Both Killa and Chad's posts here have an element of truth. Cal has pushed "player's first" so hard it certainly seems like kids come here feeling like they owe the school, fanbase, coaches, etc. nothing and Lexington is just a brief way station on their path to professional basketball. But to Cal's credit, he's able to teach these guys to play hard and play for each other (in most cases) in their brief time in town. Simply because Cal gets these guys to buy into the team concept doesn't mean they buy in to that concept for more than a year or two. That's the difference in Cal and Saban I think Killa is trying to illustrate. Bama players buy in for the PROGRAM, not just the current team. Part of that is the difference in college basketball vs college football, sure, but in most cases Cal only asks for loyalty from these guys for about 10 months. We're starting to see that's not sustainable.
Bama players have no choice in the matter:
1. You can’t go to the NFL for three years.
2. Biology
Different sports. Different planets. Stupid conversation.
