That’s awesome. Revolutionary War land grant I presume? My paternal grandmother’s family had about 200 acres from one of those they sold in the 80s. Makes me sad it’s gone.
They got a revolutionary land grant in Stamping Ground, which I found the deed for and it bordered Elijah Craig's property. They sold that though, and bought land in Woodford Co that was near the captain they fought under in the war.

My maternal grandmother's family came here in the mid-1600s to escape persecution during the English Civil War. They were actually nobles and decendants of royalty, which I thought was cool too. Her maiden name is Terrill and there is actually a society that has mapped out that entire family tree going back to something like 600 AD. I'm a direct descendant of William the Conqurer. He was 38th great grandfather. If memory serves correct, there are something like 120 million 38th grrat-grandparents in our family trees so it's nothing special.

Wales is the Bell County of the United Kingdom.

Thank God my Welsh ancestors came here, and settled in Columbus, OH

Couple of standouts from the Terrill family history

This guy killed a king, William Tirel

This guy allegedly killed a couple of princes at the request of a kings brother to alter the line of descent, Shakespeare wrote about him, James Tyrel

-My sons are up at UK, with their mom, on their campus visit. Keep getting texts how excited they are. If they commit I’ll let GYERO know first but keep it here.

-Fanatics bought the NBA, NFL and MLB rights to produce sports cards starting in 2025. There won’t be Topps baseball cards anymore. Their CEO wants to cut out distributors and card shops, The plan it to go direct to consumer. It’s been a hell of a run.

-Looking forward to the Rocky IV Director’s
Cut.

- Have four free Loge Level tickets for 11-20 if anybody wants to go. Only requirement is I need you to apologize to the older geez next to us. I went overboard. He’s owed an apology. But F UT!

  • Regalbuto Sicily, Basilicata, Friuli, Napoli . My mom’s side had some Northern Italy CityState regal bloodline that was abruptly terminated during WWI.
  • Having the Pasta Carb-dinner for the HS XCountry team tonight. Homemade sauce and meatballs (starting in cooking soon). State finals down the shore tomorrow. My kid shaved 30 seconds off the last run and is quietly adding distance running to his track arsenal.
  • After kids split, I’m popping some fall szn high proof rye bottles. Looking forward. Hope I don’t puke. 🙄
  • I knew we were going to lose to MSU, but feared the UT loss and its impact on recruiting momentum. We must destroy UofL and keep Goodwin in the fold.
  • Glad you all enjoyed NYC. Good for you. I see underbelly every day and am completely jaded. Can’t beat the restaurants and healthcare… everything else stinks or is way overhyped. TS.
  • 11 college applications in. Now we wait.
  • Got a nice surprise bonus from company…that’ll help the cause.
  • AC supply duct being installed into bar next week deeming the project complete…added some dope B/W imagery to the walls along with some college ink drawings on Mylar. Hodgepodge action.
  • Just for a quick listen… pop Delvon Lamar Organ Trio in the Spotify mix. YWIA.

We immigrated to this country in 1986 and my brother isn’t going to have kids. We are literally the only people in the entire country with our last name and I’m the only person in the US with my full name. My children are the 1st generation of my family in America so our entire legacy and family tradition and reputation is completely dependent upon me, which my parents constantly reminded me of. 😀

-Dad's Mom side had done some pretty cool work on ancestry. Pictures of graves, bios, way back into the 1700s. Other than that everything pretty much starts at Ellis Island. Neat to see my Great Grandfathers signature. Spelled out last name wrong, we think.

-Test run of meatballs this weekend to get my measurements right for bulk. Going to do 5#. Believe I'm going to do 2lbs veal and 3lbs beef. Seems like a better ratio.

-Tell ya what, that feeling after 40 minutes in the sauna then a quick shower. Glorious.

-It wasn't all doom and gloom. WE did a couple nice commitments over the weekend in both sports.

-Still think there's a decent chance(we'll say 38%) Sharpe plays this season. JMO. Take it or leave it.

Friday Shorts:

-NYC was awesome, great to be back after a 2 year hiatus, after going 2-3x a year for nearly a decade. I mean, I just worship the place.

-The amount of 'for lease' storefronts and closed businesses was pretty staggering overall...I mean, I saw 2 separate shuttered Starbucks in prime areas that were 'For Lease' -- didn't even know such a thing was possible.

-The Covid-fear spectrum was pretty wide. I'd say 25% were complete psychos about it, 25% couldn't have cared less, and 50% were in the middle & at the minimum abiding "for show". I'm 100% pro-vax, but firmly against mandates (of any kind)...that being said, not having to mask indoors due to said mandates was pretty nice. Flash your card like an ID, and you were good to go.

-Weather was just ridiculous. 60-70 & Sunny basically all 4 days. Actually wished it to have been a little cooler, but hard to complain.

-Spent Saturday watching Breeder's Cup at Mercury Bar. Got washed all day, then hit the All Turf P4, followed by $300 win on Knicks Go for a nice +$1000 over the last 2 races. Straight from there to the UT game at Demsey's...ugh.

-Chicago for Theater Night, preceded by Aria Wine Bar in Hell's Kitchen. Both were great.

-Wolfgang's was the dinner highlight, Monday with WWH & AP.com. Never made the effort to get into Luger, but aside from the History of the place, it's impossible to imagine it being any better. Followed that up w/ some sick Rooftop Bar overlooking the Empire St Building. '230 5th rooftop' or something...great spot.

-Spent Monday down in Tribeca/Soho/Village alternating shopping, cafes, and bars...ended up buying a pair of Jeans from Rupp Arena DJ Warren Peace's brother. #SmallWorld

-I could live off of NYC Bodega/Deli food only, and be perfectly happy. Those suckers are every 50 feet, and pretty much all of them bang, especially for a quick breakfast. My usual one has a Chopped Cheese/BaconEggCheese on roll combo sandwich that's just absolutely ridiculous.

-Tuesday was spent uptown, Central Park, Brunch at Sarabeths...which is always a winner.

-Nothing beats The Garden. Never met a sports fan who's first trip in there didn't leave them speechless. It's really impossible to describe. I know he hates the neutrals overall, but happy SAE 'gets' it now, at least w/ regard to making UK games there a priority, while also having an easy excuse to visit the city along with it. Simply a no-brainer if you can swing it. JMO

^ Fun hanging out w/ SAE, Bellydancer, Tommy, Legal, Harris, Bayens, and others in different capacities over the 4.5 days we were there.

-Far from perfect, but hard to understate how much better the LGA upgrades make the return home. I mean, at least you don't feel like you're legit in some kind of prison.

-The Game? I was livid during, as I always am, but I guess I just don't share all the uber-negative sentiment. I think we're going to be really good. You can appreciate our fight to stay in a game where we just didn't have it, without thinking that's the "new bar" for success at Kentucky, as some of you are suggesting acknowledging that means.

Our star played horribly (in his first game), we didn't shoot it, their stars had A++ games, and we still had a chance to win. If you're making season conclusions after losing to a Top 5 team on Nov 9th, I don't know what to tell you.

...TyTy will be great, I have little-to-no doubt about that. Again, jumping the gun on him is pretty silly - feel free to take a look at some of your Favorite's Champions Classic debuts below.

-Go Cats

I don't even understand the logic behind him not playing this year tbh. He doesn't need the extra year of eligibility. He's enrolled. He's practicing.

Whatever.
For a guy like Hami, that was clearly behind and ranked 11th in his class(iirc), sure. Don't disrupt the flow. Sharpe isn't Hami, we're talking the #1 recruit elite prospect. I don't know how or why you keep him out. If he pays in December you don't think he can mesh by March? Meh.

My first time in MSG and agree. Reminded me of walking into Rupp for the first time as a little tot. Just an iconic venue.

My redass has diminished and I'm excited to see the Cats play again tonight.

Decent little line-up this evening. 5pm (MT) Cats vs. Robert Morris, 7pm USMNT v Mexico, and capped off with a late night 9:30pm tip between Nova and UCLA.

Forgot to mention the palpable buzz & happenings around the city Sunday for the NYC Marathon. Been there a few times for that, and it's admittedly really cool.

The men's champion, Korir, had the weirdest/ugliest gait you could ever imagine, which makes him all the more impressive. Dude looks like he was crawling, but actually flying -- kinda weird for a non-running ball to process.

…wait, we have a clear cut #1 elite nba draft and he’s not playing? We haven’t had a legit dude in a while.

Matt kind of ranted about this yesterday, to the caller who had “Cal fatigue”, which I have a severe case of. Yes, we had Booker, SGA, Murray, Randle, etc etc…but what did they win us? A lot of SEC games? I don’t even remember, and the one I do remember is the one I’ll never forget unfortunately.

Point is, we’ve had a lot of “fine” players that gave turned into good NBA guys. We haven’t had many guys that were NBA ready and legit soon as they stepped on campus. We don’t need just one of those guys, we need at least a couple.

USA v MEX tonight legooooooooooooooo

It’s style of play - 100 percent. 2017 was an amazing and great year even though it ended shitty. Very little issue with that season. We averaged like 100 points in the OOC. Just go back to that shit Cal you dipshit. At the end of the day I’m watching for entertainment. That’s why I actually feel pretty good about this year - wheeler was legit pushing it all game. Loved that.

Edit: also with Sharpe, just don’t see it with a freshman missing 6 months of practice jumping in mid season. As a matter of fact in 2011 Kylie Irving had that toe injury and they tried to work him in at end of season and it meshed horribly, and he practiced all offseason. Just don’t think it ever works out great, especially if we start gelling by January.

Sharpe won't have a summer to acclimate and if he enrolls early, plays and looks just ok (not great) then the shiny is worn off. How many "sophomores" are the #1 pick on the NBA draft board?

The only logical reason for him to early enroll and play when he can't enter the draft is so the University of Kentucky can win games. That's not why we do this...

Against my better judgment, I'm remaining optimistic that this will be a *very good* offensive team. We did not look good running the DDM against Duke. I think that was due, in large part, to Duke's ability to switch across the perimeter.

But beyond that, our spacing and movements were awful. Toss in Cal apparently telling TyTy to drive 1 vs. 3 all night (sigh), the offense just didn't flow.

Definitely expect our offense to improve between now and the OSU game in December. And if it wouldn't be too much bother, it would be awfully swell if Cal threw in a few set plays to get Grady/Fredrick open looks. I guess we're too good for a simple elevator screen that Nate Oats, Bruce Pearl, and Rick Barnes absolutely slay.

That said, I don't think this will be a *great* defensive team. I love Wheeler's disruptiveness, but Keels just outsized him. There will be more where that came from. Also, Cal has always been a coach that gambles on the perimeter and relies on rim protection. Problem is we have zero rim protection unless Collin makes a huge (and I mean huge) leap.
