Echo Chad -- some of you are just miserable.

We win that game last night by 6-8 in some previous seasons. I'm very optimistic about the season, and you can already see what TyTy is going to be -- which is the go-to guy.

I am, however, concerned about our defense. Oscar & Collins are horrid....and Grady, Washington, Allen, Brooks, etc aren't much either. Mintz is solid. Wheeler is probably the best defender on the team at 5'8 or whatever.\\

BUT, after watching year after year of good-to-really good defense, and horrid offense -- I'm okay with it...for now.

Oh, and the fact we have like 4 guys out, and Brooks putting on a shoulder brace every time he goes to the bench. Chase texted last night asking when was the last time we had a healthy roster, even for the opening game....10 years ago?

CJ - likely out for season
Toppin - who knows
Ware - who knows
Mintz - illness
Brooks - putting on a brace every exit

...injuries happen, that's just part of it - but jfc. It's never ending. At what point do we re-evaluate what we're doing w/ regards to training, etc?

We're way too athletic to suck this badly on defense all year. They try like hell it looks like. I just don't think a lot of them know what they're doing yet. But at least that part is fixable.

The main thing I like is that Wheeler and Washington don't stand around and listen to Cal micromanage them at the top of is lungs. . In fact, I'm not sure they listen to him at ALL. Which, by itself, is an improvement over last year.

Wheeler relentlessly pushes the pace, that’s the main difference I’m seeing right now. And having a former NBA guard in chin on the coaching staff has me feeling very optimistic about Washington. We haven’t had a former NBA guard since Strickland, and that shit matters I don’t care what anyone says.

Cal has turned into "end of his career Bobby Bowden"

Figure head that walks around and runs his mouth, game has passed him by, and he's the only one that doesn't know it. Meanwhile, the assistant coaches run it.

He's an old school Las Vegas "greeter".

The fact that that has evidently not happened is very concerning to me. I don't know what they are doing for these kids in terms of strength & conditioning, what the kids are following up with on their own in the offseason, etc....but if you have a fair number of injuries in a program which are fairly attributable to repetitive use, and not contact, something is deeply amiss in the programming.

There's a handful of "celebrity" athlete trainers who post absurd, incredibly dangerous exercises for "rehab." Not a single human being on planet earth needs to do barbell front squats standing with one leg on a bosu ball and the other balancing on a PVC pipe, or bands pulling from the back, or accommodating resistance in planes of motion that aren't useful in any way to the sport (or simple human existence). Strength training really isn't that complicated, but people love to believe it is and make it so. I have to think part of our injury bug is related to stupid training (or poor nutrition, or questionable "supplementation," etc.).

He completely fired his entire coaching staff, personally recruited our first #1 recruit in 8 years, and is poised to be one of the main faces of college basketball for the foreseeable future. TF?

Exactly. He got some assistants in that could mitigate the mess he's become. Recruiting has never been a real issue with him. He's fine, as long as he has great assistant coaches. And a lot of these great commits, didn't commit, until the new staff came in.

I mean, none of this is a big scoop. What I've said has been the general sentiment around here for years.

GYERO sports takes have been awful and terrible for about 5 years now (Did you know Stoops sucks without Marrow? Sucks!)
Bobby Bowden his last 10 years had barely a .500 record and was rarely in the top 25. Cal has completely revamped the entire program in the last 4 months. That’s not “late stage” anything.

-ox was the best "player" in the who... Townsend was the best writer/composer.

-daltrey could kick all the Beatles and stones asses...at the same time. He was a "problem" as the kids say.

-youre confused, kook. The Beatles were a studio band. That's not a detraction of their talent.. Who and stones (in that order) were superior live acts.

^all of this shit is subjective...music nerds(Beatles honks) be damned.

-the kinks are fantastic.

-there are scads of musical genius types throughout the history of rock...some had commercial success, some did not.

It's true. LOL

(Basketball was always my least favorite sport. Still is, so you're right I really don't have meaningful insights)

That said, At some point over the last 18 to 24 months, over half of you selective memory smooth-brained water heads have said some version of what I posted earlier.

I need to plagiarize better takes.

Love the Kinks. Always thought if you took Lennon/McCartney, you would almost have a Ray Davies, as far as songwriting goes. Again, subjective and imo and all those things.

-while not a "complete" overhaul...Cal has made the changes that smart fan(read OG bitch bus crew) were calling for...I give him credit for that. Cautiously optimistic. Like this team a *bunch*.

-enjoyed listening to Tom and Mike last night. Leach is fantastic...lucky to have him.

Had tickets to see the Kinks at the Palace in Louisville circa '82

Got all the way up there and the show was canceled because of a Teamsters strike.

Fvck unions.

I always heard a rumor that McCartney used to bring Dave Davies in to re-record/overdub certain tracks to tighten stuff up. Probably nothing to it.

Calipari actively keeps his guys away from the regular athletic medical/training staff and has his own people.

I dunno man maybe at some point that’s an issue? I’m just a big dummy on the internet though.

Leach is excellent. Doesn't have a great radio voice, but he's professional as hell.

Still, sometimes I pine for the days of Hacker tripping over himself.

^all of this shit is subjective...
I generally loathe discussion of who the "best" musicians are. Especially if someone tries to come up with a objective measure (e.g. record sales, #1 hits, or worst of all -> speed/precision/technical chops) Barf emoji. I hope all the bands win.

Beatles are great. I once saw a very talented band, probably Belmont kids, play Rubber Soul note-for-note and it was mesmerizing. Of all the great bands, the Beatles definitely have the most songs I hate, tho.

Stones are definitely the best if your metric is most Scorsese trailers.

Who are the best? Led Zeppelin. No the Who are the best. I just said, Led Zeppelin. - Laura Ingraham, probably.

I'm just enjoying the ride with this basketball team. Fun to watch. End of 2019-20 and all of 2020-21 sucked so bad it removed any stress.

All my catfan stress is focused squarely on the football cats. Beat the linebeards, keep the staff intact, finish the recruiting class strong. Please.

creekman - there is probably an INVERSE relationship between record sales/mass radio play and complexity/genius/actual musical talent.
