If I have to watch easily swayed, biased, incompetent officiating, the trade off should be Alabama with a +30 foul differential every game.

2018 was the last time we played on selection Sunday.

F*** you, John, you fat loser.
It seems so long ago, but hard to believe we had won 4 in a row going into that 2019 tournament.

We got absolutely f*ckin cheated in that 2019 SF game against Tennessee. Grant Williams is still a floppy c*nt.

But also inexcusable to blow a 7pt lead at the under-4 timeout. Let them score EIGHTEEN points in 2:58...

Last years meltdown was inexcusable.

This year we were outmatched by A&M and Bama IMO but should have had a shot. Losing to Vandy was pathetic, and hearing that he planned to just be us and not specifically plan for the actual game sounds like he expected us to figure out how to be better.

His willingness to lose is saddening to me, but he still has it when he wants it and that’s what I’m hoping for.

Pretty cool we're paying $9M+ for a lifetime to a guy who "has it when he wants it".

Cal is worn down and no longer built for this. That's fine, but he needs to realize it and hang it up before what's left of his goodwill is eradicated. Be the figurehead for next year's super class, let someone on the staff who embraces modern basketball actually coach the Xs and Os, and ride off into the sunset.

Lord if Brandon Miller (who should be the #1 pick) was at UK, we all know it would be all over PTI and ever podcast and sports center show ever.

And there would be a consensus here on why he should face no repercussions if the exact situation happened here.

“Wrong place/wrong time. Ha ha that rascal swaggy Cal.”

Let’s be real. We are all hypocrites in our own particular ways.

Selection committee fvckery prediction - Memphis plays Arkansas in the 1st round as an 8/9 or 7/10 game.

Duke will be a 4 with Houston or Purdue. If UK is a 5(extremely doubtful) that is where we will be.

I'm sure there will be other story lines out there but Mem/Arky is the one that jumps out to me.

I hope we draw Iona. Either our chubby coach bucks up and actually puts some effort into winning, or he gets an entire off-season of hearing about losing to his nemesis. I'm good with either outcome in that scenario.
I don’t know if BBN could handle it if Pitino put us out of the tournament with Iona.

Felton Spencer died??

That’s awesome. I have so many hysterical puns and bad jokes and mistaken names for the RIP thread. This is gonna be so much fun.

Had one of the most amazing experiences of my life last night to celebrate my buddy's 50th. If this doesn't interest you, quit reading here. If you are a foodie, then the next few paragraphs are literal food porn.

Snackdown:

Le Cercle de L'Union French Club - San Francisco
60 Seat Dining Table

Hors d'oeurves
Crab & Endive, Gougeres, Caviar & Ahi Crudo
NV Roederer Estate Brut - Anderson Valley

1st Course
Lobster Salad, Avocado Mousse, Watermelon Radish & Lemon Vinaigrette
2019 Domaine Thierry Pillot Saint-Aubin "Le Ban"
2019 Pierre-Yves-Colin-Morey Saint-Aubin " Hommage Marguerite" en Jeroboam

2nd Course
Linguine, Wild Mushrooms & Truffle Jus
2013 Williams-Selyem Pinot Noir "Morning Dew Vineyard"
2019 Domaine Dutraive Fleurie Clos en Jeroboam
2006 Copain Pino Noire "Kiser en Bas" Anderson Valley en Jeroboam

3rd Course
Filet of Bison, Seared Foie Gras & Black Truffle Sauce
2011 Domaine Pichat Cote-Rotie "Champon's"
2008 Vincent Arroyo J.J.'s Blend Red Table Wine 5L
2007 Copain Syrah "Baker Ranch" Anderson Valley en Jeroboam

4th Course
Les Fromage's - French Cheeses selected by the Chef

5th Course
Carrot Cake
Various shared Dessert Wines/Port from Guests

Hard to even put into words. More of an experience than a meal. Lasted several hours. The wine kept flowing. I could've drank the Williams Selyem Pinot by the gallon.

The whole French food experience, when done correctly, is really just over the top.

A+.
